The armor is stiffer than I expected, and Taiwan mentioned something about Photoshopping the image? 

((Not really sure what a rpg character is supposed to look like, but I guess it has to do with warriors? I tried to make her look cool and the armor as true to her style as I could [I watched Mulan while making this so you could definitely see some influences]. I loved playing around with the idea of Vietnam with a long braid, though! I think her preferred weapon would definitely be a spear or some sort of knife.))

…never again. Taiwan still has a day or so before her flight back so she forced me into some of her clothes, which are a biiit too snug for comfort.

You guys have seen me in lots of áo dài already, so I’ll wear this instead:

It’s an áo tứ thân, or a four-part dress often associated with the north. It’s kind of outdated and not worn often for daily use anymore, so thank you for sending the ask; I haven’t worn it in a while.

((It was difficult to find a comprehensive and visual reference for it since it’s an older piece and many articles on Vietnamese clothing focus mainly on the áo dài, so I cross-referenced some images I could find and an image I had of my grandmother wearing it.))

Ah, thank you! ((September 2 is long gone in Vietnam, and it's started late on this blog because my timezone is ~15 hours behind Vietnam's. It depends. Some years I spend it celebrating with my people, other times it’s spent 

Recently Taiwan has taken to surprising me with parties and inviting as many people as she can, but this year it’s just us having a movie night.

This is more for the mod, but do you have any headcanons for Nyo!Vietnam??? Name, personality, any ideas???

((I’ve never considered it too much, but this ask had me thinking, so I’ll list some headcanons I’ve developed:

I think the name could be Hùng (literally means ‘hero’)

A bit more reserved than Lien

Sometimes serious, sometimes broods 

Soft spot for stray dogs and cats

Very particular about his tea or coffee

Very good public speaking skills but less so one on one

Kind of like Greece in that they both think about things a lot

Is gentle with and will play with the kids in his neighborhood when they rope him in; he makes sure they are happy and sometimes buys them treats 

Plays the Đàn tranh (Vietnamese zither) with his window open to relax

Has an assortment of antique weapons on his walls for decoration (that he occasionally polishes and reminisces on

Has one or two songbirds as pets that he can spoil and listen to the singing

Instead of a rooster, he wakes up to the chirping of the birds in the morning

Bikes or walks everywhere

A sucker for AC

Turns out I have a lot of headcanons, and some of these are based on relatives I have or my personal experiences!

((Thank you! And yes, Vietnamese girls can have bright skin like Chinese or Korean girls, but there is a good amount of people with dark skin in Vietnam. Miss Vietnam spends a lot of time outdoors and skimps on skincare, so I gave her a more tan skin color.))

Macau: Vietnam, you still owe m-

(She’s not as nearly good as Macau, but she loves gambling occasionally and she’s getting there! [If you were wondering, she owes more than Macau does, but is adamant about calling it even].

For Vietnamese locals, gambling in casinos is technically legal but the casinos haven’t been accepting them. Vietnam thinks it would be in poor taste to participate in illegal gambling rings, so she goes to Macau to do it instead. She’s not an addict, but she’s very competitive.)

Who is Ivan(Russia) to you

Vietnam, do you and Russia often meet each other? Does he scare you?

Russia? Well, we’ve always had a strong military partnership and I appreciate his provision of arms to support me during the Vietnam war despite his different objectives, and we still have important military ties to this day. So, perhaps a long-withstanding military partner? However, what with the South China Sea dispute going on, I’m not particularly fond of how close he’s getting to China…

Ivan, on the other hand–he’s a tricky one. We’re close, but he’s hard to read and I’m not quite sure about his motives these days. Visits aren’t terribly frequent but we see each other occasionally on bilateral meetings. He might come off as scary to some at first, but I’m fine with it; I just find him the slightest bit unsettling.

((Despite her outward cheeriness, she’s a tough cookie and years of having ties with Russia have made her used to him. She was wary of him at first, though. It’s quite weird when they do meet because it can get uncomfortable with the climate differences between Russia and Vietnam. They can bear it though, both countries get extreme temperatures on both ends of the scale and both of them are very tough–it just takes some getting used to. [I tried to make a distinction between her views of him as a nation and him as a person].))
