The (other) Loneliest Sweet Potato
After Sabrina Benaim
I’m tap dancing lonely with a poet at the grocery store because I feel sad. Sad because no one will ever love me enough. Everyone loves me but no one would run away with me. And I’m good at making people feel good but no one ever stays. I make people feel good because I tell them what I need to hear the most. Remember to love yourself first and others second. I say to remind myself it’s okay to be selfish with my love. I have friends and I know people but then I still feel lonely. I get lonely and I am uncomfortable in my lonely. Maybe if I was prettier I’d have more friends or a boy who would want to stay. Leafy greens and sugary cereal because healthy is happy and colored marshmallows are energetic. A debate between parrot and a rabbit makes me cry. Crying makes my eyes dry. I settle for the Cheerios because they are safe. I’ll sprinkle sugar and say your name three times and that’s it. I pass buy the flowers and remember yours are dry and dead. I buy some for myself. For a job well done.
