[sbk-writing-zine]

The SBK writing zine is a zine dedicated to celebrating the amazing authors in the sbk community! Similar to the way special editions of books will have the main story with interspersed artworks of the characters, each kingdom will have a writer and an artist who will write a fic about a kingdom, then draw the characters from the fic.

The goal is to create an AO3 collection to send in the Skyblock Kingdoms Community Discord, with the art being posted on Tumblr. Artists and writers may post their works individually after the zine is completed. As a result we will be following creator rules regarding content, so long as the rules in question can be easily found.

(Note this is not the mods taking a moral stance on rule breaking content in fandom spaces, just that this zine is meant to be shared in creator spaces so it and it's discord will follow those rules.)

Writers are expected to write 750 to 3k words in their fic, but that is a soft range and can be discussed with the mods individually. 

Artists are expected to draw both island partners together in some way inspired by the fic, either the designs if they're different from canon, or a scene from the fic. 

Applications will begin on July 12th and close around the 19th. The goal will be to have applications sorted and responded to by the end of July, with the creating period being a minimum of beginning of August to beginning of November, with extensions going up to January if necessary. 

SBK Writing Zine Applications

After the writer deadline, artists will have an additional 2 weeks for finishing touches after the fic has finished.

While this zine planning started before the information came out about Marma1ade and Avidmc, we want to make it clear we do not support their actions and stand with sbk. It is difficult to remove their influence from all of sbk, especially with writing, so mentions of them are not banned, but please keep their involvement in your stories to a minimum.

We will not be including Birch2 and Doak2 in this zine because they were on the server for too short of a time for their characters to become fully developed, and mods feel as though it would be difficult for writers to get a solid grasp of the characters without drawing entirely on other series or headcanons.

I always love stumbling upon fanmade merch but I realized there’s a lot on Ko-fi and on a person’s specific shop so it’s not always the easiest to find and I thought it’d be fun to collect them all in one area!

I’ll post both content creator and fanmade, and you are free to send asks + DMs if you’d like to be posted and I’ve missed you!

I’m going to start by posting shops / merch I know that is released right now. I personally am aware exist that are currently open, I’ll try to tag the characters they sell (for fanmade) but it may get longer than intended and I may resort to tags exclusive to this account as to avoid flooding the main tags.

I am not obligated to reply to rude DMs and asks! I reserve the right to deny anything that makes me uncomfortable!

Hermitcraft Craft Zine Artist Sign Ups

We are accepting six artists into the zine! One for the cover page and 5 for the specific craft categories we have!

While a portfolio is not required, it will aid your chances on getting into the zine!

Descriptions of the categories below the read more:

Each artist will be working closely with their category to create a piece that represents those creating in them.

Cover Page: The cover page will be something that represents the whole zine and not just a specific category! The more inclusive the better!

Book Work: Book work includes those who are working with either creating including but not limited to book binding, or paper work

Jewelry Work: This includes people making jewelry in all sorts of different ways including but not limited to beading or wire wrapping

Fabric Work: Fabric work includes but is not limited to those who are sewing, and making patterns for the zine

Yarn Work: Includes but is not limited to those who are knitting, crocheting, or otherwise working with yarn.

Misc Work: This category includes a variety of works that we couldn't fit into one category but wanted to include in the zine either way. Misc work includes but is not limited to: Food Art, 3D Stuff, or Sculpting.

MCYT Movie Night Event

What is the MCYT Fandom Movie Night Event?

Good question!

This will be a collection of fanfiction, podfiction, and art, all in one event (possibly including animation). Similar to a big bang, but not quite. Fanfic writers will write one piece of fiction, prose of their choosing in one of the fandoms that mods will mod for, podfic peeps will read the fanfic out loud, and artists will create one piece of art for the thumbnail of the podfic video. If we get enough animators in the event, should it go forward past this interest check, animations will be done with 1 second of animation per animator at 5 fps.
