My Robot, My Robot and Me

It had only been an hour since Canti, Gamora, and Atom had began placing beacons. The mundanity of the entire task was peaceful enough for casual exchanges, mainly only between Canti and Gamora as Atom still needed rest and time to recover, but that didnāt stop him from commenting every now and then. Most of it had simply beenā¦questions for Canti. Gamora had been asking him all sorts of odd questions that either he had no answer for or simply he had decided not to answer all together. Despite this he was more than happy to speak of his family back home as well as his new more recent family as well.
Abruptly at the peak of these satisfying conversations, Canti had notified the others of a signal he had began to pick up from the center of the city, which he displayed on his screen. He had began to broadcast what had began to be relayed to the rest of the island. There was footage of even some of the monsters being shown on his screen, although the party did see the affects of the buildings half materialized- the monsters had not been as densely packed as some other locations within the city.
The only problem Canti noticed was that the closest Construction Point lead deeper into the city, which meant more monsters. Had he just been with Atom, heād be able to ferry him over by flying over most of the destruction. Canti unintentionally threw a worried look over to Gamora before making sure that his friend on his back was in a proper and comfortable position for whatās about to happen next.
The sudden change of atmosphere didnāt go unremarked after the beacons lit up, and then promptly shut down. The few remaining active turning an ominous red, on top of the terrifying announcements, killed all conversation immediately. Things were serious before, but now the stakes have doubled tenfold. Canti turned to Gamora and showed her something, but Atom couldnāt see. All he had to go off of was her reaction.
āIs it that bad?ā Atom asked after seeing Gamoraās expression change. He was so caught up in the conversations they had that he completely forgot to suggest leaving the city altogether and heading to the border to wait this event out. He felt some anxiety well up in his chest realizing the gravity of what may happen next. It didnāt help that the beams emanating from the Construction Points only brought back memories of the years just after the End.
Despite his newly founded companionship with Gamora and Canti, part of him almost wanted to run (or rather, limp) away, just hide out somewhere for all this to blow over. Another part told him that he was as safe as he could be right here. In the distance he could hear the screams of other teams, his thoughts darkening considerably.
Atom was about to ask another question, when Canti shifted him around.
