A young Ludwig stepped away from his music with a sigh, sticking his head out into the hallway. He had been disrupted (as usual) by some rather loud argument his siblings had gotten into. Heâs found that if he, as the oldest, doesnât intervene, somebody ends up hurt. Panic spiked through him when he saw exactly what was going on. Roy had their newest brother, Morton, pinned against the wall, sneering and screaming in his face. Morton was only three! Did he not understand what sort of mental trauma could be caused by this?
Ludwig shot down the hallway, ripping Royâs hand off of his brotherâs throat, catching Morton with his free arm so he wouldnât get hurt from falling on the stone floor. Roy took a few steps back, surprised by Ludwigâs sudden appearance, but quickly recovered, crossing his arms in annoyance.Â
âWhat was that foâ?â he growled, narrowing his eyes at his brother through his sunglasses.
ââWhat was that forâ?! Roy, do you even realizing what youâre doing?! Oh, for the love of-heâs three! His brain is still developing! You could be mentally scarring him! Donât you have anything better to do than harassing children?â
Roy and Ludwig stared each other down, Mortonâs screams and sobs had subsided to occasional sniffling as he watched his brothers anxiously.
Finally, with one last snarl, Roy turned around and stomped down the hallway, yelling and cursing.
Ludwig then turned his attention to his younger brother, fixing his arms so he was carrying him properly. He started towards the clinic so he could have his bruises and scrapes cleaned. This wasnât exactly the cleanest part of the castle, and he didnât want the wounds getting infected.
âLuu-ig?â Morton slurred, rubbing at his face while looking up at his brother. While he had learned to talk a while ago, he still struggled with his eldest brotherâs name. Ludwig didnât particularly mind.
âYes?â he responded, glancing down.
Ludwig raised an eyebrow at the question, face scrunched in confusion at his brotherâs question. âBecause youâre young. Youâll get bigger as you get older.â
âBut Roy picks on me because Iâm small, so itâs easier for him. What if Iâm never bigger than him, even when Iâm older?â
Ludwig shook his head and smiled, wiping a stray tear off Mortonâs face. âBelieve me, Morton, when you get older, I bet youâre going to be the biggest of all of us.â
He certainly wasnât wrong.

W OW OKAY SO This is over a month late and I hate myself for it, but happy (really late) birthday @nendotaku! Iâm really sorry for my hiatus and procrastination! I remember once you made a post long ago about Ludwig being a supportive older brother to Morton when he was younger and much smaller than the others. So I decided to write something for that. I hope you like it!
