just wanted to collect my thoughts on severen’s relationship with jesse. it’s my favorite relationship in near dark because it shows a submissive side to sev that no other character brings out in him.
as chaotic as sev is, he still asks jesse for permission to decapitate caleb.
sev doesn’t agree with jesse’s decision to give caleb a chance in the clan. but he doesn’t fight jesse over it. he just pouts and sulks.
when jesse wants to break into a van after they burn down the bar, severen says allow me and smashes the window for him.
when the police come for them at the motel, sev only tells jesse to wake up. sev seems to need jesse beside him whenever a real fight goes down. maybe he only trusts jesse to be capable of protecting him.
when they enter the second motel room, severen stops the door from closing on jesse. such a small detail but i think it’s sweet.
when homer brings sarah into the room, severen glances at jesse first to see his reaction.
he also glances at jesse again when diamondback approaches sarah. sev’s always careful to assess jesse’s reaction to every situation, especially when tensions start escalating.
during the fight in the motel room. sev constantly glances at jesse to gauge what level of violence jesse wants him to commit. does he just want caleb restrained or does he want caleb killed? sev’s clearly willing to do either. or both. both is good. but he waits for jesse to give the okay first.
when caleb escapes with his family, jesse tells severen to grab caleb and sev tries his best even though he’s literally burning in sunlight to do it.
and let’s not forget that promo pic where sev is kneeling at jesse’s feet and jesse has his boot on sev.
i don’t think there’s any kind of master/servant bond with the vampire and the one they turned in the near dark universe. mae rebels from homer first chance she gets, despite homer having been the one who turned her. so i really think sev being so obedient and loyal to jesse is truly just in his nature, not anything supernatural or forced. which means it’s canon that sev is willing to burn in the sun just to please the ones he loves. i’m gonna cry.

But yea it ain’t ‘cus he made me who I ‘m, ‘nd it definitely ain’t ‘cus ‘m bein’ submissive ta him (‘cus I ain’t submissive AT ALL), it’s ‘cus he’s like a papa ta me like how Di ‘s a mama ta me. This ‘s my family. ‘Nd ‘m loyal ta my family. I may be a psychotic son ofa bitch, but I do care ‘bout ‘em very deeply.

OOC: In the original script floating around online, one of the scenes that got cut REALLY proves how far he's willing to go, and almost gets toasted hardcore during a police chase scene. Part of me wishes that scene could have been included, then the other side would probably have been irked for having my heart leap outta my asshole and heart sink twice in the movie.

Something to Hold You Over
Hey, everyone... So I got a few questions in the ask box that I've been wanting to answer, but the writer's block is a bit strong still. That being said, I thought I would share the answers from a character analysis POV after dissecting the hell out of the movie - including watching the movie from each of their perspectives multiple times. My apologies if it's not direct character responses.
There's been a lot of questions about Severen in regards to relationships, so here is just my two cents from what I gather.
Summing up all the questions:
It's hard to gather from the movie what his relationship status is. I would say he is more selective. VERY selective, to be frank. Being alive for so many years, one sees a lot of things - including what they want in the rest of their unlife.
I don't see Severen as the type to just lock it down with anyone right off the bat. It would have to be something developed over time once he starts seeing more of them and their personality, etc.
In regards to would he be into a Baby Firefly-esque partner? Hard no. That kind of personality would not only agitate him , but they would also be a high level risk to the clan. Sure, Severen is pretty chaotic in the scenes during hunting time...but he's also VERY calculated. From seeing him in the scenes where he's more just vibing with the other clan members at the motel, personally I find this is his most neutral state. The chaos is for intimidation or just for shits and giggles.
Severen would be more apt to go for someone level headed and just as calculated as him. Someone who can be their own person as well. All the clan are individual identities all moving together as a whole - each a different piece to the puzzle of their nuclear family. He wouldn't gravitate towards drama - they ain't got time for that.
I'll probably add more to this, but here's a little something to hold you over for the time being.
I know he's an absolutely abhorrent character, but I, unfortunately, still want to fuck him. hope this helps!!!

