The Merriam-Webster description of “Astrology” is the following:
“The study of how the positions of the stars, and movements of the planets have a supposed influence on events and on the lives and behavior of people.”
Astrology is a science in which one uses the movements of the planets, the locations of constellations, stars, and asteroids to decipher information. Information about people, events, and things. Things that have happened, things that are happening, and things to happen. It is a clock of sorts, that points to timing. The time in which something is to happen, must then be important. This must further mean most things will only happen at times in which the movements of the celestial bodies suggest it. When the planets position themselves in certain locations to one another, within certain constellations, changes then can occur. One who knows astrology can look at what the planets are doing in the sky, to speak on what events will most likely transpire on Earth. Astrology is not just used to predict events. Astrology can also be used to show all energies and forces contained within a person, place or thing. The driving force of something’s existence. Since everything is created within Time, in this plane that we live in, everything that is created then is influenced by the energy of Astrology. Something is always happening in the sky, at all moments. If this were not true, our heavenly bodies would not be in constant and unending movement.
How is Astrology different from Astronomy?
Astronomy is the Scientific study of heavenly bodies. Planets, asteroids, comets, moons (also called satellites,) etc. Unlike Astrology; Astronomy collects similar information about the planets, for sheer scientific reasons. No meaning concerning the influence of people or events is used. Astronomy is the science that is used to study the composition of planets; their orbits, atmospheres, and many other factors. Astronomy also differs from Astrology because of the fact that planets in Astronomy are observed to be in different zodiac constellations than what Astrology observes them in.
Why is there a difference between what Astrology and Astronomy sees?
This difference is there, because Astrology has a Geocentric study base. This means that Astrology is studied from an Earth-Centered perspective. Astronomy looks out at the sky, in disregard to the present location of Earth. Some see this as the truth to discredit Astrology. Such as Astrologers saying that Venus is in Scorpio presently; while Astronomy says that it’s actually in Libra. One then thinks “If science is saying that Venus is in Libra, and Astrologers are saying that Venus is in Scorpio - then the Astrologers are wrong!” This is an incorrect assumption. The reason why Earth factors so importantly in the use and practice of Astrology, is because Earth’s location dictates what the planet is exposed to at any given moment.
This is also why the Sun appears to rise and set - though it does not. We move, and heavenly bodies appear to be in a certain location due to our proximity to it. The effect of the Sun warming the Earth in the morning is a good example of the fact that the rising sun is not moving, but it is heating your neighborhood because your location to the sun has changed. So you see/feel more of the Sun.
The Sun “appears” to move through the constellation of Capricorn during late December, early January of every year. The side of the Earth in the northern hemisphere experiences the effects of Winter when this happens. The Winter Solstice. This is also due to the fact that for the Sun to be appearing to move through Capricorn, the Earth must then be exactly opposite the location of the Sun. So this places the Earth traveling through the opposite of Capricorn - Cancer. Winter comes, though the sun has not moved. Then, it must be that by moving around the Sun, this places the inhabitants of Earth under changing energy signatures at any given moment. Where a planet “actually” is, is not relevant to Astrology. What it is doing to Earth IS RELEVANT, though. One has to use the location of the Planet in which they reside on, to then have a reference point for the effects of Astrology.
In short - YES. It would make no sense for me to have an Astrology blog, if I did not wholeheartedly have verifiable belief in it’s efficacy. Although this blog is not religious, it would help for me to quote a reference to the movements of the heavens in cultures long past. There is a passage in the Bible. Ecclesiastes 3. This passage speaks of timing. It simply states that there is a proper TIME for things to unfold on Earth.
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

Another is the biblical term “On Earth as it is in Heaven.” Often in other faiths the term used is “As above/So Below.” This insinuates the same: That events on Earth reflect what is happening in the Heavens. And as well, what is happening in the Heavens, can be used as a marker to indicate what it is “time” for on Earth. It is the greatest, and grandest of clocks!
The Earth in which we walk upon is ruled by the passing of time, and the energies therein. Everything from planting seeds, to working on the home. Doing things at the right time doesn’t necessarily ensure foolproof success. BUT it does one important thing: Knowing whats going on in the skies above us, and acting accordingly can make it easier to accomplish things. Just as if you go in to work, and you have been informed that your boss is in a bad mood. Knowing this in advance can then influence you to act accordingly. To avoid potentially irritating your boss while she is already in a “mood.” Doing things at the “wrong” time, consequently, does not PREVENT things from happening. What this energy does is make it harder to accomplish. If one is looking for a love relationship at a time in which according to Astrology the planets suggest chaos and aggression: it may prove harder to solidify a love relationship. This does not make it impossible though. Nothing that happens in Astrology can “make” things happen here. Often Astrology does inadvertently cause things to happen because humanity subconsciously answers to the call of nature. Just as people naturally being more open to harmony, beauty, and peace when Venus is doing something in the sky to suggest such natural behavior. Why is it that more animals have births in the spring? The chirping of the birds, the buzzing of the bees, the blooming of flowers. On Earth it suggests that it is “time” for life to return anew after the dead of Winter.
Astrology “works” because it is very precise. The planets have always moved, and always will. What a planet is doing today, it has done before. This allows one to see what effect a planet has and when, to compare to events over the course of history. This allows one to better predict what naturally happens when planets do certain things. There is no magic “trick” for getting astrology to work. It just does. If you read a Farmer’s Almanac that tells you to plant the seeds of a certain herb in March, and you do such; then that is just how Astrology works. If an Almanac can predict issues with plants germinating at a certain time, then seeds planted in that time may take longer to sprout. Or they may not sprout at all.
Astrology allows a person to decipher the information in Nature above them, to derive meaning and direction. One does not “create” the meaning. There is only interpretation. There is a language there, that one has to learn to interpret. Languages rule all things. Music notation is a language that one must learn to be able to understand what the symbols are trying to say related to music. Nature has its own language. Nature is always telling us things. Some decide to actually listen, and they also learn the language that is being spoken.
Since the planets never stop moving, one has a clear view of what planets have done, what they are doing now, and what they WILL be doing. This is what allows Astrologers to calculate when things might happen, when things WILL happen, when things did happen, and WHY. If I am aware that in 6 months, Venus will be in Scorpio… then I know what to expect when Venus enters Scorpio, as well as what Venus will do with surrounding planets while it is in Scorpio!
Since we are all individual people. leading individual lives, what is happening in the sky above affects us all differently. We, by grace of simply being alive to walk the Earth; are avatars of the energies that were in the sky on the day of our birth into this world. Venus entering Scorpio may be difficult for one person. But beneficial for another, due to what has happened for them, what is happening right now, and what was happening when they were born! Lets pretend that today, one man hit the lottery. One may got a new job. One may got killed in a car crash - and another man had a sexual encounter that resulted in a child being conceived. Although the planets in the sky are doing the same thing, and beaming the same energies down for all people, we receive that energy different ways; affecting different areas of our lives. This is because of us containing the sum total of the energies present on our day of birth. This is different for all people - even those born on the same day. As long as you live, you can never be anything other than what you were made to be at birth. Which is why if one is born a Sagittarius, they will always be one by Birth. So Sagittarius, and anything that orbits into Sagittarius will affect them PERSONALLY, for as long as they live. Astrology simply is one of the many languages in which Nature speaks!
