OOC: Hiatus. Like, ridiculously long.

So I suppose you are wondering why I have not been here as often as I would like.

Well, if you couldn't already tell from some of my rather 'depressing' OOC updates, things have been rough in my family.

Long story short, I've been kicked out of my house and forced to move back home to The Empire State. I'm getting lots of support from friends and friends of the family, but... It's going to be very rough from here on out, especially since I am only 20 years old...

So if you don't hear from me at all... It is because I no longer have the time or patience to run this blog, as I will be trying to live and support myself...

“Never thought what…?”

It was time. Now was coming the day where her life may be on the line now. Did she dare trust Tsunpo and get on the motorcycle with him…? Or would she refuse and be on her merry way, living a… “normal” life for a celebrity. 

With the paranoia of being slaughtered roaming through her brain should she refuse, the singer nodded slowly and slid herself upon the soft cushioning of the motorcycle, delicately placed in front of her music producer. Her small stature was in striking contrast to his muscular build. 

Normally, she would feel flustered being this close to Tsunpo. But the deep dark forboding of the events to come completely washed those feelings away. And the idol could only lower her head and dread upon what was in store for her now.

The thought popped into his head that it would probably be easier and less painful to kill her here and now, make it look like a terrible accident… but he has made a promise, whether it was ever spoken or not. Who would he be if he took the easy way out now?

Speaking as quietly and evenly as he could without the risk of not being heard, he made his attempt to explain the situation as he maneuvered the motorcycle out of the narrow alley. “This is, I’m afraid, not what you are expecting. This is something that is far beyond my control. For once, this is not a decision I can make. I can infer you’ve already guessed that this has nothing to do with that song we wrote?"

When they reached a wider road, he opened the throttle and could no longer make conversation as his voice was whipped away by the wind and the noise of the engine. It was somewhat awkward to drive with the girl sitting in front of him, but as long as he could see where he was going there was no problem. For now, he had a few minutes to gather up what he had to say into precise, coherent sentences. “I never thought it would be this hard," he said softly, without the intention of being heard.

Before long, at this speed and taking as many shortcuts as possible, they arrived at their destination. It was much too dark to take a look at the surroundings, and there was no chance that Otsuu had memorized the route to the Kiheitai ship, which was another point in her favour. Another point he was unlikely to be able to convince Shinsuke of…

Bansai stopped suddenly in front of the ship, killing the engine and plunging them into silence. Well, silence for Otsuu at least; nothing was ever silent for him. But he could not bring himself to admire the dread building up in her tune as he waited for her to ask what was going to happen next.

The idol paid no attention to the road ahead of her. Her mind was already dwelling on the events about to unfold before her to take note of the route leading to the headquarters housing one of, if not the most, infamous radical terrorists groups of this day and age. 

"No, I already know this has nothing to do with out song..." She muttered. She had spoken almost as softly as he had. She had no doubt in her mind that he probably hadn't heard her, either. Especially since she knew he had trouble hearing (trouble?) her even when she spoke in her normal, energetic tone. 

When they had finally breached the ship, the singer hopped off the motorcycle, with a melancholy expression. Quite the contrast to her usual self, but who could blame her? Her life was on the line, and the man she loved was the puppet master pulling the strings. 

"Now what...?" She muttered again, hopefulyl loud enough for him to hear.

When the android girl appeared in the room before her, the idol could only raise her eyebrows. She was absolutely beautiful - flawless, even. Her hair, her skin, everything about her deemed radiant. Otsuu was baffled at how a woman could be so beautiful. Though it was common knowledge that an idol should - at least - appear beautiful and perfect by nature, this woman already had that and she wasn’t even an idol yet!

“Nice to meet you, Tama. So, you think you’ve got what it takes to be an idol?!” Otsuu perked up and smiled warmly at her. Looks were one thing, she wanted to see if this girl had the kind of spunk and cuteness that an idol should also have.

“Pleased to meet you too. You must be Miss Otsuu.” Her mood and tone were as chirpy and  as she could manage, not having done anything worth of note that far.

The android then looked at the girl: a pretty and young girl, definitely more plain compared to the fantastic descriptions Shinpachi always made about her, but knowing him and how overly enthusiastic he was, this was to be expected. But even compared to what she had observed about her on television and the magazines Catherine sometimes left lying around the bar she did look different.

Of course it wasn’t just the lack of stage make-up, it seemed more like a whole different something, but it would have been difficult to pinpoint exactly what it was.

“As for your question, I think I can manage to pull out whatever kind of stunt I’m requested to do. My purpose is to do anything in my power to make them happy or, at least, to fulfill their wishes, so if what they want from me is to be able to dance, sing and entertain the public, I’ll do whatever I can to comply with their requests the best way I can.” Tama replied with a more monotone tone of voice.

The idol's smile still remained as she looked at the android girl. She had such polite mannerisms, it was unbelievable to the girl. Perhaps it was because Otsuu really had no shame in anything she did, but either way the young woman - er, robot woman - couldn't help but strike her as precious. 

"Well, how about you sing for us then? That's the most important part about being an idol!" She took her seat back beside Kagura, who was picking her nose obnoxiously; her leg propped up upon the coffee table within the Yorozuya household. "Such a slob, as usual", the singer giggled.

She didn’t dare ask about the helmet. Asking things with Tsunpo was ridiculous. She would either get a vague answer or he would just ignore her question completely. Either he’s actually really deaf, or he just chooses not to listen to people on whim. 