I've been up to my ears in creative endeavors outside of writing, whilst dealing with a bit of writers block...ugh. I'm starting to shake the funk off a little, so writing works will be coming soon. There's LOTS of amazing inbox requests I will be getting to - thank you for sending them! I apologize for not getting to them sooner - I just didn't want to rush and give a half-ass, out of character piece for y'all. The Last Ride
The rays of the sun created a warm white light through the dusty barn.
Sun......SUN?!
YN sat upright with a start, chest heaving, whilst scanning the room.
Severen?! Diamondback? Jesse? Homer? Mae? Shitbug?......
SHITBUG.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"
Caleb took a step back, flabbergasted.
"I....I helped you...."
YN bit back an incredulous laugh the best they could as they swung their legs over the makeshift 'operation table' to place both feet on the ground. A sparkling chime of a rowel met YNs ears as they looked down to see the spur attached to their boot.
Severen's spur.
Mae attached the spur as a sweet gesture when YN was out cold, but the soft tinker of the rowel was like a haunting melody . This time the rowel sang the song of the haunting memory that felt like it happened ages ago, when in reality it was only mere hours ago.
The flames. The shouting. The screams. The overall anguish.
No amount of anything could ever burn those memories out of their mind.
YN looked at the transfusion bottles strewn across the floor before their eyes affixed on Caleb's with a glare.
"I HATE you."
Caleb had a sour expression as he tried to take in why wasn't YN thanking him for giving them the gift of humanity again.
"Hate?.... I....I don't get it.."
YN ran a hand gingerly over the spot where Severen had bit them during turning to find that the mark was no longer there. They then steadied themself before taking a step towards Caleb. Mae was nowhere in sight - probably with Sarah inside. Perfect.
"You took the last thing that kept me tethered to Severen..."
The clink of the spur started to sing a different tune, with the rowel tinkling in anticipation of what was to come. The sound reminiscent of what they would hear when Severen was on the prowl. It felt like he was there with them at that moment.
They knew he was there.
YN shook their head, looking at the ground for a moment and clucked their tongue, before looking up once in front of Caleb.
"So...you're human...I'm human...." YN started.
"Yes'm, that's right.." Caleb gave a shaky smile.
"That makes us both equal, yeah?" YN tilted their head, as if in thought.
"I reckon you're right." Caleb nodded, thinking he was in the clear.
He couldn't have been any more wrong.
With a draw as quick as a bolt of lightning, YN drew the Colt Single Action Army from the back of their waistband. The shot rang out and echoed throughout the barn.
"Bullseye."
YN smirked as they blew the gun smoke away before placing tucking the gun back in to their waistband.
Human now, hmm? Never thought they'd see the day.
"God created men, Col. Colt made them equal."
YN gave a small laugh before making their way to the farmhouse where Loy, Sarah, and Mae were at.
The chime of the spur singing a new tune as they made their way to the homestead.

“Yeah, I like flowers. Always did, even before Homer turned me. Used to pick wildflowers when I was a kid. Still think they’re beautiful. Shame they don’t last too long once picked.” She gives a sigh.
Diamondback:
“Mae’s right, Sugar. Can’t keep ‘em alive long in a trailer with this lot. Between the darkness and a certain someone likin' to bite everythin' they can. I do like a rose, though...especially the kind with lots of thorns. They bite back.”
Severen:
“Flowers? What, you plannin’ on takin’ me on a date now? I ain’t the bouquet type, sweetheart. Closest thing I’ve given someone’s a bloodstained rag.” He smirks and leans back.
“‘Course, if someone wants to pin a lily on me, I ain’t stoppin’ ‘em. Just don’t expect it to stay white long.”
Homer:
Homer snorts, looking up from his comic for a moment.
“I don’t care about flowers. They die fast. Pointless.” He then returns his gaze back to the comic.
Caleb:
“I dunno. I kinda miss ‘em. Sarah used to pick daisies for the kitchen table. Made the house smell nice. Guess… it’s a human thing.”
