AstoriaFest Update August 31
Hey guys!
Originally I planned to post a round up of the fest today, and encourage everyone to check out all the amazing work we have posted together. I still think you should do that, but as a few creators (myself included!) are behind on our posting, I’m going to give an extension to see if we can get in our posts in the next few weeks. This was always intended to be a chill fest, so I’m hoping people feel encouraged and supported to post late if that’s what they need to do!
I do want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your amazing fanworks! I haven’t had time to read them all, but I am incredibly excited by your combined creativity!
Fic: Going Home
Title: Going Home Author: Eldabe/Eldarwannabe Fandom: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Rating: Gen Characters: Draco Malfoy, Scorpius Malfoy, Astoria Greengrass-Malfoy Notes: The marble tile floors in the entry hall are completely borrowed from Ekaterin’s modifications of Vorkosigan House in the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. (Which is brilliant, you should read it.) Summary: “There is nothing more that can be done here,” Draco said firmly. “I am taking my wife home.”

For August 30th, here is a story about Astoria's last days and how Draco navigates his changing relationship with Scorpius.
Draco and Scorpius both keep a portrait of Astoria close to them - one in a golden pocket watch and the other in Astoria’s old locket (given to Scorpius after her death).
Dedicating this to the lovely @eldabe who’s been such a constant support. And for @astoriafest (cause she deserves all the love ❤️).
@the-eighth-story shared a beautiful portrait of Astoria that Draco and Scorpius keep close.
A family day at the beach serves to remind Draco just how much he loves his beautiful Astoria. She was his siren among the seagulls.
This @astoriafest painting kinda accompanies my short fic Shouting at Seagulls that I wrote for drastoriafest- it creates context (and it’s adorable).
For August 28, @minervasprout gave us Theo beautiful painting of Astoria, to go with their fic!!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Fic: Four Last Dances

Three times Astoria dances with her family, and one time they dance without her.
This fic was written for @astoriafest and beta’d by @abradystrix.

“Astoria. Astoria Malfoy.” Daphne dances her way through the crowd and takes hold of Astoria’s hands. “I’m so happy for you! My baby sister, a married woman.” She grabs Astoria round the shoulders and crushes her in an enormous hug.
Astoria laughs in sheer delight and hugs her back. “I know. I know. I-I can’t quite believe it.”
Daphne pulls back and shakes her head. “You may not be able to believe it but I can. And you deserve every bit of this happiness.”

