When I was in high school it was around 2005 back during the whole Freedom Fry bullshit, and I was of the opinion that the French were weak willed.

Fast forward to today after learning about their long and often bloody history, I have a ton of respect for the French. So it absolutely does not surprise me that they're the ultimate pragmatists when it comes to this kind of thing.

Ok, what will happen is, if you donate that $20, then yes, $20 gets earmarked to go towards child hunger. They absolutely will donate that money towards the cause. BUT, they will then take that money from you, put it into a large pool of money that they donate to child hunger, and then write that money off as a charitable donation FROM THEM. So that $10 billion corporation uses YOUR MONEY to get a tax write off FOR THEM.

Never, ever donate to big corporations, they are trying to make you feel better about their greed.

So I stumbled across this a long while back and I've kinda kept a copy around for various purposes, mostly because I HATE the starship numbering convention in Star Trek.

Like, don't get me wrong, in the Original Series they only had one type of ship so it's cool they all had the same prefix, but you can tell that when they sat down to create the Next Generation they put next to no thought into naming the various ship classes or how their prefixes worked.

Still reading? Cool. So let me explain why the NCC designation on every fucking starship doesn't work. First, they use NCC for both tiny little Defiant class escorts and giant Galaxy Class Battleships (don't come at me with that exploration cruiser bullshit). There's literally nothing to say that 23184 is a Defiant and 23185 is an Excelsior. If it's really a serial number, which is what they treat it as, then they don't need to paint it on the hull because no one uses it in the context of the show.

There is also a criminal lack of starships ever present in a given area. If the Enterprise really is hull 1701, then where are her sisters? We see a few scattered about, but not enough to fully flesh out a fleet. I understand there were budgetary and other limitations, but there should be at least a couple hundred ships of equal power to the Enterprise running around. Where are they? Do they look at some of the shenanigans Kirk and crew get up to, go "No thank you" and just fuck off?

I get that you can't always have huge fleets like in Star Wars, but you also don't want to give all your work to one ship. What happens to the galaxy if Kirk and crew one day don't come home? the B-team isn't nearly prepared for this crap.