Jesse:
“Don’t got much use for ‘em myself. But I ain’t against ‘em. Used to hand Diamondback a few wildflowers every now and then when I found ‘em during our walks after hunting.”
Severen:
Severen snorts.
“Hell, that’s the sappiest thing I’ve ever heard come outta your mouth, Jess’ . Flowers? Next you’ll be singin’ love songs.”
Jesse:
Jesse cuts Severen a silencing glare.
“I could start by singin’ your eulogy, Severen.”
Diamondback and Jesse, dont you ever want some privacy from your ‘kids’? I mean, sharing one trailer has gotta be miserable on the ol’ sex life
Diamondback:
“Well now, sugar… that’s mighty bold of you to ask.” She leans back, crossing her arms.
“Let’s just say… when we want privacy, we make it happen. The others know better than to go rattlin’ that door when the lights are out.”
Homer:
“Ugh! I didn’t need to hear that! Can we not talk about this in front of me?! You're supposed to be the safe one and leave those kinds of ...THINGS...to come out of Severen's yap!”
Jesse:
Jesse rolls his eyes at Homer before shifting his gaze to Anon.
“Far as I’m concerned, privacy’s a luxury. We take what we can get, when we can get it. Ain’t none of their business what happens behind closed doors.” He casts a warning look at Severen, because of course he’s about to mouth off.
Severen:
Severen quirks an eyebrow, the cigarette now hanging loosely from his lips.
“‘Behind closed doors’? Hell, boss, I’ve heard the walls shake. Y’all ain’t exactly subtle.”
Diamondback:
“Keep talkin’, cowboy, and I’ll make sure you’re the one cleanin’ the blood outta the carpet next time.” She throws a wink at him and he goes quiet. Well, for a millisecond.
Severen:
“No manners on y'all. None. An' y'all talk about me.”
Severen can I pick you up and hold you
Severen:
He raises his brows.
“You again? …Oh, for Chriss'ake.”
He takes a long drag off his cigarette, exhaling slowly, and points at Anon.
“Lemme get this straight...you think you’re gonna pick me up? Me?” He laughs that low, gritty, dark chuckle of his that builds until he’s nearly doubled over.
Then he straightens, tilts his head, grin wide enough to show a toothy. All charm with a zest of bite.
“Oh, sugar, you go 'head an' try. I’d pay good money to see how far you get before I take yer arms off an' use 'em for drumsticks.”
He takes another long and lazy drag, looking way too amused now. “'Cause unless yer built like a damn shithouse, you ain’t liftin’ me anywhere. And even if you could...” his voice drops to a dangerous purr, “—I bite.”
Homer:
“Yeah, go ahead, pick him up... just make sure to drop him right in a dumpster.”
Severen:
“Careful, kid. I might let ‘em. After you, of course. Good ol' dumpster party.”
Jesse:
Jesse groans as the two start acting up again.
“Severen, if I hear you threatenin’ to maim another admirer, I’m gonna chain you to the bumper ‘til dawn.”
Severen:
Severen shrugs nonchalantly.
“Worth it. They started it.”
Diamondback:
Diamondback shakes her head, not even bothering to look up.
“Sugar, at this point you encourage it.”
Severen:
Severen pretends to examines his nails for a moment, before looking up with that classic smirk of his.
“Maybe I just like watchin' 'em try.”
Have u guys seen Twilight
Mae:
“Oh, I have! I thought it was… kinda sweet. Y’know, the whole idea of a vampire fallin’ in love with a human girl, tryin’ not to hurt her… it’s romantic.”
There’s about a three-second pause before Severen and Homer lose it.
Severen:
“Sweet?!”
He’s already doubled over laughing, cigarette half-falling out of his mouth.
“Oh, honey, that ain’t romance... that’s a PSA for abstinence with glitter!” He slaps his knee, still cackling.
“Vampires that sparkle in the sun?! Hell, I’ve burst into flames more gracefully than that!”
Homer:
“Yeah, and what’s with that sparkly crap anyway? If I start glitterin’, just stake me right then and there.” He folds his arms and shoots Mae a look.
