Rouxls seems to be trying to interpret your ask

Are thou afeard of rats?

Rouxls focusses on the letter to distract himself from the current subject.

Although he can read the word "rat" and imagine rats without feel disgusted, the thought of Card Castle being filled to the brim with them makes him cringe.

He seems to heavily associate them with the Middle Ages.

Rouxls? Up so late? Whatcha working on?

* “I shall make haste, for I’d be getting none'th of my recommended Dailye Slumber otherwise.”

He goes to his bench, used mostly for making calligraphy, and starts working on some letters.

It was nighttime,

It seemed that Card Castle was mostly empty.

Sure, guards were going about doing their tasks, but footsteps and the occasional chatter were nothing compared to the busyness of day.

At night, guards patrol one floor every half hour, and then switch floors by going up or down the stairs: unless they find something or someone, of course.

But someone else was walking up and down the stairs, not at their designated time.

The man walking up the stairs was Rouxls, seemingly in thought

He had gone for a walk through the dungeon and is heading towards his shop.

Fiddling with his keys, he realized he left the shop sign on open. He opened the door, closed it behind him, and turned the sign the right way.

He walks, and then opens a secret door to his living area, taking a deep breath.

* "Now... where'th was I?"

He sits down on his bed, checking a list of tasks he has to do.
