“ BECK ! ” evan called up to the first level deck as he emerged into the morning sun. they locked eyes, and she gave him a hopeful smile, raising the life jacket she held in her hands up and waving it like a white flag, “ put some swim trunks on ! ” she watched him nod and disappear back into the house as she tossed the life jacket into the back of the boat. a tiny speedster that was enough to cut up the peaceful waters–– the same model their grandparents’ had only much, much newer. still, she’d taken it on a test run to make sure she could run the damn thing before even bothering to hook a tube up to the back. it wasn’t ten minutes before beck’s footsteps could be heard coming towards her. “ i know we’re not fighting anymore, but consider this an extra olive branch, ” she nodded to the tube sitting in the back of the boat, “ a morning out on the water can be super cathartic when it’s spent trying your best to throw your sister off of a giant inflatable. ” she dangled the keys from her index finger, “ just like at gram and gramp’s cabin. what’dya say ? ”
things had seemed to clear up between the connely siblings and beck was undeniably thankful for that. occasionally, he did question the entire situation but it was now pushed to the back of his mind. for now, at least. after coming back out from changing, her offered her a soft smile. “just like gram and gramp’s?” he questioned, eyes narrowing as if challenging the comment, not quite sure there was much that could genuinely compare to that. “sounds like a good enough plan but i don’t want to hear a single complaint when you hit the water, alright?” he let out a quick laugh before making his way down to the dock with the boat on it. “you already test it out? or are we just winging this whole thing?” it had been quite some time since he’d even touched a boat. “i mean, whether or not we can drive this thing well, you’re still gonna end up fucked so––… just prepare yourself.” he moved to step onto the boat, immediately grabbing onto one of the life vests on the boat. “i think the most important thing is to get really good at this so we can show everyone else what we can do with one of these bad boys.” with that, his hand tapped the small glass screen in front of the wheel, a short laugh moving passed his lips.
