[Michael taps his toes against the floor, swiveling the chair as Jeremy moves over towards his dresser and pulls open a drawer. He watches as the other starts taking things out, and studies each one until he takes out the next one.]
[First, a pair of stuffed rabbits holding each other... one of Jeremy’s mother’s projects.
Second, a framed photo of Jeremy, younger, with his parents– all smiling. Jeremy sits on his father’s shoulders, pointing excitedly at something out of frame.
Next, a book, but Michael doesn’t get a good look at it, because then Jeremy pulls out something better.]
We missed a lotta birthdays, but... I hope this makes up for at least one of them.
[Then, with a grin, Jeremy offers him the camera. Leah's camera.]
[He almost wants to reach out and take it and never let it go, but he hesitates. After Michael's neglect of their friendship for 5 years, he's just going to give this memento to him? Sure, Michael saved his life (more than Jeremy knows right now), but...]
I- I can't... are you sure?
[A smile on his lips, Jeremy rolls his eyes. Michael pushes himself up off the rolling chair and takes a step towards him as he speaks.]
I'm not gonna use it often enough to warrant keeping it.
[He offers the camera to Michael once more, holding it out closer to him this time.]
Plus... anything you take would come out a lot better than the amateur shit I could put out.
[Michael glances between the camera and Jeremy for a second before gently taking it. He lightly snorts out a laugh when Jere praises his photography. Michael thinks to himself with a smile, but doesn’t respond yet out loud. Yeah man, boost my ego.]
[Jeremy then looks away, towards the floor.]
My mom would want it to be used... and years later, I've used it less than a dozen times.
[He looks back up quickly, though, and says with a smile,]
[Michael starts to repress the sad thoughts about Jeremy's mom threatening to surface with the other's words, but they're overtaken anyway by mock-offense when Jeremy tells him not to break the camera. He lays said camera down on the desk for a second to gasp dramatically with both his hands.]
I would never. I'd rather break myself before I ever broke another camera on my watch.
