As the third generation of a strong line of demigods, once stemming directly from the Goddess Psykhe and God Eros, the Andersen family has always been a family on her paternal side with strong psychic related powers relating to the mind. Growing up, Atria would watch her father’s ‘all-seeing’ power with complete and utter awe. He’d be able to predict someone’s outcomes in every situation no matter what they actually chose. It was something that Atria had wanted to have herself no matter what.
When she had started to show powers of her own, it took the family quite some time to actually understand what was going on. Once they realized what was going on, both parents realized their daughter’s powers could be potentially dangerous if used the wrong way. They started to limit her abilities by telling her that she physically couldn’t use her powers unless she had consent, or if she was physically touching someone. This made it impossible for her to take over someone who wasn’t able to defend themselves. Not that their daughter would be anything more than a pacifist, but they wanted to make sure their twins would be as loving as possible with their familial history of being peacemakers.
The plan had worked, as Atria had never had any ill thoughts about her powers and had ever only wanted to use them for good. There were periods in her life, however, where she resented herself so heavily because of the fact that her twin brother hadn’t shown any signs of powers- just like her mother. It took her awhile to get over the fact that her brother seemed utterly jealous of this and she kept on pushing on. Her family had always been protectors- looking over the mutants and otherworldly beings in Oregon. Her family had made such a huge impact- though the rest of the state seemed so utterly uncomfortable with 'disgusting mutants’, but she noticed how many people’s quality of life had improved because of the fact that they had someone looking after them and making sure they were safe.
The more that Atria used her powers to help alongside her family, the more she realized how essential she was to helping human and mutant kind. Even calming down irrational people, or letting people no longer grieve the loss of a loved one improved their life significantly to Atria, and it made her want to do it as a living. Though people with powers were still very seriously at risk, she decided to go to schooling. After searching various colleges, she sought out the Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago and has studied there and lived there ever since.
Her study has been extremely successful, though it started to get to the point where she noticed more and more clients were mutants, or powered, who admitted to being troubled and having nowhere to go or feeling hopeless. It made her want to help as much as her family did (and still does) in Oregon, which had her go back to schooling to get a business degree. It took her a bit longer to get through business school than medical school, but eventually she perfected her own plan and in the 60s, open up what was going to be a good standing point for trying to make people in Chicago feel welcome.
While she works as a psychologist during the day, she also owns a very well established hotel called The Mindscape with her twin brother. For normal people, this is a well established place to hold business meetings or have visitors stay to impress them with the city- as the hotel itself is at a 30 level’d hotel, thus giving a huge view of the city.
On the other side of the hotel business however, it’s also an under ground safe house to continue the work of her family and spread their message. The purpose of the safe house is to calm down people who need help and to put them back on their feet. She and her brother employ the majority of people who are looking for jobs to be able to get back on her feet. If people come to her hotel and ask for 'Serena’, it’s a code that all employees know to listen to and help said person.
This code is not public information in the slightest and if anyone brings up 'Serena’, it is already under assumption that said person is to be trusted and was given the information by means of another trusted person who had also been helped by Atria.
