Talking about this lifted a small weight he hadn’t been fully aware was dragging him. He smiled a real genuine smile. He hadn’t done that in a while.

It didn’t last for long, though, because as his thoughts raced on, they soon made it back to the beginning.

He lowered his arms and rolled to his side, burying his face (and words) into the wall.

“I hope the kid doesn’t like me. I hope we don’t like each other. If I leave, it would make it easier.”
