I don’t remember seeing any AA fans going into Spawn November with negativity. Spawn stans, overflowing with hatred and a desire to shit on anything related to AA, just did exactly that to AAugust. It’s really telling behavior from that particular part of the Spawn stans.

Just wanted to say.. The usage of the word ''delulu'' by antifans is hurtful, but the normalisation behind that word stings the same way as ''schyzo'' when its not just antifans using it.

It is inherently ableist. Using it isn't cute. Genuine, actual psychosis is not funny or a cute ''haha you're just delusional''

It paints the picture that people cannot see the difference between reality / fiction.

Regardless of what ''side'' you're on, please reflect on the usage of such words and who you may be hurting.

We're talking about.. A fictional character with complicated trauma- often a lot of the discourse just focusses on his trauma and tries to police people around it with superior morality.

Yet in the same breath, they will use ableist language to justify their feelings. It's quite hypocritical.

And if i see anyone going ''oh but ive had psychosis/ihave it so i can use it'' Being disabled yourself does not mean you aren't incapable of perpetuating ableism.

Love yourself a little more.

I think I know who you're talking about, and yes, this youtuber's content is all about hate on ascended Astarion, not about spawn at all. it's honestly so disgusting that, as a spawn fan (sorry, but I absolutely adore my pookie with his big eyes), I blocked this channel a long time ago. I want to see positive content, not endless hate.

same for me. i am spawn girlie too but i avoid this person. i prefer to watch AA youtuber, they are all about positivity and are a nice person. i'm sick of seeing nothing but hate in the fandom

So, Rooney said his reading of the character isn't considered significant, and anyone who interprets him the way they do is legitimate. He even supports the interpretation that AA is a healthy relationship. I think that's all that matters.

Yeah, but antis aren't exactly known for being capable of that kind of nuance. That would require at least a little objectivity and good faith, and, unfortunately, those tend to be in short supply. Rooney's comments about the relationship being "toxic" were based entirely on the power imbalance between Astarion and Tav. I've never denied that there's a hierarchy in AA's world. That's literally part of vampire lore. The problem is that all of his arguments were framed through the lens of real-life relationships, when we're talking about a fantasy relationship with a vampire, not a real person. Honestly, I also can't help but feel that, for some people, the mere idea of a white male character being the dominant partner is enough for them to label the relationship "toxic." I'm saying that because I've seen plenty of comments along the lines of, "I'd love AA if he were a woman." And, by the way, vampire lore itself makes it clear that a vampire bride isn't equal to her creator — but they not a slave either. The text explicitly distinguishes between the two. Rooney also said something that I think people keep overlooking:

"Just because I wouldn't choose that ending doesn't mean it's a bad choice for someone else."

To me, that simply means it's not the ending he'd personally pick. Nothing more. The only part that actually bothered me was when he said:

"I wouldn't want that kind of relationship for myself."

But... who, realistically, would want a relationship with Astarion in real life? It would be incredibly complicated and potentially traumatic. Most sane people would've walked away the moment he held a knife to their throat during your first meeting.

A real-life relationship with Astarion would be like dating a dangerous criminal while hoping you'd be the one to change him — not to mention all the obvious risks that come with that.

The truth is, you can't simply "fix" another person. Real life doesn't work that way, and the statistics back that up. Astarion isn't just an innocent traumatized victim, and not everything about him can be explained by his trauma alone. That's why I don't think comparing him to real-life relationships is particularly useful. His redemption arc — the whole "I can save him" story — is fantasy. It's basically a fairy tale. Applying those dynamics to real life misses the point entirely.

The other thing that bothered me was how leading some of the interview questions felt. At times it honestly sounded like certain words were being put in Rooney's mouth instead of letting him answer more naturally.

It's honestly fascinating to watch someone ask for respect while showing so little of it in return.

You say people should be free to express their opinions about Ascended Astarion. I agree. Everyone has that right.

But then, in the very next breath, you say:

"I don't hate AA, I hate some delulu's around him."

So, which is it?

Yet you're perfectly comfortable saying you hate a group of fans because you consider them "delusional."

That's not criticizing a fictional route anymore. That's talking about real people.

You also say:

Absolutely.

Calling people "delulu" isn't a disagreement, though. It's a label. It's dismissive by design.

You say:

"If you don't like me and my content, you're free to block me."

That's true.

But that logic works both ways.

If you genuinely dislike AA so much, why spend years returning to AA spaces? Why keep commenting on AA posts? Why keep making content centered around a community you clearly don't enjoy being around? (Yes, I'm talking about the Ascended Astarion tags that you intentionally add to your so-called "analysis" posts.)

No one is forcing you to engage with AA fans.

You also ask:

"What about Spawn fans who want to freely express their thoughts?"

Of course they should.

Nobody is saying Spawn fans shouldn't exist or shouldn't talk about their preferred ending.

The issue has never been criticism of Ascended Astarion.

The issue is when criticism slowly turns into mocking, labeling, and constantly provoking another part of the fandom.

There's also something else worth mentioning.

Please don't try to paint yourself as the sole victim while openly associating with people who have repeatedly engaged in harassment, stalking, or targeted campaigns against other fans. If you choose to support or stand alongside people with that kind of reputation, don't be surprised when others question your consistency.

People have memories.

This didn't start yesterday.

Many people have watched this behavior for years, across multiple platforms.

And finally,

If your message is genuinely "don't hate players over fictional choices," then maybe don't end it by saying you hate a group of players.

Because that's exactly the contradiction people are pointing out.

No one has to like Ascended Astarion.

No one has to like Spawn Astarion.

But if we're asking for respect, maybe it should go both ways.

I just want to rant a little, if that's okay. I used to send in rants like this to other blogs, and the admins would usually post them... but I'll totally understand if you decide not to publish this one.

Honestly, I'm so tired of these endless wars between UA and AA fans. And from what I've personally seen, it's usually the first group starting the fights, or maybe they're not even actually UA fans at all, who knows.

You can love your preferred route without constantly trying to demonize someone else's, but apparently that's too much to ask for some people.

I liked that the writer ultimately didn't want Astarion to become mortal again, saying that it's not what Astarion wants throughout the entire game. And that's true. Throughout the entire game, Astarion wants to ascend and stop being a spawn. That's obvious.

I'm all for spawn Astarion, but honestly, I'm really glad Rooney partially confirmed the Bride Theory by saying it was discussed. It's beautiful, and frankly, it was clear even without this confirmation that Tav isn't a spawn simply because in D&D, anyone who receives vampire blood, no matter how much, is no longer a spawn. This really doesn't need confirmation. I am happy for all AA fans

The whole Rooney interview is complete cringe. Just imagine how much AA antis want to prove something to AA fans and how dependent they are on their opinions that they decided to harass Astarion's writer, pester him, and ask him highly biased questions, interrupting and telling him what he should answer and what they want to hear from him. The whole cringe is that these people look insane, trying to prove that they're reading the character "correctly" this way. In reality, they don't care about spawn Astarion. They hate AA fans so much that the whole interview was done just to spite them. And that's the funniest thing. Because AA fans don't care, as we can see.
