I think you’re wise. Everyone I’ve ever met is a hypocrite when it comes to themselves, I think it’s pretty normal. Especially if they’re hurting or angry at the moment. Though it was something I made abundantly clear - that you were still in my life and one of my best friends. It seemed necessary before getting into anything new. We’re meeting for dinner and.... I’m just trying not to be nervous. Thank you for listening. I know this can’t be the easiest topic for two exes to discuss, even if they are still close.

Maybe? I did have flowers brought to me several times, but if you don’t know to warn the guests it makes sense. Aren’t tattoos supposed to be personal anyway? My tattoo probably wouldn’t make sense to anyone who saw it but it’s for me not them.

Getting over charged for a pizza and a car problem aren’t the worst things to go through. Spanish is cool, much easier. Maybe my time so close to the border helped, but it’s much easier than french. I think they find it easy, being their mother tongue and all.

No, but I wasn’t talking this specific case. I got over things pretty quickly but we were talking in a general sense. Spanish sounded so ugly I just... couldn’t do it. Not when others spoke it, but it doesn’t sound good when I do. French just rolls off the tongue and I got the hang of it pretty quickly. Maybe? Which was kind of my point, but alas.

It’s terrifying, but there would be no advances in society if no one did anything new and uncertain. It leads to scary things. Sad things. But it would never lead back to friendship and happiness if you never try. When I first met you, you were looking for help because of Dave too. And One of the things that I tried to help give you was courage. Courage to be yourself. Courage to stand up for you and for what was right. You need some of that now. I want you to be happy because as your friend- as someone who genuinely cares about you- I think you deserve to be happy. I think you should let him try to make you happy.

Have you always been so wise? You’re excellent at giving me courage. We might have had our roles shift when it comes to each other, but you still have a very important place in my life, and you’re still the best person to go to. I... I messaged him. Invited him over for dinner tonight so that we can talk and I’m going to try and be honest about everything I told you. (Though maybe minus the present tense I love you on my part with you, I kind of doubt that would go over too well....)

That’s true. It’d be a good way to decorate your place, depending on how generous people were with the flowers. A gavel could be exciting but you’d really have to play it up, make it dramatic and find a quote to go along with it.

Remember that girl I took to the prom this year? Well, not long after I ended that…I wouldn’t have even called it a relationship.  Anyway, I have been helping Burt out at his tire shop and she brought her car in. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that she said about how she was going with some friends on vacation and she was asking me to join her as well, then started trying to cuddle up to me. I’ve broken up wit people before and I know the way to let someone down. She clearly didn’t get the message.

How’d you end up handling it? Ignoring her is a good way to give her an indication, even if it’s not the kindest thing you could do.

I definitely think that new and uncertain can pan out. Dalton was new and uncertain for me- and for you. McKinley was new and uncertain for me. Coming back to Lima was new and uncertain. Things are going to work out. I am happy with Jeff. He makes me feel good. Does Dave make you feel good? Because maybe he’s supposed to be who you get your chance with.

New and uncertain is terrifying. New and uncertain can lead to steady and happy and crying in a bar bathroom because nothing turned out the way you hoped for. I’m glad you’re happy, Blaine, I really am. You deserve it. He... he does. He does. He’s sweet, he’s kind, he’s absolutely nothing like the man I met years ago and everything like someone who could make me happy. Just more scared than I ever thought I would be.

I think I’ve heard that! Briefly, but I’ve heard of it. You should get into theatre just so you can get that tattoo. Seems a lot more epic than most of the lawyer tattoos that you could get.

Yeah, but there’s not much to do about it than just move on and deal with things. Yeah, but if it wasn’t and people say it’s harder than French, then I’d be done. Glad to have the most difficult one down. I can say the same, it was the most difficult class. Worse than math.

Totally a useful thing to tell people when they’re going through things. “Just move on and deal with it.” I wonder if people who speak French as their mother language would say the same. Worse than math, worse than a picky home ec teacher, worse even than Spanish and I only lasted a semester in Spanish.

I… um. I think that feelings are hard. I also think that if you don’t take chances sometimes, that nothing will ever change. Like, if you don’t take a chance with Dave, you will never know what might have happened and I don’t think that it’s something that you want to throw away. The way I feel for Jeff is different than you and me. One is a new, wavering, uncertain thing, and the other is older and mostly solid. They’re too different things.

You... make a very good point. Maybe I’ll try talking to him. See if we can work this out before I just swear off dating altogether. Do you think new and uncertain can pan out? I don’t know. I mean... I do have fairly strong feelings for him, and they could very easily be love but... it’s not what I feel for you and that’s the only thing I have to go on. I’ve never loved anyone else, not in a romantic way, so I don’t really know if what I’m feeling is enough to say the words. Is how you feel about Jeff different?