But even so, the idol obeyed his words and made her way to the Oedo Records building, in the dead of night. Usually, she would dread such a decision since gangs liked to surround the area at night, but she knew that if Tsunpo was there, then the gangs probably would retreat anyway. Because what is more terrifying than an actual terrorist, breathing down your neck in the wee hours of the morning? Yet Otsuu was going to see such a man… 

All right, I’m here…

Was the next text she sent while she twiddled her thumbs and gazed around anxiously at the dark, damp alley behind the building.

He felt his phone vibrate twice in his pocket, but there was no point in checking his messages, as he was already almost there. Otsuu had arrived much sooner than he’d expected. He had been expecting to get a response in the morning, but this was much more convenient. The cover of darkness would make travelling across the city much simpler.

Shortly after Otsuu reached the alley, Bansai motored out of a back street, screeching to an abrupt stop only a few feet away. He didn’t bother killing the engine and climbing down to give the idol a proper explanation, only motioned for her to take a seat in front of him.

“I know this is very sudden, but I will attempt to explain along the way.” He hoped his quiet voice was audible over the roar of the motorcycle’s engine; it was very difficult to tell with headphones on. “I always feared this day would come, but I never thought…”

The idol phenomenon in Edo has finally reached its peak; more newcomers are debuting and cute girls have been lining up outside the Oedo Records building in hopes of one day achieving fame. And just becoming an idol has become far too simple, as the entire scene has flourished more into a ploy for money rather than a simple love for music.

Otsuu-chan had noticed this, of course. Though the girl was only at the tender age of 18, she was slightly unnerved by this revelation; considering she had been out in the streets performing day in and day out, while girls these days are transformed into idols within minutes as long as they’re adorable. But nevertheless, the purple-haired girl enjoyed performing with Kagura, who was to accompany alongside her for the time being. Though rude, lewd and just downright grotesque, the little Yato girl had something most girls these days didn’t - spunk. And Otsuu admired that. She even picked up the habit of picking her nose from time to time.

However, one fateful day Producer Sakata approached Kagura and Otsuu, to inform them that there was yet another girl who would accompany them on the road to idoldom, but not just any girl.

“Not a human, not a Yato… I wonder what she is then?”

Otsuu blinked at her new ‘producer’ as he stepped aside the reveal the new idol…

“My name is Tama, pleased to meet all of you. I’m here to do my best, and I hope I won’t disappoint you.” the android bowed and introduced herself to the people in this overly formal way since Mr. Gintoki had been very vague about what to do, the only thing he said about the whole thing was “Make sure to make a good impression”, a sentence that demonstrated, if there was any doubt about it, that he wasn’t exactly very knowledgeable about what to do in a case like this, to put it kindly.

When Ms. Otose asked him why he thought that she could have been a good choice, he said something about how Tama already had her own incorporated autotune and could have made the best playback exibitions ever. After that sentence the android, Catherine and the old lady sighed almost in unisone, clearly having reached each one on her own the most obvious conclusion about Gintoki’s skills.

While at the beginning Tama had some doubts about the whole thing, since after all technically she was still hiding in the snack bar - one thing was walk around in Kabuki, the other become a relatively famous singer - but in the end Gintoki managed to make appeal to her sense of duty and her will to help people and convinced her to at least go and try out an audition, if only to meet the girl she was supposed to give a hand to, this Miss Otsuu she often heard Shinpachi talk about.

So, after a quick visit to a clothing store, where she asked for a dress that would have allowed her to make a good impression and came out with a relatively elaborated and fancy kimono, Gintoki took her to the building of the Oedo Recording and introduced her to these unknown people. And so here she was, bowing in front of them with her over-formal kimono and manners.

The idol was baffled. Was Tsunpo just making up silly excuses again, or was something seriously urgent? It was hard to tell with this man. In fact, it was hard to tell anything with him. Normally, she would just shrug off his enigmatic behaviour, but this time she was trembling in her boots.

She knew about his other life. She knew she had to keep it a secret, and there was always that deep dark sense of foreboding racing in her heart - the day where she would have to pay the price for what knowledge she did have. But nevertheless, the singer remained faithful and kept her promise to keep his identity. Because she considered Tsunpo her friend, and she would do anything for a friend.

It’s alright, don’t worry! I’m ready to meet up with you whenever… Just tell me where to meet you.

Such was her reply. Not as chipper as her replies usually would be, but it would have to suffice since no other words had come to her mind. It was already in shambles - paranoid about the events that were about to unfold next.

The reply seemed unusually plain. Did the girl understand already that this was serious business…? If so, this would be much easier.

There was no point in sending a roundabout message this time, when he knew Otsuu was waiting at her phone and the message could not be inadvertently overheard by anyone else. He quickly texted,

Meet me behind the Oedo Records building. Ensure you are not followed.

It sounded much too distant and commanding, he thought, hesitating before sending it. Eventually he decided on what it was missing:

I am afraid there is very much to worry about, and I will try my best to explain. Also, if you happen to have a helmet, you may wish to wear it.

It still sounded terribly formal, but it was difficult to kick that habit. He hit send, took a moment to reorganize his thoughts, and started his motorcycle’s engine, wondering briefly why he never wore a helmet himself. It was too awkward with his hair and headphones, he concluded as he slowly drove back onto the road and chose the longest route possible to the meeting place.
