Astrid sighed, “I guess I’m just stubborn and didn’t want to admit it.” She squeezed his hand back. “And it’ll take a lot more than a kidnapping for me to lose you either.”

“Got that right,” Hiccup said with a smile. Him being here was proof enough of that. Dagur had taken him from his family but he had returned and Astrid was still by his side. Leaning forward he kissed her lips softly. “I love you.”

She smiled and and kissed him back. “I love you too.” She ran her fingers through his hair, “So what’s the plan for your lesson, oh great teacher? You going to woo them with dragon knowledge or wow them with demonstrations?”

Astrid smiled. She wished she could say she didn’t want to jump right back into where they were before, but she had to be careful about it for Junior’s sake. What kind of a mother would just jump the moment an incredible man comes back into her life? No, she had to make sure all of them were ready before anything happened. She didn’t want to make the same mistake twice.

She took Hiccup’s hand and smiled up at him, “You really don’t have to do that. I can always run and get something, and there’s baby food in Junior’s diaper bag.”

Hiccup laughed and kissed her hand. “Don’t worry about it and no you don’t have to go any where to get anything,” he said. “Besides what kind of a host would I be if I did not provide my guests with something to eat.” Giving her hand a squeeze before walking over to the fridge. “I have some froze pizza, I have something things to make sandwiches. I can whip up some pasta. I have some sub rolls we could have subs. What are you in the mood for?”

Astrid shook her head with a smirk, “Whatever you want to make will be fine. I’m not really picky and Junior’s only really tasting semi-solid foods.” She leaned on the wall and watched him, smiling. The little voice in the back of her mind kept telling her to jump right in, but the rest of her mind kept trying to pull that little part back. “What are you doing the next two, maybe three days?”

Astrid chuckled as Junior played with the stuffed dragon. “Well, she’ll still be a part of his life even if she isn’t around.” She kissed Hiccup’s cheek and wrapped her arms around him. She battled with herself for a moment before looking up at Hiccup. “If you want to next weekend, you can keep him here for a few nights. It’ll give you more time with him. I should warn you he isn’t always the best sleeper.”

Hiccup smiled and nodded to Astrid as he wrapped an arm around her. “I’d like that,” he said. He wanted to say that he’d like it better if she stayed too but he didn’t want to push the subject just yet. “Have you eaten lunch yet? I can make us some lunch if you’re hungry or we can go out to eat.”

Astrid smiled as he followed his lead to the guest bedroom. Looking around, she was dumbstruck again. He’d done so much in only a few days. He had to be crazy. Then again, this was Hiccup. He must have spent every spare second he had working on all of this. She walked around, looking at the room and everything in it. Her hands touched the crib with feather light touches as if it would break under even the weight of a finger. “This was yours when you were a baby?”

Hiccup walked over to the crib and leaned against it, not concerned of it breaking. “Yep,” he said. “Dad said that my mom had always wanted to keep it for the day when I have kids. So after she disappeared, he kept it because it was what she wished for. Now it’s ours to use for Junior.” Reaching inside he pulled out a stuffed dragon and handed it to his son. “This was also mine, my mother made it for me.”

Astrid rolled her eyes, “You are too perfect.” She leaned across the table and pulled him up to kiss him. “Where did I even find you?” She giggled and sat back down. Her hand rested on the table, open for Hiccup’s to meet it. “I’m glad I’ll get to spend the rest of my life with you too.”

Hiccup gave a small shrug. “I try to be,” he said before he responded to her kiss. He gently took her hand in his and squeezed it softly. “I’ve always been right here in front of you, it just took a little dragon kidnapping for you to finally see it.” He was referring to the first time they went flying together.

Astrid was in complete awe of what Hiccup had done. The smile on her face just couldn’t be dimmed. She ran a hand through her hair, just trying to think of anything to say. It was just too perfect. This had to have been a dream. She kept floundering and searching for the right words, any words, but she couldn’t find any.

She raised an eyebrow, thinking the sound was Toothless until she turned around to see Stormfly. Gently, she moved Stormfly’s paws to the floor and got down on her knees with the dog, smiling and laughing as tears sprung to her eyes. The only thing preventing the streams of overjoyed tears down her cheeks was Stormfly’s licking.