“Romantic my ass. That dude spent four movies lookin’ constipated.”
Severen:
“Oh nooo, I can’t love you, Bella. I might accidentally bruise your delicate mortal flesh.” He pretends to brood dramatically and then drops the act, smirking.
“Please. If I wanted to drink from someone, I’d just do it. Ain’t no poetry in starvation.”
Homer:
“Complete and total disgrace to 'our kind'. Heck, they ain't even our kind! They ain't one of us!”
Diamondback:
“Now, I have seen Twilight, and I’ll tell you one thing...that boy Edward? He wouldn’t last ten seconds in a room with one of our kind.”
Severen:
“Ten seconds? You’re bein’ generous, Di’. He’d faint soon as you said hello.” He snickers.
Diamondback:
“Oh, please. Boy’s all lip and no bite. I’d scare the sparkle right outta him before he even figured out how to unzip that pious little jacket.” She throws him a wink.
Mae:
“I dunno, I thought it was kinda cute! He was tryin’ so hard not to hurt her.” She shrugs and gives a small, almost dreamy-like sigh.
Diamondback:
She puts up her hand and shakes her head with a laugh.
“Sweetheart, that ain’t tryin’ not to hurt her - that’s denyin’ your nature. There’s nothin’ romantic about pretendin’ to be somethin’ you’re not. Man needs to grow a set and a personality. Both of 'em, actually.”
Jesse:
“Y’all even mention Twilight again and I’ll leave whoever brings it up in Forks to burn at sunrise.”
Severen:
“What, you ain’t Team Edward, boss?” He snickers.
Jesse would you feed off of Severen
Jesse:
“Feed off Severen?”
He pauses, shaking his head.
“I’ve done a lotta damn fool things in my lifetime, but drinkin’ from that wild bastard ain’t one of ’em.”
He gives a short, humorless chuckle and glance over at Severen, who’s grinning ear to ear.
Severen:
He leans back in his chair, smug as sin.
“Aw, c’mon, Jess’. Ya mean to tell me you never got tempted? I taste like sin an' gasoline.”
Jesse:
“Exactly why I wouldn’t. I got no desire to get drunk off ego and bad decisions.”
Jesse looks at Anon.
“Truth is, I don’t feed off my own kind. Ain’t natural. Ain’t right. I been around long enough to know what happens when you start crossin’ those lines.” He casts a glance over at Mae and Caleb, who sheepishly look away.
“I made Severen. I don’t feed from him. I keep him.”
How would the Hooker clan interact with Wolverine? (If you know nothing about the character, you can ignore this)
(Author's Note: As a Canadian, myself - this was very delightful to write! I'm semi aware about the verse, but wanted to give it a go, anyway! If this is nothing like the character, please ignore my silly self. From what I do know about Logan from general comic knowledge, I tried my best to write for them! Thank you for the fun request and hopefully it wasn't a total let down! x)
Severen:
Despite Severen's testing nature, he would find Wolverine downright interesting. A fellow immortal being from the 1800s? His interest would be piqued, even if said fellow was from the North.
“Well, well, look what we got 'ere! A walkin’, talkin’ can opener! You some kinda circus act or somethin’, Yank'?”
He’d absolutely test the hell out of Logan. Poke at him, try to start a fight just to see how fast he heals. Once he realizes Wolverine doesn’t stay dead, he’s thrilled. This guy could be one of them if he plays his cards right.
“Oh, this is gonna be fun! So I can kill ya over an' over, an' you jus' keep comin’ back for more? Yer like a damn wind-up toy for psychos!”
Cue a violent, gleeful brawl that destroys several motel rooms before Jesse steps in and breaks things up. Severen would also more than likely have respect for Logan as well, especially if he challenges Severen instead of backing down to a certain degree.
Also, you bet Severen would give him a nickname like 'Wolvie' or 'Sideburns'.
Can you say begrudging drinking buddies?
