Does Iceland Accept Me into the Family
Uncle Iceland is a quiet man of little words who likes to be left alone most the time. He does not like kids so you can guess how finding out I was part of the family went. One day Norway was on the phone with Iceland talking about Mackerel and checking to make sure he is okay since a volcano was showing signs of going off.
Iceland had eventually asked if anything knew had happened in Norway's life. Norway: Hmmmm... Owe yes I met Sweden's new little sister. Norway: She is a real sweet girl. Iceland: Spits out his coffee and starts coughing. Iceland: Norway did you say Swe has a little sister since when. Norway: I am not exactly sure I never asked but it was very recently that he adopted her.
Iceland: Great that means another annoying kid joined that family. Iceland: Isn't our family big and crazy enough. Norway: Come on give her a chance she is a very sweet special needs 7 year old girl who was abandon by her family due to she was not born a boy like her parents wanted. Iceland: Sighs reluctantly but then says fine I will meet her and see how it goes. Norway: Thank you little brother.
Iceland: Ya, Ya, now call me back when you and her are on your way. Norway: I will call Sweden right now and see if he will let me pick her up so you two can meet. Later when Grace wakes up from her nap that Norway knows she takes daily. Norway: Rings Sweden while sipping his coffee on the porch swing. Sweden: Hallå Norway may I ask why your calling.
Norway: Yes I am calling because I wanted to see if I could take Luka for a little bit if she is up from her nap because I convinced Ice to meet her. Sweden: Let me see if she is awake and if so then I will help her get ready hold on. Sweden: Walks up to see if Luka is awake. Sweden: Luka sis are you awake. Luka: Ja big brother do you need me for something
Sweden: Uncle Norway wants to know if you want to spend some time with him soon and he is also gonna take you to meet his little brother your uncle Iceland. Luka: OOOOOO!!! That sounds fun I will get ready. Later when Norway arrives Luka is downstairs waiting with a medical bag and some snacks plus a drink for later. Luka: Walks out the door. Luka: By big brother Sweden I see uncle Norway. Sweden: Be careful and be back before dark.
Norway: I will bring her before dark Sweden bye. Luka: Gets in the car and buckles up with bag on lap. Later at Iceland's. Norway and Luka get out of the car and walk up to Iceland who is sitting on his porch drinking coffee. Iceland: Looks up with ugh I don't like kids look. Iceland: So this is Sweden's little sister. Norway: Yes her name is Luka she is 7 and special needs. Luka: I like your silver hair. Iceland: Owe um thank you.
Iceland: My name is Iceland, come sit down with me on my porch it's a very nice day today and you can even see fish in the water near my home. Luka: Walks up and sits down. The landscape is nice and covered in grass, with sheep and cows in the distance. Iceland's home is blue and green with hints of yellow. Purple flowers decorate the flowerbed.
Vegetables: Like Potatoes, carrots, turnips, and rutabaga are staples of the Icelandic fall harvest, Kale, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower thrive in the cool climate, lettuce, spinach, arugula, and chives.
The see near his house is calm, blue with puffins flying over the water. Iceland: Mumbles ugh kids. Norway: Walks up to Iceland and pulls him aside. Norway: Luka please stay where you are. Norway: Iceland what the hell are you doing I heard that mumble. Your not going to be standoffish and act like she is annoying are you. Iceland: Maybe why you know I don't like kids.
Norway: Give her a chance she got ready and is all excited to meet you plus you the last of the Nordic 5 family to meet her so go and give her a chance now. Iceland: Fine I will give them a chance. Iceland: So Luka my name is Iceland how did you meet Swe. Luka: Hmm owe (sighs) My mama and papa put me and my kitty out in the snow because I was not a boy like they wanted. I guess they never loved me.
Iceland's eyes go wide like something inside him is changing. Norway watches this to see how it all turns out. Iceland puts his coffee down and bends down looking Luka in the eyes. Iceland: Sweetie its not your fault that your parents kicked you out of the family. Iceland: You are special, you are loved, you are not the reason your parents did what they did. Iceland: What they did was wrong but your safe here with me and the rest of the family. Luka: Drops her bag and hugs Iceland. Norway: Mumbles to himself this is going well
Luka: Cries. Iceland: Shh, shh its okay cry it out kiddo. 5 minutes of crying later Luka sniffles and gets up sitting back in her seat. Luka: I love your garden. Iceland: Owe why thank you would you like to see it
Luka: Nods. Iceland and Luka walk to the garden and he shows her all the vegetables, starches, and even some of his herbs, he even picks some and hands them to Luka. Iceland: Go on try it. Luka: Tries it. Luka: mmmm its so yummy thank you. Iceland: Your welcome. Iceland: Walks inside and tells Luka follow inside. Luka and Norway walk inside. The house is decorated with creams, whites, blues, and shades of yellows. Lots of viking posters on the wall, paintings of puffins, preserved flowers all over the place and many ingredients to bake food plus yarn to make sweaters with on his favorite chair.
Lukas: Eyes sparkle. Luka: Wow I love your home. Iceland: Thank you. Iceland: I don't normally invite many into my home but you are welcome make yourself at home. Luka: Walks around and looks at everything. Luka: Did you paint these birdies. Iceland: Hu he says as he closes the fridge where he was getting Luka and Norway a snack. Iceland: I did paint them. Iceland; I love to go take my coffee and paints to the shoreline early mornings when are very active. I can capture the best of those whimsical, strong beautiful birds during this time.
Iceland: Places the snacks on the bar counter by the kitchen. Iceland: I got you guys some snacks. Luka and Norway both sit down and the bar, say thank you and start eating. Iceland admits: You know Luka I thought when you first arrived that you were an annoying kid due to I normally don't like kids. Luka: Stops eating and looks down sad. Norway: Nudges Iceland isn't there something you want to tell Luka. Iceland: Looks at Luka. Iceland: But your a sweet girl and I look forward to getting to know you better. Luka: Uncle. Iceland: Hesitates for a bit then says call me Uncle Iceland. Luka: Hugs Iceland. Luka: UNCLE ICELAND!!!! Norway: Whispers. Norway: Thank you Iceland
