If I may throw my hat into the ring of "what will the setting of the next Knives Out movie be," I think I have a decent idea. Obviously we've had one for every season but winter, so winter makes the most sense. A lot of people have brought up a form of transportation, generally trains. But, if I may posit:

Winter, on a cruise ship. Possibly a Christmas cruise.

There are still some mega-fancy ocean liner type ships that cross the Atlantic from the US to the UK for the holidays, so you'd get the warmly-lit opulence of the indoors contrasted with the dead, cold blue of the north Atlantic. Also, the characters would be highly isolated, AND stressed out with a killer on the loose.

Idk, if I had to make a guess, that's what I'm going with. Knives Out: Benoît Blanc's Ruined Vacation.

“Mike! Wake up! Mike!”

picture opens on Max. she’s on her skateboard but only her face is in frame. she’s picking up speed until suddenly, she pitches forward as her board hits a rock. her face goes out of frame as she falls, camera cuts to show her down on the pavement. she groans, lifts her hands to inspect the cuts, but there’s nothing there. theme music fades in as her face shows her confusion.

camera cuts to a different max scene. she’s talking to lucas.

“does it sometimes feel like…i don’t know. like it’s not really over?”

“max. we won. i know you weren’t there with us in the upside down at the end, but joyce chopped off vecnas head. with an axe. it’s hard to get deader than that.”

max looks away. “well you know what they say. cut one head off and two more will grow in its place.”

camera cuts to joyce in hopper’s cabin. she’s straightening up and comes across the picture from will’s graduation day. it didn’t come out right despite jonathan’s adjustment and will’s face is cast in heavy shadow. she sits down on the bed to stare at it.

hopper knocks on the doorframe, startling her.

“it’s just me.”

“yeah.” her voice is troubled. hopper comes to sit next to her. he takes the picture from her hands to examine it. “do you ever think…”

hopper looks at her. there’s a significant pause and he says “as little as possible.”

she smiles but it’s weighed down by worry. “no. not my hopper.”

camera cuts to holly. she is standing in front of the middle school as other kids walk past her. she is deep in thought and doesn’t move until the warning bell sounds. someone calls for her and this snaps her out of it. the scene flickers slightly to show the upside down as she walks through the doors.

in mr. clarke’s class, she leans over to debbie and says “we need to talk. tell the others. meet me after lunch by the bleachers.”

they gather at recess. holly stands on the first row, putting her above the others. she counts. “we’re missing someone.” everyone looks around but no one speaks. “there are only 11 of us. there should be 12. who’s not here?” no one can come up with an answer and they all stay silent. “this isn’t right.”

cut to a ringing phone. mrs wheeler answers. “hello, wheeler residence.” no one replies, but there is the sound of heavy breathing on the other end. “hello, who is this?” breathing continues. in a sudden fearful voice “mike?”

theme music is back

cuts to an action montage. mike running (looks like vecnas mindspace woods). nancy running (different direction/time of day). jonathan’s hands shaking as he loads a gun. steve twirling a spear in one hand and stancing up. joyce locking doors and shuttering windows. the lights flickering around max. will’s arms outstretched and his eyes white. el’s hands curling into fists.

nancy and jonathan embrace. robin leans her head against steve’s shoulder. lucas and max intertwine hands. holly restrings holly the heroic on her necklace. joyce kneels at hoppers side. el faces off against henry. will crosses the room and grabs mike’s face in his hands.
