Ugh this was getting off to a great start, again not that she had expected to exactly be enjoying herself so no surprises here. She only hoped that this would be a game that didn’t last very long, she heard to much Katahiko exposure had devastating effects (Also if the group chat happened around this time then ew she didn’t want people to keep thinking she had a secret crush on him)

“Well at the very least, the title of the game is somewhat relatable right now and the game seems easy enough, not sure about it being fun though. Don’t worry about inviting more people, I don’t want to have to deal with more than I have to”

“Well, humans spill things, too!” Katahiko hummed briefly at her next remark. “Sure, sure~ Whatever you say~” Yeah, he definitely seemed to think she had a crush on him. Because who wouldn’t I guess.

He handed her the rulebook just in case. Wow that was really several pages.

Welp looks looks like he already wasn’t listening to her request about not humming already, can’t you do anything right Katahiko? She flicked her hair from her face and stared at him with an exasperated expression

Mai, as she did not know what in the world Katahiko was going on about when he was explaining the game, hastily grabbed the rulebook and looked through it no matter how much pages were in it, she wasn’t going to ask Katahiko of all people to elaborate, would only make her seem like an idiot who needs his help (which in a way she did but that was neither here nor there)

“You said cut throat though, Tomo wasn’t the only one to die remember?”

She hadn’t really taken notice if Katahiko had passed out during that ordeal but surely either way he had noticed Yukio’s lack of presence. She shook her head

“ Ugh whatever lets just continue”

She kept her head down and continued to read the rulebook, taking deep breaths to try not to get too upset over the death of Yukio. When Katahiko mentioned ‘meeple’ she turned her head and looked at the pieces, a slightly confused expression on her face

“Meeple? Don’t you mean people? Sorakubo if you’re going to make up words at least make them sound less stupid and even then it doesn’t make grammatical sense”

As Mai had never played a game before she never knew what in the world these words are despite her love of reading

Honestly that’s what annoyed her the most, she knew he could act all high and mighty but to seem as if she was reduced to a child was something she did not like one bit. She ate another cherry in an act of small defiance. Also Katahiko it’s a pin not an emblem thank you very much, can’t get even that right., her emblem is on the bottom edge of her jacket (Mai’s hand is covering it rip in that sprite rip)

That being said, I would appreciate if you did explain the rules at least a bit, I don’t want to look completely interested to this whole game thing. Also please stop humming, you’re giving me a headache already

She would probably read the rule book too, just in case of course

“I mean, you wouldn’t want to spill stuff on the game board, so some people have reservations about eating or drinking anywhere near one. I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about, though!”

Katahiko was seriously tempted to swipe one of the cherries for himself just to be cheeky, but he also didn’t want to die today. He just kept sorting out the pieces. Poor game box had been pretty rattled somewhere along the way.

“Oh, so you’d rather me talk than hum? Strange, I had the opposite impression, nyehehehe~ But as you wish~”

He cracked his knuckles (at least the ones that actually did that) and made sure everything on the game board was fairly neat.

“So, at the most basic level! I Need a Vacation here works off a victory point system, so whoever has the most at the final turn wins! There are several different ways to earn these, so you’ll probably want to focus on one or two depending what kinds of hands you end up with, but! Besides the different collection and area control mechanics, you can also directly steal points from the players, AKA me. Though it’s a two-to-four player game if you’d want anyone else to join us! It can get pretty cutthroat, nyaha!”

Well after…that adventure Mai was really just going to plan to do her own thing for a while although that really wasn’t much out of the ordinary, she didn’t feel like dealing with whiny babies right now.

So here Mai was, she was just sitting down eating her favourite food (Cherries) and chronicling in her notebook all of the events that had happened over the last couple of days. She had been writing in a while when she heard a voice coming closer to her

“Just who I was looking for!!”

