When people begin trying to "diet" the first thing that always happens is that they try to severely cut their calories. They don't realize that on a daily basis, their body has to have a certain amount of calories to live. When they aren't even getting in enough just to sustain daily activity (minus working out) they are naturally going to be exhausted and their body is going to hang on to everything they put in it. No matter how "healthy" the food is, it's going to turn into fat. Instead, find out how much food you need daily. Eat food that is nutritious such as greens, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole grains. Eat 4-6 times per day of good portion sizes. Cut out drinking your calories. Cut out your sugar. #tiptuesday Flexibility. The most over looked component that should be part of our daily lives. It doesn't matter whether you are an athlete or move more in your sleep than anywhere else, you can still benefit from deep stretches. Stretching can: ◾alleviate tight muscles ◾increase movement ◾better performance ◾smoother, more comfortable lifts ◾ability to go up in weight on lifts ◾less soreness ◾reduce joint pain ◾reduce the chances of energy ◾help you feel better overall ◾helps with relaxation With each stretch you want to hold your position for a minimum of 30 seconds and perform these stretches at least once a day, as well as before and after each training session. Try to devote at least 15 minutes each time. ⭐⭐⭐Bonus benefit? For 15 you can tune out the world and just breathe. As high stress of a society taking a few minutes to relax and breathe can never be a bad thing! ⭐⭐⭐ Not sure how or what stretches to do? Message me! Prep your life Sunday. I've found that by taking the time once a week to plan out the coming week it makes life so much easier and smoother. Every Saturday or Sunday I make all of my breakfasts and lunches, plan my dinner recipes, plan out my work week, plan out my to do tasks, etc. This all keeps me on track and keeps my head on straight! Want to get more out of your chest day? Burn out your biceps, triceps, and shoulders first! They are all used when working your chest, but sometimes they engage more than your chest during the lift. Don't do too many exercises with them, just go heavy and as many reps as possible. Whole process should take about 10 minutes. Also, try not to rock your body like I did in this video. The more momentum, the easier the lift, also meaning you're cheating the muscle movement. #tiptuesday A little late getting this up, but today's tip Tuesday is all about the micros! Micro nutrients are so important for your body and for your body to have the right amounts of. Thankful Thursday. Taking a step back from reality and looking at the things that we are blessed with. Maybe it is a big thing. Maybe they are tiny things, but regardless we are thankful.
My thankful Thursday is the ability to get back into the gym. To some it doesn’t look like much. My lifts are not always perfect. Sometimes (many times) they are not as heavy as I would like. But you know what? A year ago I couldn’t pick up a laptop. I could barely get out of bed on my own for the mass amount of pain I was in from my RA not being under control. (I have a post on my blog that talks a little more about that journey and I will link it if you want to read any more about it) This whole situation lasted for quite a few months and during those months I had no thought in my mind that I could ever get back into the gym again. I had been in and out of gyms and weight rooms since I was in middle school as well as being at the gym I’m at now for about two years on the regular and I honestly didn’t think it would ever happen again. The pain and depression and self doubt was overwhelming.
Fast forward a year later and here I am. Still building myself up. Still pushing. Still trying. Some days are great and some absolutely suck but at the end of the day this is my journey and I am not giving up. I am thankful for the little accomplishments. I am thankful for the big accomplishments. I am thankful for doctors who look out for me and I am thankful for all the people I have come into contact with over the last year. I am thankful for my family who always builds me up even when I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
