(Continuation) Minutes prior to evacuation.. - “Mom, be my dance partner!” - 2

She was reluctant at first, to see her child so eager to just...move. Even after being dogpiled. Then again, it was a relief to see Viridys rebound.

Judith looked surprised. And rather nervous. Dancing wasn't really her cup of tea. Hell, anything like this was a whole new ballgame for her.

"Mom, come on!" Viridys chimed, snapping her mother back to reality. She frowned somewhat at her mother's silence. "Pleaaaaaaaaaase!!"

The mage let out a small breath,

"Viridys." She started, "You know I can't dance."

"That's ok!! I learned a dance from the Tara banquet! Just follow my lead, and everything'll be ok, mom."

Judith felt the blood rush away from her face for a moment, and was ready to say no as Viridys positioned the two accordingly to start. Hands around shoulder, waist...Arms proper. Keep stature relaxed...

"I-I don't think this is a good--"

"Mom, trust me on this." A smile crossed the brunette's lips, "We'll be okay."

Unable to choke out another word, the two had began to turn around the icy ballroom floor.

In that moment, for the first time that night, everything felt completely alright.

And moments later, their dance had been cut short by a sickening crack, followed by larger flecks of ice from above.

Minutes prior to evacuation.. - "Mom, be my dance partner!"

Viridys had successfully distanced herself from the other three and obtained her slip for her final partner. Upon receiving, she had discovered it was blank.

"No name," She mused. "Must be a fluke or something," Within seconds, she'd shrugged it off. Naturally it'd be a pain to start a ruckus now, she thought. What with the night almost over... Viri let out a short breath and rubbed at her arms. This place was cold, she really should have considered wearing something warmer. She'd put on the scarf from Maxene as soon as she could, but she feared the color clashing with her greens. She made a mental note to dye some of her clothes blue when this was done. Her wardrobe needed some variety anyway.

Seeing everyone else dance, though, made a feeling of loneliness brew in the pit of the abomination's stomach. But...

Her eyes lit up, and she chased after her mother with a growing smile.

"Mom! Mom, please wait!" Eagerly, she had groped for Judith's wrists like the child she truly was. "Mom, let's dance! Let's dance! Please dance with me, mom!" Viridys sang her request excitedly--not like she'd give her mom much choice-- as she guided her mother into the center of the ballroom. She wasn't big at many dancing, though she did know some slow, formal moves fit for occasions like this thanks to people-watching at banquets in Tara.

"The night's almost done!" She chimed, "And we're both really shaken up. Why don't we just enjoy this and then maybe grab some food before we go home?" Viridys smiled up at Judith, having actually enjoyed the night. She'd met so many nice people, and had so much fun! Everyone was so nice, too. Reflecting upon everything, this was one of the greatest nights in a while...

As she thought this, she felt a few flakes fall from the ice above. She'd brushed it off for now, thinking it was nothing but aesthetic for the last event.

"I-it's n-nuh-ni-nice to m-m-muh-meet you a-a-and all, p-p-Pi," Viridys took a sharp breath in to maintain what composure she had, "B-but I'm Viridys, not XeroaaaaaaaaAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaI'msorryaaaaaa" She shivered from embarrassment, squirming out from under the red man and failing to get to her feet whilst continuing to make that odd 'aaaaa' noise.

Viridys swallowed her pride and wrapped her arms around the medium-sized box resting against her chest, hoping to whatever Gods remained that this was her partner.

"E-excuse me..."

She'd spent a bit too much time diddling around for her liking, and a bad feeling had started to brew in the pit of her stomach. "Erm...You must be Maxene, right? I'm so sorry I took so long to find you," She tightened her arms around the box, curling her finger against the delicately placed ribbon.

She took in an extremely deep breath of the cold ballroom air and held out the box. "P-please, accept this." To be found inside the box were a wide variety of gems in all sizes, and some were likely to topple out of the box upon opening. "I-I know it's not much..." Viridys scratched behind her left ear, "But surely you know someone who has a spirit weapon, or can use these for upgrades...Right?"

Viridys found herself standing somewhat stiffly as the red-clad male approached her- and even more when she realized this was intentional. A shade of pink creeped across her face and sputtered what seemed to be a 'thank you' as she finally processed what he was saying. Stunning, huh? She forced herself to keep from covering her face, finding herself playing with her sleeve to retain composure. Would her usual reaction to such a thing be frowned upon at a formal occasion? Probably. She took in a bit of cold air, finally smiling and giving a small curtsy.

"H-hello, Xero. I'm..Viridian. B-but everyone calls me Viridys. It's a pleasure to meet you!" Her eyes noticed the small slip in his hand and gestured to it with a now-curious expression. "..Are you looking for someone?" Mentally, she smacked herself. Of course he was looking for someone. Everyone here was looking for their partner, and she still had to find hers. Xero didn't really sound like 'Maxene' at all, so this guy probably wasn't them. Regardless... "If you need any help looking for them, maybe I can help?" A little bit of social interaction never hurt anyone, even if they were a little rusty with people.

Her partner seemed so...skittish? Nervous? Something. From Viridys' observation: Mistreil looked like she wasn't that thrilled to be at this event, and that made her feel a little bit bad. The brunette smiled some and put an assuring hand - hopefully that wouldn't be the wrong thing to do -  on her partner's head.

"It's nice to meet you, Mistreil. If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to let me know, alright? We're here to enjoy the night."

quick tired thing whoops but I feel this deserves a bit of an explanation and i'd like to apologize for putting this in the tag but in my half-asleep haze it feels a smidge necessary in case i don't have access to tumblr for a bit

Okay, over the span of the past few days there's been Christmas stuff. You know how that goes, you see family and you have to make sure everything is right and stays that way.

I've done that and so to speak my family's a bit more hectic than you'd imagine even if it is tiny as all hell so I've been an unmotivated mental and physical wreck the past few days and probably still will be for a few more to come.

On top of that my wifi's on the fritz and it's been out for hours at a time and resetting the router is only helping like 25% of the time, so any participation with the yule ball or anything else may be botched for a while and I feel like I can't apologize enough for that if anyone's unlucky to have to deal with me, but I will do my absolute best to get any participation in within the time alotted q_q)>!!!