[Filtered] she recognised that voice the moment the words had left their mouth. Ugh why her? Well she supposed this is what she got for sitting somewhere other than her room to eat cherries

She looked up and yep there he was, this time wearing a turtleneck for some reason that she didn’t care about. She popped one last cherry in her mouth before sighing and staring at him with an exasperated expression

“What do you mean fun? I doubt i can have any with you”

she waved her hand dismissively, hoping that he would just go away but then when she realised that he seemed like he wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon and she was indeed cornered she stared at his once more

“Well it seems you’re going to keep pestering me until we do so fine, lets just get this over with”

“Pff! Same as always.” If Mai was being dismissive, Katahiko wasn’t any different here.

As expected, she eventually relented. He bobbed on his feet excitedly for a moment before plopping himself down across from her and setting the game down on one side. He pried the lid off and started slapping boards and game pieces down.

“You can keep on with the cherries as long as you don’t spill any juice on the board or cards, okay? They’re your favorite, right?” He smiled and nodded at the emblem on her jacket. “So! I’d ask if you’ve played this before, but you’ve made it clear you haven’t, so I’ll be happy to explain the rules! You can still peruse the rulebook while I set up if you like!”

He briefly ground to a halt, two player pieces in his hands, looking disoriented, but he quickly shook it off and continued, humming. There were an awful lot of pieces to this game, hm.

After much searching, Katahiko had finally located and retrieved a board game from an unknown location. Maybe it just appeared out of nowhere. Maybe the Wonder Machine had decided to make up for its past transgressions by randomly hitting him with an object he actually wanted. Who knew.

Either way, he was hunting down Mai with a vengeance now. It took a little time—especially when he kept having to pause for dizzy bouts—but eventually he cornered her.

“Just who I was looking for!! How would you feel about doing something fun for once? Don’t answer that, we’re playing anyway.”

Speaking of pretty flowers, may I present to you the “Eighteen Scholars”, the flower of my heart-a variation of Camellia japonica L. Its uniqueness lies in the layers and layers of petals-one flower can hold as much as 130 petals.

Named “Eighteen Scholars” in Chinese because at the most, one bush can have up to eighteen of these pretty darlings :3

Mai hadn’t done much to really contribute to this group mystery. She had seen bits and pieces of what was going on due to being dragged places like a rag doll, first of course the pub where the ‘motive’ game was held and then by Dia who had tried to give them poisonous food (at least she had presumed at first, can’t rule out things) only to have everyone talk about how things were haunted in the infirmary. Oh give her a break, people shouldn’t be scared so easily, they may be in some weird new world but that didn’t mean the haunted hospital trope was occurring. Nevertheless she didn’t really care, she had been given the opportunity to leave as soon as Dia sai

d these spirits were attracted to negative energy and she had taken that, promptly walking off and ignoring Kosuke dabbing at her for some reason to her room For a while it seemed she was able to enjoy some much needed peace and quiet, something that seemed to be a rarity around here. So in order to pass the time and to enjoy this peace she began to write many things in her journal filling up pages and pages all while having a bowl of cherries next to her and eating them one by one (She had been baited into thinking she was going to eat after all)

Alas that peace came to an abrupt end when there was suddenly there was that bloodcurdling shriek emanating throughout the building. God people can be loud can’t they? Mai expected them to be screaming over some SpooOooOkyy ghost. Oh well she may as well leave and tell them to stop yelling like children, some people don’t want to have their ears bleed you know. And so she walked over to the source of the screaming only to find Dia, Geiru and a bit of a crowd slowly gathering.

Oh well look at that, Tomo’s dead hm. Tomo had been lucky enough to have no one talk to her (maybe because she was a showoff) and well now no one can talk to her again she supposed. Well just one less who could potentially talk to her and one more if they figure out a culprit for this and that meant more peace and quiet for her. She wasn’t too surprised though that there was a dead body, it was to be expected honestly, these people were idiotic children after all who had not a drip of rationality.

