can you talk about padme & her views on religion in general / on naboo?

♚♚ The natives of Naboo (the Gungans) should be credited with the native religion of Naboo. The Gungans initially saw the land of Naboo as being the territory of the Gods (or Guds) and therefore built their civilisations underwater out of respect, this is what triggered a lot of tension between the Gungans and the colonising humans who built their settlements upon the land. 

The Gungans appeal to a variety of Deities who form a High Council (similar to the structure of Gungan society) and were generally portrayed as warrior Gods who would defend the Gungans against any invaders who wished them harm. The knowledge of their Gods comes from the blood of Kresch molluscs, which paints the tales of Oma-Oma and his council. 

The human colonisers of Naboo developed their own religion which also included multiple deities headed by the lunar Goddess: Shiraya. Monastic orders such as the Brotherhood of Cognizance were set up to focus on specific deities, and people would travel from across Naboo to the temple which focused on the Deity they most needed e.g. safety, prosperity, luck. 

Padmé followed the human religion of Naboo and held a particular affinity for Shiraya. The monarch of Naboo was said to be anointed by the Goddess herself during their coronation and elements of Shiraya can be found in the monarchical Nabooian dress (crescent headdresses, for example). Padmé would often turn to Shiraya in times of need and ask for the Goddess to help her through troublesome times both during her reign and her times as a senator. In order to pray to Shiraya three conditions must be met: (1) it must be night time, (2) you must be outside where the moon’s rays can fall upon you, (3) you must pray to an idol of the Goddess, even if it is only a crude likeness. This is the reason you can find statues of the Goddess and other Deities dotted around Naboo, and many households keep their own likenesses. Padmé herself had a statue of Shiraya set up on the balcony of her apartment on Coruscant in order to consult the Goddess on any decisions she had to make

Fire blazes in Padmé’s eyes, she was all too familiar with such comments. A man was ‘assertive’ or ‘commanding’, whereas a woman was ‘bossy’ or ‘lost her head’. Raising herself to her full height, the former-Queen raised her chin. She was not about to back down simply because one man could not handle an honest complaint.

❛ Lose my head, Admiral? ❜ she slips with ease back into her formal regal tone. Purposefully dictated to sound both authoritative and emotionless. ❛ I was unaware that criticising the Supreme Chancellor’s policy on refugees was considered ‘losing my head’. ❜

The compliment may have been simple -- and often repeated -- but Padmé doesn’t doubt it to merely be pleasantries when it comes from Sabé. A small smile curls her lips, tucking her chin down to disguise the expression.

❛ Well, I was thinking since it was a State Dinner and there will undoubtedly be a strong guard presence already then just the two of us should attend? ❜ she looked to Sabé for advice and guidance -- as always. ❛ That is if you would like to join me? ❜ 

Standing, the long drape of the dress floats gently to the floor. While glamorous, all of Padmé’s clothing was designed to be unknowingly practical. A hidden blaster always within easy reach, along with a few other surprises just in case.

Kind fingers splay against her lover’s chest, feeling the passion surging underneath. While she may have already confirmed her love for the man before her; she was woefully unprepared for the emotional downpour that would accompany that declaration.

♚♚ Bear with me, I’m gonna share something which is pretty controversial but is important to my Padmé: even in a verse where Padmé survives ROTS or where ROTS doesn’t happen, Padmé and Anakin would still break-up. That doesn’t mean Padmé would no longer love Anakin, or wouldn’t want him to be involved in their children’s lives. She would always want Anakin to be involved, she would always care about him and love him as a friend. They would always remain close (well, if Anakin wasn’t a Sith) and would co-parent the twins easily.

Okay, before you all unfollow me this is only canon on my blog and people can theorise different outcomes to their marriage crisis.

The way I see it is that their relationship has always been strained due to huge differences between them and a lack of time alone together. Anakin ruthlessly pursued Padmé towards the beginning of their relationship, but she did fall in love with him. Their marriage was real, their love was real. But the cruel reality is that many relationships don’t last forever. People grow apart, they fall out of love, they get divorced.

Anakin has always been dismissive of the importance of Padmé’s job (and for a woman who is extremely career-driven, that’s a devastating blow), not to mention he continuously accuses her of cheating with various other men and doesn’t trust her not to succumb to the attention of other men. He’s fiercely jealous and protective, and Padmé really doesn’t want to be possessed. That pressure bore down upon their relationship and I believe that Padmé would eventually have to say enough was enough and put an end to their marriage.

I’m sorry for any die-hard ani/dala fans following me. I do ship ani/dala, but only to a certain point. I hope you all understand this, I’ve been rather scared to post it.
