Uber belated documentation post.... But handcut+watercolored+glittered Autumn leaf installation! Created this last Thanksgiving
Nature Hike.
so...I am a little bit beyond giddy and well pleased with how a first run of a photo/video shoot turned out with my beautiful, dance friend Larissa :DD
Improv and impromptu style again.Â
We are currently collaborating on a hope out of "brokenness” series.Â
These photos cannot fully explain my experience at DGW... But here’s a little peek into my time there. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” - Matthew 11: 28-30, the MSG ~Doing Good Well 2016, Bridgewater Vermont
I created this video with my close friend, and long-time collaborator, TJ Reid and have felt sooo excited to share it. Expressing myself through dance has always been something Huge for me, but I’ve never personally recorded and publicly shared it. I’m typically really shy and a total perfectionist, but I am learning to embrace my ever-evolving process with Grace.Â
The video was awesomely cinematic, thanks to the great eye and trained video skills by my good friend :)Â
We shot and collaborated everything in a span of 2 days. It about 5 hours in total of both shooting and intense editing– all before my flight to an artist retreat in Vermont xP.
A visit to my artist friend Annlyn in NY + the Cooper Hewitt Museum.
“Real beauty . . . touches the five senses, yes—you can almost say it strikes you—it can caress you, hit you right in the face, or worse, get you right in the stomach. Beauty is a stolen moment, gesture, or encounter—often unexpected and unplanned.”—Giambattista Valli
In my next few posts, I’ll be continuing documenting pieces I never got around to from college.Â
I realized, each creation– no matter how gloriously or abysmally made, NEEDS to be CELEBRATED! Cus it was thought of. It was made.Â
So without further ado…this is one of my more ambitious pieces made from a mixed media ceramics class.Â
I built this two layered playground and even had a live tic-tac-toe playing area on one side. Illustrations of kids playing hide-and-seek, sliding, etc. can be found hidden amongst the piece. (This was through a cool technique of printing, transferring, and firing).
Needless to say, this ironically ended up serving as one of best handmade coffee tables next to Rebecca lol.
*Many thanks to my ceramics friend Biset for taking me home in one of my many late night ridiculousness in the art building.
Also Pinterest inspired for more Bridal decor-- DIY gold, bottled vases!
Process: 1. Collect empty wine and beer bottles from friends. 2. Thoroughly clean with soap and hot/warm water. 3. Use Goo Be Gone and a scraper to remove labels. This was the more painstaking, tedious part. But I had a friend help me! 4. Set up spray station in well ventilated area. 5. The fun part: spray paint 2-3 coats of gold on all sides (bought from Lowe's/Home Depot, etc). Wait in between dry times or you'll get weird drippy areas, like I did. Check in the light for all sides to be covered. *I also recommend wearing a mask or some other protection to prevent you from inhaling fumes.  6. Voila! You have yourself some cheap, beautiful gold bottled vases to store flowers in. Great for decor in a venue or on the table :)
Customized appreciation gift basket for Iris at her bridal shower :) Each item picked represented something about my church leader/older sister + I had a handmade watercolor tag explaining each one. Collecting marriage quotes was prob one of the funnest part of creating this gift :)
Throwback to when I was mass, hand-cutting paper diamonds for Margie’s Bridal shower to make DONUT WEDDING RINGS!
Though they didn’t get used here (hence why I was crying diamond tears), they got to shine at Iris’ wedding on cupcakes!
Was inspired for this hilarious, cute wedding theme idea from a Pinterest board :)Â
