“... what the fuck was up with the bit about the sewers orgy.”
Alright, let's talk about @friedsewerrat.
First off: I have yet to see a single source for the usage of "rat" being a slur towards Japanese people in modern times.
It was used during WW2, yes, but what does that really mean? It was also used as a slur against Jewish people — and against Germans. And against African-American people, and against Italians and poor people in Brazil, against several other groups of people in several other countries with varying degrees of usage in propoganda, lexicon and context.
Rats, in Western culture, are related to vermin, to dirt, to disease and to unwanted things. But, if you may be so kind as to look the other way, rats have a very different connotation in Japanese culture.
What I'm asking for is: provide us with sources on the usage of "rat" as a slur. Provide sources on Japanese-American people's feelings about the word, preferably that aren't a callout post in itself.
It's easy to point and call racism, can you back up your claims? Can we get one person of Asian descent here to say if the word is really on the same level as one that, if someone had used on their url, they would have been called out for as soon as their blog started, as opposed to nine months after, when there had been not a single whisper of controversy before?
It is so very easy to decide that you are now the holder of the truth because you saw one post — also without any sources aside from WWII propaganda pictures — and decided that it was no longer okay for someone to have the url they've had since March, and now they must correct themselves because of your and your friends' say-so.
"I don't want to cancel them", no. You just want to bend people to your will based off one Tumblr post and mob mentality, because you cannot comprehend that maybe the post is just someone blowing one thing out of proportion.
Addendum: very funny how everyone wants to shove North American standards and politics into everyone else. Have you thought that people don't have the same experience as you do? Sometimes a rat is just a rat, and people are in fact reffering to the animal.
Unfollow me if you must. Hell, cancel me if you feel like it, I'm going right back to my hiatus anyway. Dig through my blog and my twitter account and find shit worth calling me out for, if you ought to. But do your research and see if you're talking out of your ass or not.
And, by the way, the burden of proof falls with the accusers, not the accused. Provide proof that this is a slur on par with the f-slur, as you have so kindly compared it to, then come back.

“While I don’t doubt that you can still knock a bear out love, I think maybe a cave isn’t the best idea. Maybe just becoming hermits in another country would make more sense. Less bears to fight.” He laughed, slipping his arms around his husband and kissing the top of his head.
“Toshinori–” He sighs out next, more than happy to hold the older man, which he does, giving him a gentle squeeze. “I know I don’t have much experience in dealing with them but we’re supposed to be dealing with it together, remember? I want to be of some help…”
“ Hm. Someplace sunny and faraway, ” he ducks his head underneath Naomasa’s chin, presses a kiss to his throat, eyes closed. “ The States? We can come back to civilization only so I can take you to baseball games. ”
Toshinori makes a sound that’s somewhere between a groan and a hum. They should be doing this together, but if anything he would very much like to keep his husband away from the sharks for as long as possible — wants to protect him from the nitty-gritty of things, even if by now he’d only been really dealing with his own staff. “ You are helping, ” he muses, halfheartedly. “ I could... you’re better with paperwork than me. Wanna handle the lawsuit? The rest should be ready to go in a week or so anyway. ”
truexman:
He smiles softly as Toshinori sinks down, reaching to grab his husbands phone off the floor before setting it on the table. Just in case someone important called. Though he bet all the calls right now were important. Running his fingers through Toshinori’s hair, he hummed.
“A cave doesn’t sound ideal but I’ll go with you if that’s where you’re headed.” Naomasa mused, letting out a sigh. “Is there something I can do love? To help?”
Toshinori sighs, nosing further against Naomasa’s shoulder. He would very much like to turn off his phone and have a nice night in with his husband, an unfortunately distant dream. “ ‘s gonna be good. I’ll find us a nice cave, will even check if there’s bears there, ” he slinks one arm around his husband’s waist, and after a little bit of thought decides it’s not enough, slings one leg over both of his as well. “ ‘mma fight a bear for our cave. Punch it right in the snout. ”
Sighing, he thinks on it. When he speaks again, his voice is smaller, quieter. “ Hold me? I just — dunno. There’s not a lot I wanna drop on your lap, ” Toshinori almost, kind of wants to ask Nao to get their cat from where she’s sleeping, likely on their bed, just to have more comforting weights on him, to remind him that this is worth the hassle. “ Dealing with the press like this is... ugh. A learning curve. ”
I had fully forgotten Peacock by Katy Perry existed how could I have forgotten this masterpiece thank you @akairyoku

“ You’re going to be fine, ” his hands hover over Daiten’s shoulders — searching for a sign that she’d accept the touch, that she was well enough in control for it, the gesture borne out of care rather than true hesitation. “ These journalists mean nothing. They’re sharks out for blood, I won’t let them feast on yours. You — you can trust me on this. ”
@rolypolygum || ♡
“ I need a favor, ” he looks... constipated, almost. Contrite, as he taps his fingers on the table between himself and Taishiro. Toshinori is fully on his rarely-used ‘anonymous’ attire, baseball cap pulled low on his forehead nearly touching the rim of his sunglasses. “ And I need to apologize for that dinner. Once this whole... ordeal blows over, we can have it. ”

“ I won’t miss this, ” Toshinori sits down heavily on the couch, dropping his phone on the floor without a single care for what happened to it. He had been, for the past week, spending most of his time before and after classes on his phone — with his publicist, with his media managers, with his legal team. He shuffles, tired and irritated, to press his face into Naomasa’s shoulder.
“ Any of this, ” Toshinori grumbles, tugging his tie loose. “ I’m just about ready to retire for real. Maybe become a hermit, how d’you feel about living in a cave? ”
I’ll be here tomorrow, I swear TO GOD.
LIKE THIS FOR A STARTER TOMORROW. IF I DON’T WRITE IT COME KICK ME.

the sense of ambiguity felt as though it left a foul taste in his mouth as his features twitch with slight unease and suspicion. despite that, his smile remained all the same through it all and he doesn’t move back when all might moves in save for a small flinch and the tensing of shoulders as he’s grabbed by one.
void eyes stare at the gloved hand holding him, lingering for a moment before glaring back into all might’s gaze. why, what a nerve ! how daring and bold, if he could form an opinion on the matter at all. he kept it noted, nonetheless, and complied with a simple nod and light chuckle.
“ then by all means… ” an arm extends out in a waving motion, gesturing for the man to take the lead for now. “ …lead the way. ”
All Might's eyes round in the corners, an open-mouthed smile hidden beneath his mask. He revels in the flinch, in the measured glare thrown his way, in getting a reaction. Thrives in it, really, already wondering if he'd be able to push through the mild-mannered businessman facade to see for himself if this Redestro was strong enough to follow them into the world his organization apparently claims to want.
His grip tightens minutely when he begins walking, loosening to something closer to a normal person's touch in a bit. Amiable, almost, All Might is quiet for a while, leading Rikiya through dark streets and darkey alleyways.
" Say what, " he murmurs, not looking at his companion. " I'll give you one question before we start, if you'd like. Take your time with it, and I'll answer. We still have a bit of a ways to go, " he barks out a laugh, feeling his face split in another wide smile. " If you'd like, of course. Never wise to walk into a deal with as little information as you do. "
