i have like 0.00001 knowledge on astrophysics so i’ll try my best okay:
rly long intro about time n space
time doesn’t exist when there’s no space in the first place nor vice versa, so both space n time are connected!! Let’s consider spacetime as a fabric.
for now, mass = “WEIGHT” just for basic understanding (although it’s not completely true that mass=weight)
this also somehow explains gravity because if u add a thing WITH MASS on the fabric it’ll go make a pit like:
and how a black hole sucks in other stuff is bc its small n REALLY HEAVY. Since it has MORE MASS than the sun, the pit is a LOT DEEPER. when things fall down steeper pits the speedo gets faster too.
Another thing to remember is a theory by our home man Einstein called theory of GENERAL RELATIVITY, saying that gravity affects time.
(gravity = curvature of the spacetime fabric/THE PIT)
this theory proves the theoretical existence of a WORMHOLE.
this theory also proves that movement can result in a difference in the way time passes - called time dilation - if you travel at a faster speed, you’re also traveling through time towards the future.
(time dilation was proven IN REAL LIFE in the 1970′s with 2 jets, each with a clock that started at the same time: 1 jet was moving at fast speeds and the other remained still. the moving jet was ahead of the still jet by a few billionth of a second… This is also true for moving in general. Even when you walk/run you’re actually traveling into the future by like,,, a very very very small amount of time so moving technically counts as time traveling…)

actual wormhole stuff starts here
a wormhole is a THEORETICAL spacetime curvature that connects two different locations/times on the spacetime fabric.
Think of it as having two points on the fabric, a starting location as one point and the destination as another.
Logically, the least distance to reach the destination would be a path like this:
let’s call this the 1st path (PINK):
however, the WORMHOLE suggests FOLDING the fabric of spacetime so that the distance needed to reach the destination significantly decreases… n u poke a hole between the points so u can travel through the fabric itself.
let’s call this the 2nd path (GREEN):
oh boy this is where the intro comes back to use:
when you travel through the wormhole, you would be SHOT AT HIGH SPEED(due to the wormhole’s gravitational curvature/STEEP PIT except its more of a TUNNEL since the other end is open):
since you’re SHOT at NEARLY THE SPEED OF LIGHT, TIME DILATION occurs.
this causes the time experienced through the 2nd (green) path to be much less than the time experienced through the 1st (pink) path, and there you have it. you’ve time traveled into the future compared to another person who didnt even bother approaching that wormhole at all.
