So first I want to say that I donāt know what happened. I canāt possibly know, but thatās kind of my point.
Iām also not calling anyone out, but I think thereās a trend on here to assume that Samās NICU stay was the result of negligence, which just...isnāt necessarily true. Iāve worked in several NICUs around the country and so Iām pretty familiar with equipment/diagnosis/etc.
I also apologize for how long this post is going to be, but Iāve been sitting on this for a while and just didnāt have a blog when the drama first happened š
All of that being said, the transition from womb to world is a Huge one. The entire circulatory system has to reroute itself. And some babies donāt transition well. Especially c-section babies (donāt get me wrong Iām fully pro c-section) since they donāt get the same squeeze on the way out they often have issues with residual fluid in their lungs which makes it harder to breathe and changes the vessel pressure which makes it harder for the circulation to change the way it needs to. This doesnāt happen in every c-section, but itās common enough that, in every hospital Iāve worked in, a NICU trained nurse has to attend the section and assess the baby. It might be very quick, and they may just introduce themselves as the ābaby nurseā so they donāt make the parents nervous. Itās not necessarily common for the baby to need NICU care but itās also not completely atypical.
Otherwise healthy term babies that donāt transition well are often diagnosed with either TTN (transient tachypnea of the newborn) or PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension) Neither of these are in any way caused by negligence from the parents. I have no way to know if thatās what Sam had, but I do know that everything in his delivery pictures could be explained by either. The oxygen (itās not a breathing tube it was a low flow nasal cannula which they only use for very mild cases in neonates, if it was really bad he would have had CPAP at the very least) the feeding tube (used to decompress the stomach after delivery and then if the baby is still breathing too fast or hard to provide nutrition so they donāt risk inhaling milk by nipple feeding) the IV site ( very common to place an IV in compromised babies to give fluid and sugar before they are ready to tolerate milk) and all the monitors (I didnāt see any monitors that werenāt standard)
Basically what Iām trying to say is that every day I see healthy term pregnancies, where the parents have done everything ārightā that turn out similarly.
I think in general the Duggarās donāt make the best reproductive decisions, but without more information I think itās completely unfair to blame them for things like āalmost killing their sonā or āputting Sam in dangerā especially when new mothers are already so prone to playing the āwhat ifā or āif onlyā game contributing to increased rates of post partum depression in NICU moms.
I also honestly didnāt expect anyone to read the tags and ask me about it. Oops haha
Iām sorry again about the length of this post. Especially since this is mostly a light hearted joke blog. I hope it makes sense but if thereās anything I didnāt explain well or that you disagree with feel free to tell me.
And to any mommas out there who have had NICU babies I want to reassure itās not your fault.

Yāall, Iāve been trying to stay out of this, but those arenāt the same girls. The place the skirt meets the shirt makes it pretty clear it wasnāt originally a dress. Or Janaās photoshop was much better than we thought, in which case why would she simultaneously choose such a bad pattern for the skirt? And the other girl is wearing a sleeveless top in Janaās picture. She certainly wouldnāt have covered up knees only to add sinful shoulders.
Plus the striped sleeves are tight in the supposed ārealā pic and loose in Janaās. Also the hair is different.
It also looks like the girl on the left is reaching into a deep low pocket. I seriously think sheās just wearing basketball shorts, which is why the hem looks the way it does.
Iām still willing to give Jana the benefit of the doubt and say she didnāt actually photoshop anything and that itās just a weird texture thing that the camera did in the nighttime fair lighting

I just donāt think itās really fair to be making Jana into a villain over this, when itās possibly not even true.
