misterzvereff's photo A man we stumbled upon who was stranded in mud for 24 hours, in what was once the 4th largest inland sea on the planet, until Soviet planners drained the entire thing. http://ift.tt/1XVbSll

misterzvereff's photo Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union Kazakhstan has since had only one president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. He once again won the last election in 2015 with 97.7 percent of the votes cast in his favor, although, none of the elections in the country have been considered “free” by western standards. With ballot tampering, harassment of opposition and censorship considered rampant. Here in this photo Local residents are seen placing their hand in a gilded hand print of the presidents right hand which sits on an ornate pedestal atop the observation tower ‘Bayterek’ in Astana. A plaque nearby asks tourists to make a wish when doing so. http://ift.tt/25jSfZM

misterzvereff's photo Bierdibay lives in the Kazakh city Turkistan. He had driven the locomotives all throughout the Soviet Union and then Kazakhstan for 40 years as a train operator. Last year he finally retired, but before settling down completely he decided to be the head Chef on the restaurant car for the Trans-Aral Railway route. He will finish at the end of this year, so if you want some of his borscht, you're running out of time. http://ift.tt/1WAATmY

misterzvereff's photo Lost somewhere in western Kazakhstan, a land of semi-nomadic people. Here they are photographed giving worship in the center of the Ustyurt Plateau. It was also once home to the Asiatic Cheetah and the Caspian Tiger. http://ift.tt/1VVLkAJ
