Who
Hlynur V. Atlason is an Icelandic designer, proprietor of ATLASON/studio in New York City. In recent years, Atlason and his team have created work spanning from MoMA store to Microsoft, across categories including home goods, electronics and fragrance & beauty. ATLASON has been commissioned to lead projects at a variety of scales, from bespoke art items to consulting with large corporations on programs with a global reach. Mr. Atlason is an adjunct lecturer at The New School, Parsons School of Design.
AileenJames was established by Ben Gaffney and Caitlin Gaffney, former Director of Product Development and Senior Buyer for Design Within Reach, respectively. Together, their depth of experience has led them to possess a keen understanding of the luxury retail landscape and strong relationships within the modern furniture industry.
Why
Hlynur, Ben and Caitlin met while working together on a past project. “We have a shared vision when it comes to furniture; solid timeless pieces that are meant to last,” says Mr. Atlason.
Ben Gaffney added, “after moving on from DWR, we formed AileenJames in order to collaborate with companies like ATLASON. The team has great energy and the capability to bring thoughtful furniture to the modern market. We are drawn to their Scandinavian pragmatism and design sensibility.”
“Atlason’s attention to detail and interest in forming long-lasting bonds with manufacturers speaks to the way we work, which is to become embedded with our clients in order to serve the final product, ” said Caitlin Gaffney.
“I see this as the perfect opportunity to collaborate with Ben and Caitlin who have a vision for how ATLASON can fit into the market landscape. This is a matter of passion for me and I look forward to adding my voice to the conversation around furniture design,” said Mr. Atlason in closing.