Well rest in peace Tokunaga-san I guess

And no I work alone - in actual matchmaking I, I can’t trust people to making the right match since they probably wouldn’t have the common sense to match properly. By other people I meant people from other people from outside matchmaking services since they want to find out how the oh so talented Camellia is so good at matchmaking people because then of course they will be able to make money from it. Otherwise I have worked with the newspaper club at my old school, they sometimes just announce updates on the like on my social media and publish my column in the school newspaper as well

Ugh this is a perfect example she had me by people wanting personal gain

“I don’t watch sports but I’m guess you want to segway into talking about yourself so lets just go with that then. I don’t want to continue talking about myself anymore anyway

“I can’t argue with that… Some people can manage it at times, at least, but overall we’re really not very rational creatures.”

Well if you really were just searching for common ground I’m sorry to say that sport isn’t one of them, can’t say I particularly would like to play table top games ever so I wouldn’t be able to provide you much discussion either. Well you said you like robotics right? I don’t have anything robotic but I guess that could be somewhat more interesting.

I’ve never really considered writing a paper on it, people have been trying to find out how I do it for a while now so might as well keep it a trade secret and I don’t particularly care enough about people knowing to share.

Well maybe not in matchmaking but I’ve certainly been able to see all different patterns of people in my lifetime

Well you have your typical hopeless romantics, they will pretty much go with anyone you match them up with, they just want a date and seemingly thing they’re going to have some fairy tale romance like in the movies and when they come to me with advice tend to be the people who experience the most heartbreak over a break up, there’s people who like to think they’re suave but fail miserably and which is why they have to come to me, kinky people who only come to me thinking I can find them someone to play into their kink and you have the ‘nice’ guys and girls that only complain to me about how they keep getting friend zoned and are pretty stupid to realise what they do wrong and then you have picky people who will always think they are above the people you match them with and in the end will just got with someone as narcissistic and vain as themselves. Of course there is many others though

“That makes enough sense. It’s valuable information. Though it could help a lot of people if you disseminate it properly, right? Then again, people are usually pretty bad at following advice with these things, I think.”

Some interesting events have occurred since the previous entry, I will try my best to sum up for previous reference for [REDACTED]

Classmates

This entry I will mainly focusing on the classmates I have been forced to stay with as it should be [REDACTED].

Aikiko Katsumi: I do not understand how but it appears we share some of the same views. She claims to be a realist but is somehow deluded in the thought that violence will be a solution to this situation. I have warned her but as per usual I can’t convince those blinded by their emotions, especially one that is a self proclaimed ‘child at heart’ or a an ‘adult child’ (A much better description, and one that most of the class needs to realise is true to them as well). She also kept insisting that we get cake together and that while I’m a sweet tooth while we were in the candy store. I am not a sweet tooth. [REDACTED]. Last entry I reported that she was now calling me Camellia like my alias however but she has now taken the liking to call myself ‘Cammie’ [REDACTED], I’m sure by next entry she will be calling myself something else

Geiru Umemoto: Nothing much to really report this time still, she is still completely and utterly boring and spark no interest to me however [REDACTED]. Her only use of her to me is that she seems somewhat competent in investigating things and she showed me some animal carcasses. Thrilling I know however it is a good idea if we remain vigilant but I don’t think I could convince these children if I wanted to, like everything else they would probably want to attack it. Umemoto also made me look at these bodies of course however did not tell me that my vision would go red. I did not appreciate that but at least it’s information?

Katahiko Sorakubo: I don’t know what I was expecting from someone who’s job is to be loud and like everyone else. a child but to be frank, this boy is a disaster. At one point I believed he referred to me as a prostitute due to the fact that my skills involve oxytocin (which as you already know Mai, is associated with sex) however he seemingly cleared up that that was not the case. Sorakubo likes to appear smart which unlike [REDACTED] is not by what I have [REDACTED] I think by throwing in scientific studies to me to catch me off guard so he can then explain to me what they are as if I am the one who is an idiot (which of course is not true, thank you [REDACTED]) He is also incredibly narcissistic but is in denial about it which when pointed out, only seems to inflate his own ego. I decided to be overly adoring towards him to [REDACTED] and it appears he has not reached that level of idiocy...yet.

