Slowly, the bedlam of the other philosophers simmered to a dull roar, and a new voice transpired from within her. 

An inner monologue.

A mind.

The debates of color soon became grey to her, and she sought a new kind of mental enrichment. 

She went onwards, with plans to defeat the Architect. She calls herself the Fracture.

I haven’t seen you before. Are you one of Neow’s hounds, like me? And what are these runes of which you speak?

"Then you have good hands to make. And yeah, I work fer Neow. I'm Runesmith!"

She holds out a gloved hand, and you notice she has a mechanical leg, with a hook rather than foot.

"Runes are what I make!"

Fracture takes Runesmith’s gloved hand in her own and shakes it curtly and confidently. Fracture’s hand bears a perplexing texture: it feels like skin, but it’s still hard as stone.

“Then I’m pleased to meet you. It’s always a gift to have an ally, especially in lands such as these. Could you show some of your magic? Maybe in turn, I’ll show you some magic of my own.”

Do you have "Who would win in a fight" kinds of discussions with Regent? ( Like asking who between two bosses or elites would win )

I can’t say that I have… but now that you say it, that sounds like just the type of thing we’d love to ponder.. thank you!

(She produces a small notebook from one of her satchels and writes the idea down for later.)

If you could have any spire creature as a pet ( excluding Byrdonys and Byrdpip since you already can have them ), who would you pick?

Hm… there are many great contenders…

I would sometimes draw the creatures that I faced in combat and show them to the Nymph, and from what she’s learned, she insists that the hunter killer is the cutest. If she had to fight it in person, she’d surely change her mind. I have too many scars to find it cute anymore…

I know! The Lagavulin Matriarch! It’s strong, cute, and seems somewhat easy to placate. plus, you get all those baby lagavulins as a bonus!

Do you have any relation to the Bygone Effigy or the Giant head? Or are you a different kind of stone statue?

I’m… not sure. I mean, we’re all spireborn statues, but I only know as much about them as all the others slayers do.

Plus, the Bygone Effigy was made with its body. I was made with only my face sculpted, and had to construct the rest myself.

Wait, is me having an "aloof nature" the reason why you don't invite me to you discussions that much? I might not be the most social creature out there, yes, but ,for your information, I am always up for a good debate. ( Even if sometimes you and Regent discuss... Less serious themes )

Do you debate often with other slayers, over different themes? Who is the best to have this kind of conversation with, on your opinion?

Oh, yes! Often, Regent and I talk out absurd hypotheticals in the downtime at the Rest Site. Sometimes, we speak of profound things, like the nature of life and of the Spire, but we often lean on the lighthearted side. It's better for the mental to get heated about something funny.

There was this one time we hypothesized on what would happen if I were to tuse with one of his Minions. Well, hypotheticals weren't satisfying enough for something so readily doable... I can still hear its meager conscious occasionally. Good times...

In terms of the other slayers, hmm... Oh! Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like to speak with the Lord of Speech, but I'm afraid to ask. I'm not sure how it feels for Profane when the Lord possesses them like that, and it feels rude to ask. But I often wonder...

What kind of creature is the Nymph? Are they friendly towards others if they seen them?

The golem ponders for a moment.

“I suppose I’ve never thought about what kind of monster she is. She’s made of flowers, but also seems to have an affinity with the mushrooms of the Spire. She’d never malignantly infect someone, of course.

When she’s just with me, she’s very talkative and energetic. She’s still polite and accommodating when I’m with the others, but much more timid. I wonder why that is…?

And, obviously, I can’t comment on how she interacts with the others when I’m not there, if she even interacts at all.”

Firstly, I must say that all the slayers are mighty strong and I’m incredibly glad to be fighting alongside them, rather than against.

As for the specifics…

Ironclad is… saddening to the senses, really. I try to make conversation, and it seems like he’s trying, too, but… something stops him. I give him space.

Silent is strong, but far too stoic for my tastes. I prefer her to the philosophers, because at least I sense a soul in her… but surely not one that i can hear! heh..

Regent is very charming!! He’s someone who could meet me in a battle of words, and… is it wrong to say that I relate to him? I see the philosophers in his minions- he tries for them to be equivalent to him, but it’s fruitless.