Jesse:
Just because of Jesse's past with the Civil War, more than likely he'd be skeptical of trusting Logan. Although, there’d be a mutual understanding between two men who’ve seen too many battles, too many lifetimes. “You and me, we’re both relics. World’s passed us by, son.”
Lowkey mutual respect, no nonsense, no friendship... just an unspoken acknowledgment between predators. Jesse still would have defenses up and not just openly welcome Logan in to the fold right away.. Old habits die hard.
A soldier like him, albeit in different wars, he'd recognize the survival instinct in Logan as well.
“I’ve met soldiers like you before, son. Only difference is, you never stopped fightin’ your war.”
Two men who outlived everything they ever cared about.
Homer:
Homer absolutely can't the thought of newer males coming in to the clan possibly. Another guy to contend with? No chance. Instant jealousy. Eventually that jealousy would fade into something more of idolization once around Logan a bit longer. Homer would probably admire Logan.
“Oh great, another old guy with a healing factor and anger issues. Just what we needed.”
He’d hate Wolverine immediately for getting all the attention and would probably try to prove how dangerous he is, only to get tossed through a wall.
Diamondback:
Diamondback would probably feel drawn towards Logan. In a sense she'd probably get kinda the same vibes as she gets from Jesse, albeit she would react moreso in a sisterly way than a potential partner way.
“I get it, sugar. The world took too much from you, didn’t it?”
Mae & Caleb:
They'd probably see him as a tragic figure, someone caught between human and monster like the both of them. They also would probably invite him to join the clan so he wouldn't have to face the years alone, knowing how lonely the life could be for people like them.

Jesse:
Jesse just sees it as a way to survive. Nothin' more, nothin' less.
“Regret’s a human thing. Waste of time. You live as long as we have, you learn that killin’s just breathin’ with teeth. Just a means of survival. The only way of it. But…” he pauses for a moment, “once or twice, I’ve put down someone who didn’t quite deserve it. Folks who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Still didn’t lose sleep over it. just stuck with me longer than I liked. In the end it's all about survival.”
Diamondback:
Diamondback sees it as just a way of life. It is what it is. The past still comes back to haunt her though if the person tends to remind her of family.
“There’s always a few that haunt ya, Sugar. You don’t mean to, but hunger don’t care about your conscience. I’ve seen people die who reminded me of my sister, my mother. I don’t cry over it, but I remember. That’s enough. No use cryin' over somethin' that is simply jus' the circle of life.”
Mae:
Mae still clings to a part of her humanity, as much as she tries to bury it deep down.
“I do. Every night. Sometimes I can still see their faces. The ones that screamed. I didn’t want this… but once you’ve tasted blood, it’s like drownin’ in yourself an' you can't stop. It sustains you. Hate when humanity creeps in, but...eventually that fades.”
Homer:
Homer is pretty nonchalant towards that kind of thing. Comes with the territory, and time kind of made him go numb.
“I’m a kid forever, so people never see it comin’. So yeah, maybe once or twice, I felt bad. For a second, if that. Then I remember what they’d’ve done to me if they knew what I was. It makes the regret go away.”
Caleb:
Still fresh to being one of their kind, every single one haunts him and he still finds himself reluctant to hunt and not have the aftermath of guilt.
“Too many. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody when I turned… but it’s not like you get a choice. That first kill stays with you forever. I try not to think about it. Hell, all of them still get to me.”
Severen:
Not one known to have any regrets, ever...it's shocking what comes out of Severen's mouth. Everyone is taken off guard.
“When I first turned, didn’t know what the hell I was. Thought I was dyin’, thought maybe if I held her close it’d stop. She was screamin’, bleedin’, I just...” he clenches his jaw, knuckles white as bone. “I couldn’t stop. Tore her apart before I even realized what I’d done.”
He laughs, but it’s hollow.... bitter....before looking away from Anon.
“There...that satiate ya?”
Severen gets up from his chair and goes to walk off on his own somewhere.
Diamondback:
“Don't mind him, honey...when he first turned...it wasn't the greatest, let's just say. He never talks about it.”
