There’s a song using Elizabeth Taylor’s life story as a vehicle to talk about her own love life. There’s a song about man-made gemstones and how that’s akin to making your own luck. There’s a song with a full plot about deep betrayal and her masters. There’s a song about earnestness. A song telling a story about high school and a life lesson she learned. A wistful song about what she wants out of life. A song telling the story of a fictional star and her fan. She uses sweeping metaphors and aesthetic-sounding SAT words all throughout.

That’s the folklore shit people have been asking for, and a pop beat behind it literally does not change that.
