Let me explain why I love this.

This isn’t just their most powerful bending moments (or for Sokka, sword). It’s also some of their most powerful emotional moments.

For Zuko, this is where he’s standing up to his father. He confronts him on the day of the eclipse so he doesn’t have to face the full wrath of his abusive father. Then Ozai stalls, and shoots lighting at him. And what does Zuko do?

He redirects it. He shoots everything right back at Ozai. There’s no going back from that. He’s officially distances himself from his father, from everything he stands for. Zuko has chosen morals over power, and escaped an abusive situation. That takes power, that takes bravery.

For Katara, she’s going against everything she stands for to save her friends. She’s doing the unthinkable, the impossible and why? Because there’s nothing more important to her than the people she cared about. That takes strength.

Aang is also going against his normal morals here. He hates fighting, but he gives his absolute best for the fate of the world. He is deadly and a force to be reckoned with. But seconds later, he still saves a life. That take compassion

Sokka isn’t just showing his sword tricks here, he’s fighting a man he admires because he’s too valiant too back down from a fight. He’s done being insecure here, he’s done only fighting for others. He serious. He bounces back from what seems like a failure. That takes resilience.

And Toph? She’s been kidnapped by people hired by her parents. She’s seen as a lost little girl, a blind helpless child. This isn’t about bending, this is about her earning her freedom, once and for all. That takes a lot of valor.

This isn’t about physical power. This is about the team maturing as a whole, defining moments in their character arcs. The physical power is symbolic. And that’s why this show’s so beautiful.

Depending how you see this scene, Toph is either resisting the interdimensional pull of a vortex Wan Shi Tong opened to transport this MASSIVE building or she is SINGLE-HANDEDLY holding the entire thing up from one of its SMALLEST TURRETS

Literally no greater amount of Earth has ever been manipulated so solidly by an Earthbender on screen. Toph is holding the ENTIRE EDIFICE SECURELY IN PLACE WHILE ONLY TOUCHING THE TINIEST TIP OF IT. WHAT A POWERHOUSE!!!!
