Slapped this together when the Infernal Master mini was first revealed; reposting it here now because I still find it funny.
More fashion!
"Ahzek? Is that you?"
“Yes Meli, it is! It’s been a while. How are you?”
Meli opened her mouth in a silent snarl, calling the warp to hold her flesh tight together.
The problem with the defensive trick, though, was that it took all of her concentration and she couldn’t change her eyes.
She’d been expecting light, so she’d kept them as standard. The eyes of a Nostraman or a nocturnal creature would have been stricken had the light come on as expected.
+Light?+ she asked tersely inside his head. Her mind-voice carried the exact same tone as a dog with its hackles up, all defensive tension as she kept herself squarely between Ahriman and the source of the unnerving sound.
The moment she thought it, it happened. Brilliant luminescence filled the room, banishing the shadows.
There, in the corner of the room, hunched over was a withered figure in ocean blue armour. Ahriman frowned.
“Ctesius?” Ahriman asked. The sorcerer took a cautious step toward the figure, “Is that you?”
The figure’s eyes snapped around; the glazed look faded and a semblance of sanity returned. Recognition dawned in those eyes, followed by a flash of disappointment. “You’re alive?” Ctesius snatched a glance at his companion and his frown deepened.
“I am. This is Meli. Meli, meet Ctesius, demon summoner extraordinaire, or at least he was.”
Ctesius sneered before straightening up. He was a thin, wizened old thing, but there was still strength in him yet.
Meli took a quick step aside to allow Ahriman to move forward, although she herself advanced to stay slightly ahead of him, ever ready to leap forward at the first sign of aggression.
The revelation that the creature was an astartes, and one that Ahriman knew, wasn’t of much comfort. The man looked bad, and Meli had encountered a significant number of astartes in the Eye who had gone nuts, feral, or daemony. This guy looked a bit of each.
“Er, hello,” she said as Ahriman introduced her. “Are you... alright?”
Ctesius looked over at Meli, unbound years of exhaustion weighed in his eyes but he looked whole otherwise. “I think so,” he said. His voice was paper thin but he appeared to be gaining strength with every passing moment.
“The demons?” Ahriman asked.
“Gone from this place,” Ctesius replied. “The bound ones have fled but I am intact, they did not take me.”
“What of Ignis?”
Ctesius shrugged, “The Master of Ruin is not here.” There was a pause. “You look like shit.”
“I feel it,” Ahriman said. “Why is nothing working?”
“The demons that escaped ravaged the place. It was after you disappeared, this place almost fell apart.” Ctesius explained. He turned back to Meli, “How did you find him?”
Meli watched warily as they spoke. Normally by this point she would have re-humaned her arms, but right now she didn’t trust her reflexes enough to let go of the combat preparedness advantage of protective scales and offensive claws.
She was suspicious of anything that made weird noises in the dark, even if it could talk and ask her questions.
“Uh, by- by accident,” she replied slowly. “Well, kind of. I was looking for people, but not Ahzek specifically. I wander around a lot, and I was looking for some friends. Got pointed in this direction when I asked if anyone had seen... well. I was trying to describe Black Legion, but I don’t think daemons are very good at telling what kind of humans do what. He, it? said there was some kind of powerful psyker presence, so I went and had a look and...”
She trailed off and gestured at Ahriman with a set of claws, in lieu of rehashing the obvious.
“I see,” Ctesius said.
“She isn’t going to do us harm, nor is she a demon to be bound,” Ahriman said, seeing where Ctesius might be going with this. “She is a friend, and not to be harmed!”
“I had no intention of doing so!” Ctesius protested a little too quickly.
“Why, if you are here, is the ship in such a state?” Ahriman’s irritability showed, no longer able to keep it hidden behind a façade of calm. He was tired, hungry and beyond uncomfortable. Ctesius’ musings had never been something he could endure for long, now was no exception. “Which rooms are usable? We both need some rest and to get cleaned up.”
Ctesius sighed, “The one across the hall and the one next to it are both fine. The water is cold though.”
“Sort yourself out too, we have work to do!”
Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable. In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve? Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method?
[ Taken from this questionnaire, as of now - accepting more! ]
Thank you for an ask!
Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable.
I will be doing this one for Sanya, the precious potato ex-guardsman.
I feel like a good case for a moment when he felt if not the most, than at the very least very uncomfortable was during that one time when he was pretending to be a fledging ship captain of a gala thrown to celebrate someone's ascension to the status of a Rogue Trader.
