Are there any idioms that you miss in english or sound better in german?

Oh, there a quite a few idioms and proverbs in German that don’t translate well into English. I don’t necessarily miss them, but they are way more fun in my first language. We have quite a few idioms that have to do with animals or food, and ones that Germans love to translate in the worst possible way (My favourite example: “I think my pig whistles”. Never fails to amuse me).

Idioms I still sometimes use even though no one understands them (as they just don’t translate that well) are ones like “Ich versteh nur Bahnhof”. Literally “I only understand train station”, figuratively “I don’t understand a thing”. I still don’t know why it’s talking about train stations though… maybe I should actually google it for once. Huh… you never really think about the origins of some things you always say, oder…?

*literally “You can take poison on that” - means “you can bet your life on that”. Which… does not make it better in that certain context.

Hello Mr. Gavin, how do you do? As you seem like a very kind-hearted person, how do you keep yourself together when it comes to dealing with the more brutal crimes ( graphic photos, cases of torture etc.), as I'm sure you've had to deal with those?

I’m usually lucky enough to avoid the more brutal crime scenes. As I’m a prosecutor and not a detective, the crime scene is usually less gruesome by the time I get there. It’s the detectives I have to work with that usually have to deal with the worse parts of these brutal crimes - like seeing the actual bodies lying there in cold blood…

I can handle such cases, though I most definitely do not feel well afterwards. Ironically, the detective I currently work with is a lady who hates the sight of blood, yet somehow manages to keep a pokerface even better than mine. Detective Cross - some of you might remember her as a former member of the Gavinners - usually becomes really grumpy when she returns from the crime scenes, but she manages to pull through, so I try to do the same.

Luckily, I never had a case that dealt with brutal torture, though, because I’m not sure how I would handle these, um ganz ehrlich zu sein…

Klavier! Now you're in the US, do you ever have full-German conversations with anyone? Or is it always just English?

I don’t get the chance to have conversations in German very often, now that my brother is behind bars. Sometimes I still give my parents a call, but usually I only have conversations in english.

On the rare occasion that Fräulein von Karma is nearby, I usually have a brief and pleasant talk with her in German (though I am not sure the feeling is mutual). Other than that, Herr Oberstaatsanwalt, Miles Edgeworth, sometimes practices his German conversational skills with yours truly, though he is usually too busy for that as well.

((Translation of their conversation: ))

Franziska: “It’s a minor miracle that I even caught my flight in the first place… Whoever started the rumour that german trains are always on time deserves to be whipped thoroughly…”

Klavier: “You’re absolutely right, Fräulein von Karma.” because heck yes she is asdfghjkl D:<

Don’t tell me you have a similar strange truth-seeking technique, like Herr Forehead and Fräulein Cykes have, do you? Alright, show me your magic and rock this court room, baby! With evidence, of course!

Well, so he is, and I did not deny it, ja? I surely enjoy his company, and I am honored to call him my friend as well. And I will also not deny that his forehead is indeed a very charming feature of him, wouldn’t you agree?

Why am I…? Hör zu, just because I am…

I am still not quite sure what exactly you even want to prove. You know how we usually do this in the court room, ja? The burden of evidence lies with the defense - or in this case, those who want to prove my theory wrong. And I claim that Herr Forehead is a friend I admire, yet nothing more.

Klavier do you have a crush on apollo? Its as simple as yes or no. *holds magatama*

Despite - or perhaps because of - my first impression and the circumstances we met in, I honestly admire Herr Forehead. He might not know it, but he did a lot for me by forcing me to face the truth about my brother and best friend. It hurt, and it still does, but it was necessary. Justice always has to win - quite literally in his case.

I enjoy spending time with him, yes, but if you’ve gotten any ideas thanks to how I treat him, I have to disappoint you. Surely you might have noticed that I treat everyone almost the same way, ja? The tabloids like to call me the “Prince Charming of the Court and Concert Hall" for a reason. Teasing Herr Forehead like this is fun, plus I enjoy spending time with him and seeing him flustered. But that is all there is, really.