For August 27th, @torestoreamends gave us another beautiful Drastoria fic!!
For August 24th, @clemandben has written Grief, Acceptace and Everything Between on AO3! Check it out and give it ❤️.
Astoria
[@astoriafest so sorry I forgot to post this yesterday! here’s my ficlet!]
The windows were all Astoria had of the outside world. A rain-stained, dirt washed layer of glass that was supposed to protect her from the danger singing in her blood.
She was eight when she learned to breathe air carefully, that too much could end up her downfall. She was nine when she understood that the strawberries-and-cream her mother always brought her were a delicacy that Daphne couldn’t have. It was only for her, because her days were already numbered, because she had to experience the world while she still had that luxury.
Astoria lived her life through swirling potions that gave off fragile scents from another life. She felt fragile. Every time she stood, she wondered if this would be it, if her blood would have eroded away at the marrow of her bones and they would snap as one, sending her tumbling to the grounds.
She was an enigma to the healers, who looked at her like a crown jewel — a sorrow to her mother, who wished she was normal — a half-sister to Daphne, too pale, too fragile to be a full-sister.
Astoria was glass, and she knew it. Fragile just beneath the skin — living in her blood — and painted pretty colors to hide her weakness.
When her parents let her attend Hogwarts, Astoria thought she must be dying quicker than they’d anticipated. Why else would they let her out of the house?
Astoria had no idea why she was sorted in to Slytherin. Nobody did. Her ambition dwindled with each day death drew closer, with each morning she woke up and almost passed out a second later. Things felt impossibly pointless for her. Death was more of an inevitability for her than anybody else, even though it would come for all of them in the end.
Astoria was fifteen when they told her she had 22 years left before her own blood destroyed her completely. She laughed when Draco Malfoy spent hours rhapsodising about pure blood, about how they — the Slytherins — were superior.
She watched from her armchair in the corner of the Common Room.
Pure blood had done nothing except give her a death-date.
Astoria was sixteen 21-years-until when she stopped celebrating her birthdays in the normal way. She wasn’t counting up in giddy happiness like most. She went backwards, because she had the mark of her death to haunt her instead.
Despite the curse, Astoria did her best not to dwell over the lurking that waited so black and heavy. At least she knew the time she had, as long as she was cautious in her frailty.
So Astoria lingered carefully on the outskirts of the war, careful not to draw too close in fear that the spells would chip off her paint and shatter the glass. She watched from a distance, the fight over blood status, and she laughed with her absence of humor.
Blood status.
Because she, Astoria, she was barely even a pure blood anymore.
Instead she was cursed blood, destined to destroy herself.
Destined to die.
For August 22, @loganaa-fic has give us this fascinating look at Astoria's childhood and revoking with her own illness.
I want to highlight this fic as not Drastoria-focused, because I like that we also get to explore what Astoria was possibly like as a character independent of Draco. Check it out!
Astoria cut her hair the day before her wedding to Draco, just so she could see the looks on her in-law's faces as she walked down the aisle.
A painting of Astoria to fill up the last unclaimed day in @astoriafest! (And because I had a painting frenzy yesterday and am thinking of several as Astoria (my other painting is coming on the 28th!))
For August 20th, @minervasprout gave us the gorgeous panting of Astoria!
August 19: Fic Rec Post
Fic: Enter Astoria, With Her Hair About Her Ears
Author: Nomsy
Link: Archive of Our Own
I truly believe this fic is an underappreciated classic of the Cursed Child fandom. Honestly, I wouldn't even read the rest of my rec post, it’s a waste of time, go read the fic. It is perfect and beautiful and deserves so much fandom love.
In case my glowing recommendation isn’t enough for you, I’ll tell you why this fic is perfect, and I will try to avoid spoilers.
This fic takes the few things we know about Astoria Greengrass Malfoy - her background, her age, her sister, her illness - and builds a compelling, believable original character. One of J.K. Rowling’s strengths as a writer was to make deeply flawed, sometimes frustrating characters. I think it’s one of her strengths that translated less well to the stage, because we don’t have the same chances to see the flaws of characters in the subtle ways of literature.
Enter Astoria embraces the flaws a character might have, if she was born in a high-class, bigoted society but was casually excluded from it for an illness she has had since birth. We meet an Astoria who is sickly, not attractive, who finds herself mostly alone but for her sister. Thus Astoria becomes an observer of the society she should be a part of by right. She doesn’t care about anyone except for her sister, who is treated with more nuance and care than most Daphne fics. Astoria is a Slytherin, and she is embodies many of the flaws of Slytherin house, cruel and cunning and superior. Daphne becomes Astoria’s moral compass, a hard task for a teenager who is subject to the scrutiny of the bigoted and harsh pureblood world Astoria carelessly avoids. It might not even have been a big deal, if they hadn’t been so unlucky as to be at Hogwarts the same years as Harry Potter, and had the wizarding wars crash into their lives.
And then Draco enters the fic. If anything, the story shines all the more for bluntly treating Draco as the deeply flawed character he is. Draco is cowardly and selfish and all the things Draco is in the Harry Potter world… and he loves Astoria, in his awkward, sweet way. Watching their romance unfold is a pleasure. It’s even amusing at times.
Astoria grows up in this fic, from an isolated child to an adult, with friends and desires and love, real love. This is the only fic I found in the fandom that cuts to the heart of how she and Draco went from not planning for children to having Scorpius. It’s perfect, really, you should check it out.
If all that hasn’t convinced you, this fic has one of my favorite lines: “She can’t believe she’s turned into a sappy mother who thinks her son is the greatest child in the world. Though obviously, Scorpius really is the greatest child in the world.”
Instant classic.
This fic is a one-shot, and I found it by digging and digging and digging in the Draco/Astoria tag on Archive of Our Own. It should be a fandom classic, an ode to everything we know about Astoria and everything Astoria could have been. Instead it’s been quietly unknown, posted the very early days after the publication of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with (at the time of writing) only 730 hits. Give it love. It deserves it.

“Have you taken your medicine today?”
Astoria tries hard not to wince as Daphne pulls the vacant garden chair out from under the table with an awful metallic scrape and sits down.
“Good morning, Daphne. How lovely to see you today. Yes, I am well, thank you for asking.” Astoria takes a sip of her tea, looking coolly at her sister over the rim of the cup.

Astoria Malfoy (*1982 †2019)
for @astoriafest
Born in March 1982 as Astoria Catherine Greengrass. Her elder sister Daphne was delighted to have playing companion. Their parents loved her dearly but had secretly hoped for a male heir to continue the Greengrass lineage. Born into one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, one of the oldest, truly pure-blooded families, Astoria and Daphne were brought up in the ideals Pure-blood supremacy.
At the age of elven she received her Hogwarts letter. Upon arriving she was sorted into Slytherin, like her sister two years earlier. Astoria enjoyed going to Hogwarts and did well in all her classes. In her fifth year at Hogwarts Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters took over. As a member of the Sacred Twenty-Eight she had nothing to fear. During the Battle of Hogwarts, she was evacuated from the castle for being too young to fight.
The events during the Second Wizarding War made her embrace a more tolerant life view, abandoning some of the pure-blood values, and stop regarding Muggles as scum.
After graduating Hogwarts Astoria started dating Draco Malfoy, a former classmate of her sister. After two years of dating, Draco proposed to her and the two married in the summer of two-thousand-and-two. Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy disapproved of their son’s choice, finding her too muggle-loving, but he stood up to both of them and took her as his wife. They were married in a small ceremony at Malfoy Manor, with only their closest and most loved ones present.
Knowing she was not destined for old age due to her ancestor’s blood curse, she longed for a child, for Draco to have somebody before she left. Their son Scorpius was born in 2006. His birth weakened Astoria considerably, and so the young family hid themselves away. Astoria refused to raise her son with the same pure-blood values as she and her husband were raised.
In the summer of 2019, her health began to deteriorate even faster than before. She succumbed to her blood malediction in August 2019 and was buried in the family grave at Malfoy Manor.
For August 14, @em-sea-kay put together this amazing photo set of Astoria's life. Check it out!
I have been lucky enough to see small pieces of it while it was being put together and I was absolutely blown away by this final project. ❤️
