I got a very interesting question. But y'all, I know next to nothing about the military despite growing up surrounded by it too, so I'm probably projecting a lot here. Please don't jump me if I get something wrong because military culture where I live could be pretty different from other places.
Q: If MC is a military veteran, would BB's behavior toward her change depending on which branch she served in, especially if she was a Marine? Would their different military backgrounds create playful rivalry, inside jokes, or unique bonding moments?
Some of the examples were:
Would they argue over which branch is better?
Would BB make Marine jokes like the classic "Marines eat crayons" joke?
Would exchanging dog tags become even more meaningful, with BB memorizing everything on MC's tags?
Would MC use military pride to tease BB into things like arm wrestling?
Would BB start picking up MC's branch-specific slang, phrases, or battle cries like "Oorah"?
As for whether they'd constantly argue about which branch is better... honestly, I don't think so.
Based on my own theory, BB chose to move to Bergen because it surrounded him with things he genuinely liked. Bergen also has strong connections to the Navy and Air Force. Because of that, I've always wondered if his family had ties to multiple branches of the military.
If BB grew up in the kind of strict military and religious household I imagine, I think his father would've taught him to respect every branch, even if he personally took pride in his own. If his family was well-known within military circles, there's a good chance they interacted with people from different branches regularly, so there'd still be a sense of mutual respect.
So if MC started saying "Marines are the best" I honestly don't think BB would take the bait.
I can picture him saying something like.
"Each branch exists for a different purpose. They were trained for different missions. None is more important than the others."
Deadpan.
That answer feels very BB to me.
Even outside of military culture, BB doesn't really seem like someone who ranks people based on superiority. His worldview is more about purpose. Everything has a role to fulfill. Everyone has a duty. You can even see that in the way he talks about himself (as a tool, a soldier, or even MC's toy in bed). To him, purpose matters more than status.
So no, I don't think he'd seriously argue over which branch is better.
Now, would he know all the jokes and stereotypes? Definitely.
I'm sure he's heard every Marine joke, Army joke and Air Force joke while serving. I just don't think he'd be the type to start those arguments himself.
If everyone's just joking around, I think he'd play along a little because they're harmless inside jokes. But if people started genuinely putting another branch down or acting like one was objectively better than the others, I don't think he'd enjoy that very much. He seems like someone who'd believe every branch deserves respect for its own specialty.
I also looked up the cheering slang/term because I was curious.
The Marines use "Oorah!"
The Army uses "Hooah!"
The Navy uses "Hooyah!"
And the Air Force uses "Hua!"
I actually do think BB would start picking up MC's branch specific slang and expressions.
The reason is that military service is a huge part of his identity. If MC also served, then she'd understand a side of him that very few people ever could.
And because he'd want to understand her just as much, I think he'd genuinely enjoy learning about her branch's culture, traditions, slang, and little habits. If she said "Oorah" all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually started saying it too, even if it wasn't technically his branch's phrase.
I could also see them exchanging stories about training, comparing experiences, laughing over military humor, and teaching each other little bits of their own military culture.
So I don't think their relationship would be built around a playful rivalry. I think it'd be built around mutual understanding, with the jokes just naturally coming along with it.

BB
BB is a guy that craves efficiency for himself. Since he lives a simple life, most of his daily needs can be met by bulk purchasing toiletries and supplies. Your needs are treated no differently. If you like a particular snack in a store, BB will take notice and he will buy a whole box full of them just for your consumption.
When you are placed under his protection and love, you are his priority first and foremost. He enters through doors first, prefers sitting where he can see exits and windows, and would prefer to have you close not only because he craves you and the proximity, but the security of being able to pull you close if anything happens
Unbelievably dry texter, typing in short and succinct sentences is the best he'll offer you. What he's more likely to do is send you random images of things throughout the day. Pictures of his workstation, the garage, and his workers are just some of the things you might see.
He might leave short voice memos later on as technology progresses. Naturally, he'd work to cultivate an acceptable back and forth between the two of you, just so he can keep tabs on you throughout your respective days.
If you ever move in together he shifts and shrinks down his space to accommodate you. In many ways, it's his way of showing you how much you matter, in other ways it's just a deep-seeded belief that because you're a woman you need the extra space. BB strips down the moment he comes home from work, not wanting to track any grease or oil into the house- especially after the work you'd both put into making the place truly yours.
Doesn't trust anyone else to take care of your vehicles than him. Why would you bother going to another garage anyway? He has the technical ability and the knowledge to repair and perform maintenance on any bike or car you might own. Besides, BB knows his own standards better than anyone else, there's not a single mechanic that would test every part and function in your ride the same way BB would.
Lane
Is a stage 5 clinger in the most endearing and annoying way possible. Have you ever owned a dog that loves sticking their little muzzle in your business? Maybe a cat that likes to move room to room just to annoy you and paw things of every flat surface? That's Lane. He takes immense joy in pushing you around and testing to see if you really, really love him or not
He'll use his height and build to his advantage, snatching things away until you pay a toll (The price: a kiss... or more, depends on you). If you're out and about, Lane would definitely drape himself over your shoulders and lean his weight down just to get a good look at what you're doing.
Don't bring him out in public. Lane Fostman is a menace to society and a pain in your ass.
He will definitely try and tease/embarrass you by being inappropriate at the most inopportune times. Smack his arm and he'll let out a moan loud enough to draw passing eyes to you. He'll whine and complain in your ear as the two of you go about your day and even make jabs some random passerby just to earn a sharp look or reaction. Either way, he's hoping to hear a laugh or two from his girlfriend.
Lane would use your products in the bathroom so long as the scent is to his taste. That $60 body wash you got at the mall a few weeks ago? It's empty now because Lane thought to use it up scrubbing his face in the shower. Don't worry, he'll replace it for you... probably.
Lowkey would be into those gimmicky things for couples. Of course, Lane will act otherwise, he'll say it's cringe or a waste of time, but he likes having the same hoodies and matching phone charms or ringtones- it's just those small things that really affirm that the two of you are together for the long haul.
HEYYY ITS BB!! ngl i made him a little more tanned than i expected, but im not complaining LOLOL. yk i actually used to be a bb girl.. but lane won my heart during the 2nd update.. gulp.
