COVID-19 Vaccination and Survivor’s Guilt

I recently received the second dose of the Moderna vaccine and I’m so grateful to have had access and eligibility to receive both doses pretty early in the rollout.  BUT I have survivor’s guilt now because I have loved ones who live in developing countries who either do not have access to a vaccine yet or the vaccines being offered are sub-par.  Now I feel like I don’t deserve to have received those vaccines.

Moderna vaccine

I was fortunate enough to receive both doses of the Moderna vaccine this past month. I’m grateful to my county that promptly rolled out the vaccines and opened up diverse groups to speed up the inoculation. 

The first dose was a breeze. Just some mild aches and pains but it all cleared out in a day.  The second one however is slightly more challenging symptoms-wise but that means it’s working and that my body will have immunity against SARS-CoV-2 virus. 

I’m grateful to all the scientists who relentlessly worked to create this mRNA vaccine. For the distributors. For all the healthcare workers who have held the line against the virus and prevented my entire community from being engulfed by the virus.  There are so many things and people I’m grateful for.  I also have immense survivor’s guilt. I’ll write more about it. I don’t know how to resolve this feeling.

Fortune favors the bold

I see it happen over and over. People who are willing to take their chances... tend to actually get their way.   Lesson learned:  Demand things.