After a few minutes of excitement between Astrid and her dog, she wiped the tears away and stood up. “I can’t believe you did all of this.” She walked over to him and smiled at Junior before turning it on Hiccup. “Thank you,” she said as she put a hand on the back of his neck to bring his head down, her lips meeting his very gently for just a brief few seconds.

Hiccup placed a hand on the small of her back and pulled her in closer gentyl as he kissed her back. When he pulled back he smiled back at her then kissed her forehead. “I’d do anything for you and Junior if it means seeing you smile.” The brunet was thrilled that Astrid loved what he had did and just seeing her breathless reaction made his heart swell with pride and love.

"I figure if there was anything else you wanted for him that we could pick it out together," he said and bounced Junior on his hip. His ultimate goal was to have the two of them live with him and he was prepared to wait for however long it too. Hiccup simply wanted to be prepared for when that time arrived. "Come on let’s go look at the guest room." He took her hand had lead her to the spare room.

The walls were painted a neutral beige color with blue and yellow accents in the furniture and blankets. A full sized bed sat in one corner while a pristine white crib sat in another with a dresser separating the two. A small lap sat on top of the dresses along with some other baby essentials including spar pacifiers, baby powder, infant hair brush, some small stuffed animals. There were a couple shelves on the wall that were decorated some more toys and child decor and some mostly empty picture frames, only one had an actual photo in it. The picture was of Astrid and Hiccup on the last real date they went on during their senior year, taken shortly before Astrid disappeared.

Astrid chuckled, “Not a bit. I actually stopped trying after I realized how horrible it was.” She shook her head. Luckily, she’d taken a few lessons from her mother and a few from some of the other women on Berk and now she knew how to cook, at least enough to satisfy.

Hiccup smiled and took a bite of his food. “Well maybe we can come up with a good recipe for it,” he said with a smile. When it was just him and his dad, he did most of the cooking or Gobber would cook for them. Not to mention they had women from the village bringing them food as well.

Astrid smirked, “If you want to give it a try, by all means.” Basic cooking skills weren’t enough to solve that concoction’s problems. Her mind started to wander for a moment, “You know, I’m pretty sure if we walk out that door everyone will already know we’re getting married. In fact, I’d place a bet that more than half of Berk already knows.” She took a bite, smirking.

Hiccup laughed and nodded. “You know I bet you’re right,” he said with a grin. There was no way that his father and Gobber would be able to keep quiet about Hiccup and Astrid and the possibility of them getting married. “But you know what I’m okay with it. As long as I get to spend the rest of my days by your side, there’s nothing I’d want more then that.”

Astrid’s jaw dropped. In such a short time, Hiccup had already done so much. “How-… What-…” She was speechless. She couldn’t even think of a single word to say. Her head shook as she walked around to look at the baby things. She handed Junior off to his daddy as she continued to look at their baby’s new things.

Hiccup gladly took his son and kissed his head as the boy buried his face in his shoulder. “I have a special recipe for a teething treat my grandmother used to give me,” he said. Moving to one of the bar stools he took a seat and watched Astrid look around. “That’s just the beginning of what I’ve managed to do,” he said. “The high chair and play pen are new but the crib in the spare bedroom was mine when I was a baby. Dad kept it all these years.”

Looking over to the couch he smiled. “Okay you can come out now girl.” The sound of paws slipping on the hardwood floors sounded as Stormfly came running out from behind the couch and straight for Astrid. The dog’s tail was wagging as her butt was shaking and she threw her paws up on Astrid trying to get to her face to lick her. Soft whines came from her throat.

Hiccup bit the inside of his mouth to keep himself from laughing. “Has the yaknog improved?” he asked. He couldn’t resist the temptation of asking her that question. The yaknog had been pretty bad but had always did his best to make her think it wasn’t too terrible. Being the softy that he was he never wanted to hurt her feelings.

Astrid didn’t say anything for another few minutes as she finished cooking their meal. She set the food down on the table and moved to give Hiccup a quick kiss on the forehead, “You can bet you’ll have everyone’s attention, and it’ll all be worth it in the end.” She sat down to eat, trying not to worry about him.

Hiccup smiled at her and picked up his fork to begin eating. It surprised him a little that this was good, her yaknog was not so much. It made him smile more and he glanced up at her. “It’s nice to have home cooking after so long,” he said. “Thank you.”