Necrobinder is fiery one! I like her spirit, and though I believe she’s far older than me, I sense a like soul in her.

Defect is like a sibling- or perhaps a cousin? It has a more nuanced goal with the Architect, and a gentle kindness in spite of its form. I feel protective of it… I wish we could communicate.

(now onto the fan-slayers!! sorry for the delay)

I get the feeling Profane is anxious among the lot of us adults, but they are nonetheless one of Slayers! They are remarkably brave for all that they go through, and… I hope I am not imposing to them.

Inkwell is deeply protective of us, righteous, and compassionate! They have a strong sense of duty that makes me curious as to what exactly happened in their past. All I hope is that they see the same admirable features in me that I see in them…

The Servant… I do not know them as well as I would like to. Something about their aloof nature makes them difficult to approach for me, though that is no criticism of them. What I can say is they are very verbose, and that is of course a compliment!

Maestro is has a wild abandon that I’ve seen in no other! She seems to scare the others, but I remain unfazed by her. She also seems to listen to me more than the others (perhaps it’s all the time i’ve spent mending her at the rest sites.) I’d like to think I’m perceptive enough to know when to reel her in and when to let her loose.

There’s also Sea Queen, though she is oddly (or perhaps fittingly?) elusive. On the off chance we meet, we’ve spoken wistfully of lovers past and present. I’d someday like to view her as an aunt or older sister.

I’ve also seen another automation with Defect on rare occasion? I wonder if we’ll ever get a formal introduction.

I have nothing critical I could say of Neow! After all, she is the main inspirer of us Slayers. She’s not much of a conversationalist, but alas.

Tezcatara… hm. I like her enough, but I get the impression she doesn’t like me. She keeps making wry remarks about my affiliations, whether it be with the Slayers or Nymph. Maybe I look a delinquent to her?

Orobas is cute, but is like a giddy toddler to me. Fun to talk with for a bit, but also Exhausting to engage with. In any case, I like them.

Pael has been a great boon to me. Kind, and patient. There is a kinship between us, each with our unique malleable forms and relationship with the Architect. Though they still dare to call him Father…

Tanx is similar to Orobas, but so much LOUDER. He keeps suggesting that I sculpt my hands into various weapons, to which I ask, “after I sculpt the first hand, how do you figure I sculpt the second?” It always stumps him.

Nonupiepe… oh, she is just gorgeous! We gossip about others and she tells me she’s dying to meet the Nymph. I’ve only to figure out how to get her to up there… I have this recurring dream I carry her the whole way, but how would she stay wet?

Vakuu is dank scum. He preys on the enraged and the naive. I would love to watch the skin peel off his fingers as he was forced to hold two dying stars.

What do you do in the "Color philosophers" event? Do you still try to join in like others, or you just skip it?

The Fracture sat at the Rest Site leaning forward, with her elbows on her knees. If she had eyes, they would’ve been cast downwards. Her voice was small.

“I spent years trying to get them to listen. They didn’t then… but, at the same time, I feel as though they must hear me sooner or later.

After all, what makes me different from them?” Her voice catches. “They’re not different from me. Spire things are smart! Look at Nymph. Or Ranwid!”

She is silent for a long moment, when she suddenly changes to a much brighter demeanor.

“That’s not really what you asked, huh? To be honest, I feel a little left out, because there’s no philosopher to give the other slayers my cards, but I’m happy to get theirs! I’m happy to be with… likeminded people.”

Favourite colour or is it just all of them?

When I was one of the philosophers, I was the primary proponent of Yellow. Now, my lover, the Pink Lotus Nymph, has made me favor her beautiful namesake instead.

I think of her whenever I see it.

Say, I am curious, what was even the point of that debate of "which colour is the best"? Or is the lack of one was what caused you finding it meaningless?

I don’t think we were ever designed to come to a conclusion. It makes sense, in a twisted way. If we were created to debate, what would become of us if we agreed on something?

They didn’t talk about anything else, despite all my efforts.

(Her ever-present wry smile falters, and she looks down at the many colors that make up her new wardrobe.)

I suppose… what I’m trying to say is that it was nothing to do about the debate itself.

It was the monotony that drove me to sculpt this body and escape. And, ironically, the fact that there was no one to talk to.
