Who are your biggest inspirations (on and/or off Tumblr)?
Hmm that’s a tough one since I have a lot so long post warning!
I’d say in terms of general artistic inspirations my partner, @penpeaches, is probably my biggest inspiration. Their art is so good and I envy their skills greatly. I hope one day I can draw humans (and humanoids) as well as they do. They’ve also just started ask blogging with @teamnextgen and they’re doing an amazing job so far. I fawn over every update.
Other artistic inspirations include:
@flame-shadow and all their ask blogs. Their creature design is SO GOOD. Whether it be bugs, dragons, or something else, it’s just really pretty to look at. They also were one of my first teachers back when I started taking art more seriously (I still have all the snout diagrams they gave me back in the day), and I can’t thank them enough for it.
Earthtonequeen is another big inspiration for me. Their original run of Shinka: The Last Eevee is what got me into Pokemon webcomics in the first place and the current reboot is so amazing (highly recommend it). I study their work a lot because their art style and their storytelling are very very good. It’s something I can only hope to somewhat replicate.
Petuniabubbles has also been a long time inspiration for me. She also was one of my first teachers back in the day and I’ve always been very grateful for her feedback on stuff. Her comic, Pokemon Rising Shadows, is also a very great read but also an amazing example of how people’s art styles can grow and change over the course of a comic’s progression, and I take solace in that a lot.
@samadriel-art is also a big inspiration because their understanding of anatomy of different species is such goals. Their designs have a really distinct flare to them to where I can recognize their art style right away. And their understanding of the anatomy of so many different species really benefits them because whether its horses, dragons, dogs, whatever, they can make a really bang up design that looks really cool.
In terms of ask blogging I’d say my biggest inspirations are:
@crewel-intentions was one of the first blogs I binged when I rejoined the community. Not only is the way Birdy draws humans such goals, but the blog itself and its story are just so interesting. Very excited to see what the newest plot updates have in story for us.
@askthetraveller is also a huge inspiration. As one of the longer standing blogs in the community, I hope that I can one day achieve a similar status of notoriety to what they have. Though there is a reason they got to where they are and it’s because the blog’s art and story are phenomenal. I actually wrote a whole article on it a while back if you want to check out exactly how much I love this blog and why.
@askingshinyninetales and all their various blogs. Owli was one of my first friends in the community and as such they sorta stood out as a big influence for me. Their understanding of anatomy is such goals and I want to just absorb that talent and skill into my soul. They’re just such a nice person with amazing art.
@asksavel is another one. Similar to Ask the Traveller, I really admire how they’ve been able to become one of the pillar blogs of the community (at least from my perspective) and hope I can achieve something similar one day. Their art and story are so good and I really admire them for it. Their backgrounds especially are just GORGEOUS! Such such goals.
@jazzy-art-time is a good friend and inspiration as well. How they manage so many blogs is beyond me and I applaud them for it. They’re able to effectively juggle so many stories and blogs while making them all equally compelling and interesting for the readers. I think that’s really neat and hope I can achieve a similar balance in the future!
@asktheisle is a super cool blog too that I admire a lot. Their lore writing is so great and I love how they seamlessly integrate Caribbean culture into their blog’s history. It makes for a super interesting and compelling backdrop to the current story, especially with how well it ties into the lore of the Pokemon world as a whole. Just very very good stuff that I like a lot.
There’s others that I’m sure I’ll think of in the future but for now I’d say this post is long enough, haha.
