Ask Pastel Paws

Hi! I'm Pastel. I'm an earth pony, I used to travel around a lot with my parents but now I've settled in Ponyville. Feel free to ask me questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

You may have realized I haven’t posted here for quite some time. I've pretty much decided to stop working on this blog but I hadn't let you guys know yet because there was something I wanted to do first, which I’ll explain below. (long sappy post follows)

When I first designed Pastel Paws I was in a point in my life where I was trying to decide between two of my passions and based on that what I wanted to do with my life, either my love animals for animals and my goal to care for them by continuing with trying to become a vet, or art by changing course and doing something less stressful that also made me happy.

Pastel, being to some extent a simplified version of myself ended up representing that conflict and in some way helped me understand myself and what I wanted.   

Shortly after reviving the blog I designed Purple Heart, who I loosely based on my own “crush” (something I’ve kept to myself until now) and I decided to use this blog partially to tell a story that kind of parallelled my life in relation to that. I never really got to that (largely because it’s difficult to describe something as complicated (and sometimes chaotic) as real life love and relationships in a world as simple and carefree as the MLP world. There have been lots of other reasons for not continuing this blog of course, mainly just wanting to focus on other things. Anyway before I actually finished this blog I wanted to allow Pastel (and Purple Heart as well) to find the kind of happiness, love and relationship that I am yet to experience.

[Hey guys, sorry for the hiatus, no colouring on this one just because I wanted to get it done quickly (otherwise I might have ended up putting it off even more) and also I don’t think colour is super necessary for this. I’m probably going to try and stick to a schedule of putting out a post every 2 weeks.]

[Sorry this post isn’t coloured. I realize its been a while since my last post on this blog (due mainly to being busy) so I wanted to get this done sooner rather than later. Also this is the last story post before a few new character’s I’ve been wanting to introduce will appear]

If you could travel to any zebra tribe, which zebra tribe would it be?

[Firstly I want to make it clear that I was not trying to suggest that this is the village Zot is from, that’s not my place, and as far as I’m aware Zot is very unique even amongst other Zebras, I was just thinking it would be funny if there was a group of Zebras similar to Zot. In case the sandwich thing doesn’t make sense to you, check out Ask-Zot

I had a lot of fun drawing all the different Zebra’s for this. The two at the end kind of naturally became fire and lightning themed (and I’m pretty happy with the “KISS” themed pony at the back of the classroom]

“I don’t feel too good”

[Hey guys, just a bit of an update here. You may have noticed I try and post every weekend and this past weekend I wasn't able to do that, the reason for that was I was quite busy and so I planned on getting the next post done a little bit later but then I was sick as well so that really drained my energy and I couldn't motivate myself to do any art. I’ve done a sketch for the next story update but I think I need to break it up a bit more so I’ll be doing another Ask this weekend instead.

If you follow me on my main blog you’ve probably seen my new style of drawing and colouring ponies, I’m considering changing up the style here to be more like that, just so that its a bit more unique.]

Sorry these probably aren’t as good as the asks I do, but I want to get the story to a certain point before I do more asks, and that’s probably going to take another couple of “Pastel’s Story”s. Once that’s done, the story sections should be more interesting anyway. I tried a new thing with the text since I don’t like speech bubbles taking up too much space, I meant to give the text a black outline but merged layers to soon so it may be difficult to read]

[Not much happens in this one but it leads to more interesting stuff, and the full story would have taken much longer to finish. It is the first appearance of one of several recurring OC's that will be appearing in this blog, in this case Purple Heart. And also I think the first time Pastel's nervous paint leaking thing has been shown]

A FRECKLE FIRE POUNCES IN TO ACTION! WHAT DOES PASTEL DO?

[Been working on this for a while, had a lot of trouble trying to get the last frame look playful rather than looking too intimate, but I think it turned out okay, Next post will be the start of Pastel’s story, also I really appreciate any asks that get sent in, they don’t necessarily have to be questions to Pastel, they could be just feedback on the blog.]

[I've been quite busy over Chinese New Year, and the ask I've been working on has taken a little bit longer than I thought it would, but I had this idea to draw Pastel as a goat for the year of the goat/ram/sheep, so I thought I would post that in the mean time.]

[To those that don’t know, Zot is a zebra OC that has an unhealthy obsession with sandwiches. Ask Zot is a really funny blog that I highly recommend]

((I actually am a Chinese Lion Dancer, so Chinese New year is a really busy time for me, the year of the horse starts on Friday and my team has a bunch of performances starting tomorrow, so with that, as well as starting Uni, and Ponycon AU this weekend I may not have much time to work on drawing answers for the next couple of weeks.