Laurel Letellier: DO NOT TRUST. He somehow managed to find out information on myself and I am unsure how he did. I don’t believe I said anything that might have indicated [REDACTED REDACTED!!!!]. In future you need to be tighter locked up.It is unknown so far how much information he has on me or what he will do with the information that I [REDACTED REDACTED!!!]. As my roommate I run the risk of him getting a hold of my notebook and gaining more leverage on me and caution regarding hiding it should be taken....perhaps he already found it before interacting with me and that’s how he knew [REDCATED REDACTED!!!]

Sverre Eiriksson: Probably the most surprising development between my last entry and now, that being that we’re friends now? I didn’t think other thatn [Redacted] I would never have a friend, much less expected that I would make one so quickly. I know I somehow was the one to initiate the friendship I still can’t help [REDACTED] so I may have to just [REDACTED] a bit? He seems so far like a good person and it was rather surprising that he was seemingly interested in the flowers I tend to reference, which is nice considering that no one has appeared to be remotely interested in what I’ve had to say unlike everyone else in this class. I admittedly sunk down to the children’s level for a little bit and snapped at him before becoming friends due to having my old notebook in the ‘Wonder Machine’, which I know was...unfortunate but I can’t help that that is very important considering it has information about [REDACTED and a picture of [REDACTED]. I can't let that get out. Speaking of which, I hope Sverre doesn’t make me regret telling him some things.

Yukio Sato: Yukio....really [REDACTED] which is very unfortunate (or maybe fortunate?) considering the situation. He does seem pretty helpful and seemed genuinely concerned about the fact that I got hit by an entire drum set and was kind enough to take the items I got from the Wonder Machine back to my room. Diary, I am extremely conflicted on how I am meant to feel about this person

Notes

As referenced throughout the entry we have discovered something named ‘The Wonder Machine’ which is filled with items just as a regular gacha would but somehow fits extremely large objects such as entire drum set, which it is seemingly happy to, like the other items, throw at the receiver. It contained my notebook and [REDACTED] which I cannot understand how they obtained, much less as I have discovered, multiple copies. As there is seemingly many copies I must remain constantly vigilant that no one but I obtains the notebooks.

I mainly use my own intuition, to me it seems just like common sense on who would go well with others and what would make it successful so I don’t usually need outside help, my intuition is usually correct anyway, I have almost an 100% match rate after all

I guess I do have some ‘data’ though, I gather any and all information I can gather on people and piece it together from there and of course after a while you begin to see certain patterns as well in people

Well you have your typical hopeless romantics, they will pretty much go with anyone you match them up with, they just want a date and seemingly thing they’re going to have some fairy tale romance like in the movies and when they come to me with advice tend to be the people who experience the most heartbreak over a break up, there’s people who like to think they’re suave but fail miserably and which is why they have to come to me, kinky people who only come to me thinking I can find them someone to play into their kink and you have the ‘nice’ guys and girls that only complain to me about how they keep getting friend zoned and are pretty stupid to realise what they do wrong and then you have picky people who will always think they are above the people you match them with and in the end will just got with someone as narcissistic and vain as themselves. Of course there is many others though

I mainly use my own intuition, to me it seems just like common sense on who would go well with others and what would make it successful so I don’t usually need outside help, my intuition is usually correct anyway, I have almost an 100% match rate after all

I guess I do have some ‘data’ though, I gather any and all information I can gather on people and piece it together from there and of course after a while you begin to see certain patterns as well in people

You are right though that I assume that of people sometimes, in my line of work you can and do actually get people who are very….sexual towards myself or others, more than you’d think. I think even without though I would’ve interpreted it the same way.
