Jonathan Wace trying rename Robin was an incredibly creepy move, it was meant to flatter and at the same time destabilize her, rob her of her identity, make her more vulnerable to his abuse.
But choosing to rename her Artemis was a bad call. Wace does it to draw attention to her "chastity," to put her on the defensive about her reluctance to submit to the church's sexual norms and his own sexual abuse. Only he seems to have forgotten what happens to dudes who try to creep on Artemis. Bad things. Like really bad things. He uses mythology for his own ends, but he doesn't know or respect the mythology he draws from. (Neither does Mazu, with her misuse of the I Ching.)
Or he wouldn't have identified Robin as the powerful hunter, the protector of women, she who brings down retribution on rapists.
