Sofia sighed as she through the bucket of water onto the concrete sidewalk in front of her grandmother’s restaurant. She did love to help, but cleaning and getting wet in the cold Monterrey winter was torture as she shivered. She went back inside to get more water and when she returned she splashed it onto the pavement, accidentally hitting a passerby.
“Ay! Perdón!!”(oh! Sorry!!) she shouted as she noticed the drench stranger. Sofia hurried to get a towel remand brought it back. “Perdón! Entra y te haré un chocolate caliente y a ver si tengo algo que te pongas!” Seeing his confused face she lead him inside and began to speak in English. “I’m really sorry I will make you a hot chocolate ok? Hopefully I’ll have some extra clothes that you can wear.”

Andrei shivered shivered, not really used to the cold. The winters in Romania were not that cold, except for the times a cold front from Russia came in, and then Andrei would stay inside all and watch rom-coms with his flatmate. But today, he had to accompany his flatmate to Mexico for a business meeting. He went with his flatmate directly to the meeting, said that he hated it because the AC was making him cold, and she told him to go exploring and get something to eat. He had to ask around for a good place to eat, but because of choppy Spanish and his accent, he ended up wandering until he found a restaurant just to his liking. And then water hit him.
He stiffened his spine froze to the spot, his copper eyes looking as he was about to cry but then he shook it away at the girls voice. At first he didn’t understand what she was saying, but as she hurried away, he slowly started to comprehend. He smiled, glad someone was helping a stranger, one that barely spoke the same language as them. As she hurried back, and started thanking her. “Mulţumesc–! Um, thank you!” he said, a making small mistake because his brain trying to comprehend what was happening,
Sofia pulled him through the traditional restaurant that her grandmother owned and into the back that connected to their large family home. She pulled him into the living room and gestured that he should sit.
“I’m really sorry!” she apologized once again before handing him a large blanket. “I was cleaning and I didn’t notice you I just,” she cut herself off with a deep sigh, feeling like an idiot for what she did. “Do you want coffee or hot chocolate?” she finally spoke again.
As he sat down, he wrapped the blanket around himself, silently thinking that this was not a bad omen, and he should not freak out.
“Erm, it’s fine. I-I mean, I have fallen in a frozen lake before and escaped with nothing but a small cold, and plus, it’s good that you are cleaning..” He ended awkwardly, adverting his eyes from hers. “O-oh, and I’d like a hot chocolate, thanks.” Andrei said, shuffling his feet.
Sofia put the teapot filled with milk on the stove to heat before returning to the living room with the male. "Frozen lake??" she questioned before shaking her head and smiling slightly. "In sorry I should find you something to wear before anything else. I'll be right back!" she hurried up the stairs to see if her cousins had anything that he could wear while she put his clothes to dry. The house was rather cozy, filled with many pictures of graduations and happy looking young women in their 15th birthday puffy dresses, there was also one of Sofia wearing a poofy crimson red dress and posing in front of a beautiful mural. Before long Sofia hurried back down with a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt as well as a jacket. "Here I think these will fit!" she smiled as she handed him the clothes. "You can change upstairs." she pointed to the stairs that led to a loft and all of the bedrooms.

Sofia smiled widely and scooted closer to him, kneeling beside him as it was awkward for her to sit in her animal skin skirt. “Sawar you will stay?” she asked in choppy Uzbek. She had heard of some of the men speaking of when he would leave, and honestly she hope he would stay with her.
Sawar smiled and gently pulled her into his lap, settling his arms around her waist loosely, in case she panicked. “Of course, Sofia.” He replied in her tribal language, equally choppy.
She smiled and leaned back against his chest so her back was pressed against him. Sofia placed her hand on his cheek and stroked it lovingly. "Good," she nodded lightly. "You leave and I go." She spoke with quite a few pauses, trying to figure out a way to make him understand what she ment.

Sawar adjusted his tie nervously as the last of the bridesmaids and groomsmen came down the aisle. His eyes trained on the back door. He had only seen his soon-to-be bride once before.
'I hope she's beautiful.' He thought before the Bridal chorus began playing and the back doors opened to reveal the woman.
The morning came quickly and soon the sunlight filtering in through the French doors woke Sofía. She yawned and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes gently as she stretched.
Sofía couldn’t help but blush at the gesture, as she quickly finished up preparing their meal. She set the meal on a large swatch of cloth to keep it from touching the ground and gestured for him to eat.
She smiled, hoping that he would enjoy the meal that she prepared for him.

"Nothing," she answered and smiled up at him. "I am just happy to be with you." She yawned slightly and pulled the blanket over them. "I’m glad we are married."
He smiled. “Me too.” He brought her left hand to his lips and kissed the ring that now adorned her finger.
Sofía couldn’t help but smile at his tender gesture. “It almost feels like I’m in a dream,” she murmured softly. “Before I walked into that room I was afraid that I would be stuck in a horrible marriage with a man that I hated.” She adjusted her position so her head rested on his chest.
"To be honest? I thought I would be married to some ugly woman." He chuckled and rubbed her back gently.
Sofía giggled and hummed softly, listening to the stead beating of his heart. “I guess we were both proved wrong.” She leaned up and placed a kiss on his neck softly.
He shivered and the touch of her lips and smiled. “Yeah. We were.”
Sofía smiled and yawned softly, resting her head on his chest once more. "Goodnight," she stated softly. She knew that she wouldn't be able to stay up much longer as that day had been so eventful.
It had been weeks since that incident, and Sawar was finally up and moving well. Everyone in the village enjoyed his presence and they decided to give him a place in the village. His home was at the far end of the village, a rather large and well constructed home surrounded by a garden of native plants.
Since then the girls of the village visited him once in a while, but none as often as Sofía. She was at him home everyday from sunrise to sunset. She grew to love him very much and she understood a bit of his language, though she still needed to learn much more.
That day was no different. Sofía rushed to Sawar’s home after her morning chores and knocked on the door to his home softly.
Sawar smiled as he heard the daily knock on his door arrive. “Enter.” He said, in what was probably a horrible attempt at speaking her language. He could speak very, very basic words and sentences, but his pronunciation needed work.
As she walked in, he smiled brightly and took her hand. “Hello.”
Sofía smiled, closing the door behind her and bowing her head slightly. She thought for a bit before cheerfully greeting him as well, in what little of his language he had taught her.
She wore the typical loose dress of the Aztec women and had her long thick hair in a braid that fell down her back. She smiled and held up a women basket filled with cactus fruit and other traditional food. “Hungry??” She asked him as she lifted the basket a bit to show him what was inside. At this point she was upset that she couldn’t fully communicate with him and stayed up studying the phrases he taught her.
He smiled and nodded emphatically. “Yes!” He reached for the basket.
Sofía giggled and held it away from him slightly. “Hurt,” she pointed to the basket trying to tell him that the cactus inside still had the spines on. She then hurried to a clay basin beside a sort of chimney that served as the kitchen. She sat on the ground and carefully reached past the cactus to hand him a handful of berries. “I cook,” she pointed to herself and the basket. “Wait.” She then pointed to him.
She went to work quickly starting a fire in the chimney and cleaning the cactus carefully.
He smiled and sat next to her to watch her, munching on the berries she had provided for him. “Okay. Me sorry.”
Sofía smiled and touched his cheek softly. She then turned back to the meat that was now roasting over the burning wood. The woman seemed almost fearless as her soft hands reached into the chimney to flip the meat over. Quickly she pulled her hand out and continued cleaning the cactus.
A few stray curls had fallen out of her braid and now fell over her shoulders as she continued preparing their meal.
