Aspyre Productions rent the studio space out by the hour. There are many ways that artists can use the space. In this case, local filmmakers needed a space to shoot a music video. I was glad to be able to help.

They say that 80 percent of businesses fail within the first five years. Is it any wonder how? Imagine, you have a dream and a plan, and then you begin to implement it. That’s when you find out that everything is priced to make you fail. And I mean everything. And there are fees for everything. Let’s take #Cox internet for instance. Their business internet costs more than double what I pay at home. Surely I must get better service for the money? Nope. I get not even half the speeds I get at home from Verizon. They also claim a four hour down time during power outages. Not that they can even really control that. Of course this is all in the contract that you sign, so they don’t bother explaining any of that when they are doing their fast talking sales nonsense. So now we’re stuck with expensive substandard internet. Of course there wasn’t much choice. They were the only internet company running through the building. And Aspyre Productions will attempt to upload full size videos and photos at a whopping 35mbs. (That’s what Cox calls gigspeed) That’s just embarrassing.

Meanwhile, trying to get Aspyre Productions on the map is proving to be difficult. Literally. We have to “verify” our location on google in order to make most updates or get onto google maps. But We’ve tried several times to submit a video with no luck. There is only one option, which is to upload a continuous video, and it doesn’t work. The other option listed is to do a live video chat with a person who can help. Except that option when you click on it, goes back to the other previous video option. When I tried to explain this to customer service, they were unable or unwilling to help. Now I understand why congress needs to move forward with this antitrust suit I’ve heard about recently. Google has gotten to big to care about its customers. They obviously need more competition.

Then there is the insurance, the various fees, the unexpected expenses, the loans that I’ve tried desperately to avoid.

It really is no wonder so many small businesses fail. Everything is working against them from the start. Everyone is out to get every spare dollar they have. And they have to compete with giants on top of all that.

Despite all that, Aspyre Productions will prevail. We will not fail.

Aspyre Productions takes maternity portraits now. I have taken maternity photos before, but it wasn’t a particular type of photography I was invested until recently. Besides having a child now, which really is the greatest feeling, the main reason for my new interest in maternity photos is because I saw some photos recently that looked incredibly uncomfortable for the mommy-to-be, and I realized I could take great photos and keep the mother comfortable. A pregnant woman, eight months along, should not need to sit awkwardly on a wooden box. There are far more comfortable ways to go about capturing her maternity without it being uncomfortable. Anyway, that’s my plan. I bought this cute handmade bench with a puffy cushioned top, and it’s going to be great.

Today I prepped the main office for some paint at my photo studio in Springfield, Va. Aspyre Productions will start taking clients soon. It is intended to be a studio that the average creator can afford. Content creator’s in Northern Virginia that need a space to work might consider using our studio. If the rate is higher than is affordable for you, we may be open to partnering in a profit sharing venture.