Stiff protocol, people who are clearly unhappy about him breathing their oxygen, odd etiquette demands and gnawing feeling that if not originally so, than now he is just here to be the class clown.
Also absolutely abhorrent series of interactions with the host left him very out of his element and now even tiny cupcakes in the buffet weren't able to help.
Thankfully Lacedrace quickly stole what she needed from the governors personal museum and they took their leave.
Not to add those were his first ever interactions with people so far removed from his own place in society and also his first time in year or more interacting with normal people and not his lovely group of weirdos, renegades and aggressive wildlife.
In conclusion, my man is kind of heart, dumb of ass and reverts to unga-bunga when faced with formal protocol.
In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?
Doing this for everyone's favourite, Shanakay.
Shanakay, when faced with criticism of literally anything about how will, first of all, tell offender to go and make passionate love to themselves. Secondly, she will go through grief and denial several times in a row. And then will viciously correct any actual or imaginary imperfections in her performance or actions or appearance or whatever.
In some occasions, however, she just might find critic, criticism or topic so below her attention she won't even react. Or maybe stab the offending party.
There is also rare "playful banter" possibility, but it haven't happened in a while.
Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method?
Will do this one for An'Hangra, another fan favourite.
Now, as it was once said - through unimaginable violence nothing is impossible and she lives by these words.
If axe is not solving your problem - try a bigger axe. If bigger axe is not slowing your problem - try a different weapon. Id different weapon is not slowing is just means you are not using it vigorously enough. If even this fails - maybe you are the problem.
So, she is definitely somewhat flexible, but her different solutions are hardly different and in vast, vast majority of cases involve some form of swinging around sharp objects. To say that carnage and bloodshed won't solve an issues is a quitter's talk.
They're a 10 but there is also a 20/10 possibility she will eviscerate you and eat you for breakfast.
"Keeler says I am to not eat humans."
"But you is Marine, not human....." Gets ideas.
“Yes, we was meant to be next step of humanity, so make new humans!”
“I did, once,” Ahriman said. “My son died in my arms when he was no more than twenty years. I have not tried again since then.”
".... huh."
Ahriman pressed his lips together, the grief of that moment was still raw. “I hope that your child brings only joy,” he said. “Do you know what you are having?”

“They’re a 10, but da rubric is outta a bajillion."
Ahriman looked sheepish. The ork was right after all.
The sharp scent of tobacco fills the air as the sound of footsteps announce someone's arrival. "It's been a while."
Ahriman recognised the scent immediately and turned to face the footsteps. He raised an eyebrow as an old friend approached and smiled, “It has.” he said, “Are you well?” he asked.
Continued from here:
By the time he found her Akhenaten was already dressed in simple daytime robes. She kissed Ahzek on the cheek. “You don’t have to apologize. You were exhausted. Come, I have already warmed your meal from yesterday.”
When they entered the kitchen they were greeted by the delicious scent of food. The sorceress gladly broke her fast. It was scrambled eggs and ham, toast with butter, and fruits along with copious amount off coffee.
“I remember how you looked at me when I gulped coffee as a teen. Your face said exactly what you thought about it. You were never a fan, right?”
“I always preferred tea,” he said. “I found the taste of coffee too bitter, and the sugar never quite fixed it to my liking.”
Ahriman ate with relish. The food was exceptional and he had not had anything decent to eat for as long as he could remember. He had not exactly been fed during his imprisonment, and good food was always hard to come by. Starch paste, which he hated, was usually all there was unless one wanted to start eating the mortal crew. He shuddered at the thought.
“This is delicious, thank you,” he said, brushing the thought aside.
“You´re welcome. I made it with love.” She served herself more coffee and niblled on a toast. Later she’d eat some nutriguel. While tasty, mortal food did not nourish astartes. Akhenaten would make sure to share her reserves with Ahzek. “Before I forget, I always make sure to bring stocks of nutriguel. Not the best taste, but oh well, that’s what we need to live. Feel free to grab what you need from the pantry.”
Ahriman grimaced at the mention of the gruel. He had been sustained on it for far too long to relish the taste anymore. Still, he knew he should take some of it with him; there might not be another supply for some time and he would rather eat that than starve. “I will take some with me,” he said before finishing the last of his tea. “I am sure I left my ship around here somewhere. I should probably start looking for it.”
“Haven’t seen you in a long time Ahriman. Doubt you remember it. I think it was the assault on Votrix 7?” Darius says amicably as he cleans Libertas’ blade.
