this is killing me
Look, it’s a weird hill to die on, especially when I don’t really explain, but children deserve to experience fear, disgust, and discomfort in safe scenarios where they can process those sensations.
Media for children used to be scary and that’s important.
“Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.” ― C.S. Lewis
"Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed."
-- G. K. Chesterton
It's not a fun part of the movie when a character the kid likes dies, but they can experience loss without losing someone they actually know that way, and learn how to deal with grief in the future from how the protagonist is taught to deal with it. The real deal will still be way worse, but a 7 year old who's allowed to know what death IS is likely to grow into a 15 year old who can deal with their feelings when it happens.
Hiccup from the How to Train Your Dragon Books: I've nearly been eaten six times! Once not even by a dragon but by the man who would become my greatest foe who was planning to cut me in pieces and eat me raw. I was also assaulted and marked with a slave brand, forced to see my family and friends impressed into slavery, and got tortured by being dunked repeatedly in a freezing ocean that would have drowned or frozen me. Am I a joke to you?

@oyavaski i think the funniest part of this is you thinking that this is fake because.....some of us are the same age and we have normal tumblr names i guess lmao????
never thought i'd get accused of faking having a mice infestation for tumblr clout and yet here we are
you fucked those mice yourself
I fucked those mice myself
MAY YOUR DAY BE YAOIFUL ON THIS YAOI DAY EVERYONE 🥳🎉👨❤️💋👨💞
HAPPY YAOI DAY AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EVERY HORSE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE 🐴🦄🐎🎉🎂
Mouse, aged 3.5, has been requesting The Book Of the Earthworm as their toilet book, although I abridge it as I read aloud - maintaining interest and speeding the process up. This was summarised as “earthworms are slimy,”
“WHAT,” barked an outraged Mouse.
“earthworms are slimy.”
“Earthworms NOT slimy,” Mouse said carefully.
“If you touch one, you’ll find they are slimy.”
“Mummy,” Mouse said, needing some clarity, and betraying a faint concern; “earthworms is turn into pepperoni?”
“What?”
“Earthworms is salami? If you touching an earthworm, and it is turn into pepperoni?”
“Oh,” I said. “No. No. Slimy. Not salami.”
I think it's funny to do like goodness moral purity Olympics with vampires because like their baseline is already "they are serial killers who kill people nightly" so you're already starting in hell and trying to dig your way up lol
Well MY favourite serial killer feels BAD about killing people, so he's better than YOUR serial killer who dosen't feel bad.
i don't really like it when western mythological terms are applied haphazardly to essentially unrelated ideas. this is a completely lost battle but a lóng is really not a dragon, it is its own thing with only surface level similarities
i especially dislike many works that try to fold all sorts of different mythologies into a single consistent schema because they tend to heavily privilege western conceptions in doing so- see 'dragonology' books twisting basically every mythical reptilian under the sun into the mould of 'a species of dragon', implicitly centring the beowulf-style firebreather as the default from which all other mythologies derive, or basically anything that does worldwide vampire bloodlines
relatedly a qílín is not a unicorn, a fènghuáng is not a phoenix, and a jiāngshī is not a vampire, and it can impede understanding when they're approached from the standpoint of being the 'chinese version' of these concepts from western myth
the thing about concerta is that you have to mind what you're doing 30-45 minutes after you take it because if you're not careful you'll end up hyperfocused on something very dumb
thinking about diatoms again
microscopic living stars made of glass that eat the sun. and they're all around us. in every body of water. glass sun-eating stars.
I like them a lot. they produce up to half of all earth's oxygen. the air you breathe is thanks to sun-eating stars made of glass. and that's pretty cool.
and you know. like oblongs and triangles and some other bullshit
When I saw this photo I was sure it had been altered in some way, because no way you get so many different diatoms so artfully arranged on a slide. It's uncredited so I had to use image search and found out that all those tiny diatom shells were arranged by hand by W. Watson&Sons and photographed by Martin Mach sometime around 2000. One reblogger thinks it's from Contemporary Artistic Arrangements Of Microscopic Diatoms by Klaus Kemp, but it's 14 years too late for that. This photo has been circulating the internet since at least 2008. Klaus Kemp's arrangements are very beautiful though.
thanks for grabbing the source! hand arranging diatoms is such an underappreciated art form to me.....
its really unfortunate that padme no longer used the body double approach to security after aotc because the concept of the queen of fakeout deaths being married to the guy who loses his shit at the thought of her dying is honestly the wildest fucking thing and i think it's underutilised. let's give anakin a few trial runs before his big breakdown ok. maybe seeing padme getting assassinated live on space tv on a monthly basis will let him microdose on acceptance and inner peace. he can get into a different stage of grief each time and maybe when rots rolls around he will be fine
why is it so hot. why is it so hot. I am being punished.
I'm having my first 24/7 dom/sub relationship with the entirety of the fucking sun
Child Grace staring out his window wondering if aliens are real while Rocky was already waiting on that ship, pressed against a similar wall wondering when someone would come
I learned last night through personal experience that you can in fact fist a neopussy, and it made me realize that so much of the propaganda against bottom surgery, even the really small ways that "a neopussy isn't like a *real* vagina" are complete fabrications.
I get wet when I'm horny, I have a vaginal microbiome, it feels like a cis vagina to partners who've been with cis women, and it can take a whole fucking HAND.
I just want to remind folks that the medical technology we have available is amazing, and that there are people and groups out there that have a vested interest in making sure you don't know that.
If you're on the fence don't listen to the propaganda. At the very least talk to a post op transfem before you decide.
Neopussies are the real deal and I just want as many folks as possible to know that.
Nature is healing
I love when a poster tries to convince people they know what they're talking about by presenting bare-minimum academic credentials and nothing else. It's giving nothing.
Like sure I get that bachelor’s degrees aren’t shit, but I’ve gotten published in pop science publications talking about fields that have nothing to do with my degree. I know a linguist who’s written several articles about physics, a physicist who’s written about biology, and a my grandmother worked in computer science with a degree in American studies.
Understanding most topics on a surface level or even a bit deeper is just reading and doing math.
Least trustworthy pop science writer?
Linguist writing about physics
Physicist writing about biology
A new challenger appears!!!
Least trustworthy poster (revised)

Physics major posting about biology

as humiliating as it is to repost myself from a light-mode-user's reddit screenshot, i cannot allow this year's zenquish to go uncelebrated.
celebrate my favorite holiday with me, my friends.
if the emperors of rome can add extra months that actually fuck the calendar up i'm allowed to add a new month that lasts 0.0000 picoseconds
the last holiday that hasn't been commercialized
i made this up when i was a little kid and nothing would make me happier than to see people celebrating it for years to come
i forgot how much tumblr loves a fake holiday