So I might have to disappoint (or reassure?) you when I say: Herr Justice has my trust and admiration, but that is all there is.

What expects you at home after a long day at work?

I wanted to find a new home for her, but by now I am not sure if I want to give her away anymore.

Other than that… right now, there is nothing special waiting for me at my humble apartment. Except for my many, lovely guitars, of course ❤

wow. so uh, foreheads, am I right? foreheads are great, aren't they?

Funny story behind the whole “forehead” idea, though. Some of you might remember a certain case from about 8 years ago where foreheads were a huge deal. I’m talking about the murder of Magnifi Gramarye, of course. This case was the rise of a star and the fall of one, and eventually turned out to be connected to my brother’s misdeeds as well. Needless to say, this case continued to haunt me for many years. And when I first saw Apollo Justice - Herr Wright’s new “puppet” - I did not think too well of him, nor his forehead, which reminded me of my first case even more.

Aber trotzdem… I am honestly glad that this changed after I learned more about Herr Justice. By now, foreheads most definitely do no longer have a negative connotation for me ;)

Hey Klav! Did you grow your hair out because of Kristoph, or because of personal preference? :)

When I made a start as a prosecutor, I decided to grow it out to look both faboulous and more serious - like my brother - depending on the surroundings. By the time I realised it felt strange to try to be like someone I am not, this hair style had already become the “Gavin” hairstyle - the signature of a successfull attorney, and in my specific case also the peculiar hair style of the Gavinners’ band leader. Even thinking about changing my hair style felt like a betrayal to my fans.

But now that I feel like my life is finally beginning to fall back into place, I am considering to cut my hair again, like it was back when I began my career as a prosecutor. Even the remaining band members suggested it.

Maybe I will ask Herr Forehead as well what he thinks about this idea.

He’s always been a man of action rather than words, so that was a classic Daryan™. Of course he also couldn’t say a word when things cooled down between us, but I guess that’s just how he is. But words, that’s what I am here for, nicht wahr? ;D

Hey Klavier! Do you ever say/write secret things in German to people who don't understand it?

I will tell you a little secret, though. I rarely write secret things in German, because Google exists, ja? But I like to write a few notes to myself, notes I’ll never actually send. That might sound strange, but it helps me clear my thoughts.

Saying things in German, however… let’s say, it is always fun to see the confused looks on Herr Forehead or Fräulein Detective’s face when I say German things to them. Though, judging by the Fräulein’s angry glares, I believe she has found out by now what “Zuckerpüppchen” means, huh…

After any cases do you and apollo find any time to hang out? Maybe go get coffee after a long day?

I prefer to take Herr Forehead out for dinner at expensive fine restaurants, but once in a while we also visit a café after work to talk.

At least we used to… The last few months were very busy for both of us, and Herr For… Apollo appears to be stressed about a lot of things he is not telling me about. I’ve been asking him for more after-work-”dates”, yet he does not seem to catch my drift. Or perhaps he simply needs some time alone.

I will ask him next time.

Ever thought about braiding your hair? Putting it up in a messy bun? A little change in pace maybe?

When I’m at home I usually wear my hair in a bun. When I wear my hair like that on the street, people somehow have a harder time recognizing me, so I’ve started to take advantage of this as well. At least once in a while. (Not that I mind being recognized by all the beautiful Fräuleins out there ;D)

I’m not the braids kinda guy, though. I simply looks… a bit weird. I prefer my usual hair style, and so do my fans, I believe?

So Klav what's your relationship with Wright Anything Agency now? Fun?

I’m good friends with the youngsters at the Wright Anything Agency, but I think Herr Wright still doesn’t trust me. I can’t say for sure if that is because… a certain trial in the past, or because he feels like he has to be the overly protective father of all three younger members of the WAA. But even that doesn’t matter when I’m working on the same case as one of them; we’re always a good team, if you might call a prosecutor and defense attorneys a team, ja ;)