Ahriman remembered Votrix 7 as a particularly nasty campaign that had left him bereft and a wreck. It was not one of his finer moments, and not one he was keen on remembering at all. He nodded all the same.
"I don't recall the details," he lied. "But you do seem familiar. You have me at a disadvantage..." he said. He had never learned the names of the warriors he had fought - to do so would be foolish, considering a lot of them died!
“I’m Darius. Chapter Master of the Revenants of the XIVth. Although I’m more commonly known as ‘The Revenant of Istvaan III’ among the traitor legions. Atleast among the Death Guard anyways.”
“I do not know of you,” Ahriman said with a slight shrug of his shoulders, “I have never been a fan of the Fourteenth Legion, and that was before Istvaan.” Ahriman had not been there for those tragic events, he had been too busy watching his world burn instead.
“I know we returned the favor before the Heresy, I can only imagine the hatred between the two legions grew immensely due to opposing worship. Nurgle and Tzeentch are opposites after all.”
“I can’t say I am overly fond of Tzeentch either,” Ahriman said. The chaos gods caused nothing but trouble as far as he was concerned. His Legion’s dependence on Tzeentch was as distressing as it was troublesome.
“And yet you serve him. Albeit I’m not exactly a fan of the Emperor and I serve his Imperium. So I suppose we’re both in that predicament.”
“I do not follow the path that deity carves for me but my own,” Ahriman said - self-delusion was ever his forte - “I would rather that than serve. The state of the Imperium now is shocking.”
“‘Shocking’ is a kind way of putting it.” Darius says with a chuckle. “It goes against everything we fought for in the Great Crusade. It’s demoralizing to those that remember it. That isn’t many people now. Of the loyalist Astartes I think it’s just me and Bjørn the Fell-Handed that remember.”
“I am sure you’ll understand that I have not kept up with members of the Imperium for some time,” he said with an apologetic nod of his head. “I am sure none of them would be pleased to see me either.” He was unsure why Darius was bothering to speak with him, rather than just shooting at him which was the standard protocol he had encountered thus far.
“Well, Bjørn is a space wolf, so I don’t he’d like to see you too.” Darius says with a chuckle as he sheathes Libertas. “We don’t have to fight today. Why are you on this planet Ahriman? If we can solve this without violence it would be preferable to all. I’d rather not see my sons die, and I’d guess you rather not see the few living brothers you have with you die either.”
“Not all Space Wolves are bastards,” Ahriman said. “Only the ones I have known.” He was sure there were reasonable ones out there somewhere, he had yet to find any though. He glanced up at the planet, red sand swirled in a lazy wind; at least for the moment. “I am here to reclaim some of my lost brothers,” he said. “They were abandoned near the capital by some lesser sorcerers around three hundred years ago.”
“I will help you retrieve them if you give me your word, as a son of Prospero, to not attack any Imperial citizens. You can bring as many of your brothers as you need, I and my second in command Eklius will accompany you.”
Darius extends a hand to shake. “Does that sound satisfactory?”
Ahriman took Darius’ hand in a warriors grip and agreed to the terms with a nod, “How about as a son of Terra?” Although he was an exceptional liar, in this there was no deception.
“I do not like killing unless absolutely necessary. It seems a waste of a good resource at worst.”
“Ah yes I forgot, you were in the Legion before Magnus was found. As for the killing, it would be a waste of ammo and bodily fluids.” Darius states as he removes his helmet.
“Eklius will be arriving shortly, and then we can go get your brothers back.”
He hums. “Out of curiosity, what happened to the lesser sorcerer that left them there?”
Ahriman did the same, it seemed the right thing to do and he was sure Darius had no ill intention towards him - perhaps that would come later, perhaps not. Trust was in short supply here, but he had a little left.
“I am unsure,” he said. “The records from three hundred years ago are sketchy at best.
“I know what I would do if I discovered them after abandoning their brothers though.”
Lochir Drachious: *face ticks from the nails* greetings cousin, heard you have a winery? may i have a sample of your best wine?
"I think you should use the word had. I had a winery, on Prospero. Unfortunately, when Prospero was destroyed, so was all the wine along with everything else. I have not yet been able to find anywhere with the same capabilities of growing within the Eye of Terror, but if I do, I shall let you know..."
Lochir Drachious: pity, I've heard that the southeast of the eye has very fertile soil
“I have tried cultivation on many places within the Eye, all of the results have been not what I had hoped for, and certainly not suitable for fermentation!”
Lipchitz Drachious: quite the conundrum
“Perhaps, though I do not have as much time for such pursuits anymore. None of us have.”
