Ladies Who Code

Ladies Who Code compromises a series of stellar events & conferences for lady hackers. Originally a London-only event, the organisation has now spread to Manchester, New York, and Washington DC. Their 2013 conference is taking place in London on 26th October, tickets here. 

Berlin Geekettes

Berlin's preeminent community for women in tech organises hackathons, workshops, mentoring sessions and other amazing events on a regular basis. They've also recently launched their Hamburg chapter, so check them out if you're in Berlin or Hamburg!

Girls in Tech

Girls in Tech was initially founded by in San Francisco in 2007. Since then, it has grown to over 8,500 members worldwide. There are local chapters across the globe, in countries like China, Greece, France, the US, Chile, the UK & more. Girls in Tech seeks to empower women in technology by simply providing them with more visibility. GeekGirlMeetup 

Geek Girl Meetup organises "unconference" themed events for geek girls interested in web, technology and innovation. Founded in Stockholm, GGM now operates in over a dozen cities in Europe & around the world. 

Women Who Code SF

A San Francisco meetup group with nearly four thousand members, Women Who Code SF provides an educational and supportive community for female developers in the SF + Silicon Valley with weekly workshops, panels, interviews and even study groups. 

Ladies in Tech London

A brand-new group here in London has just launched for women in tech, so far hosting intimate breakfast and lunch meetups to network, be inspired and inspire others. The group will be organising workshops, panels and other meetups in the near future - keep your eyes peeled, London.

4 European Tech Events You Should Attend This Autumn

TechCrunch Disrupt  // 26th-29th October, Berlin

For it’s first major event outside the US, TechCrunch is premiering it’s Disrupt Europe conference in trendy Berlin. Once called a “rock festival for the brain”, TechCrunch Disrupt features a massive hackathon, a pitch competition (called “Startup Battlefield”), an on-going demo room at “Startup Alley” and more leading tech speakers than you can shake a stick at.

Web Summit // 30th-31st October, Dublin

Dublin Web Summit is a behemoth tech event in the Irish capital, where nearly 10,000 attendees will pilgrimage to the emerald isle for an agenda of over 300 speakers, unbelievable networking and workshops. Despite being called the “SXSW of Europe”, it’s still a top place to get 1-to-1 time with tech leaders. Liam Boogar, Editor of The Rude Baguette, says he “enjoyed the availability of the ‘top-tier’ attendees – VCs, founders, judges on panels, etc”.

Pioneers Festival // 30th-31st October, Vienna

Taking place at Hofburg imperial palace (yeah, you read right), Pioneers Festival stays true to it’s name with a “festival-like atmosphere with free-flowing beer and Red Bull, party marathons in the evenings, and a monster-sized Halloween after party”, and Alexander Osterwalder says that The Pioneers Festival wins the prize for Europe’s best start-up event hands down. This event is all about startups and future technologies, so expect the usual mix of founders, VCs, bloggers and innovators - with a little extra austrian beer thrown in.

  Le Web // 10th-12th December, Paris

Technically, this event is in winter, not autumn - but it’s certainly worth including. Celebrating it’s 10th anniversary with a bang, Le Web Paris is planning on dazzling attendees with a theme of “The Next 10 Years”, focusing on the trajectory of human and technological advancements in sustainable cities, mobile, biotech, space tourism and more. Le Web is also called a “super networking event” where businesses and hungry entrepreneurs can jump start and gain global visibility.

5 London Tech Events To Attend This October

The end of 2013 is fast approaching, but there is no shortage of delectable tech events happening in London to fill up your autumn schedule. Last week, we touched on our favourite regular meetups, and this week it's all about special events and conferences. 

Chew The Fat

'Chew The Fat' is a new monthly event series by the 3beards. Designed to help "get to the meat of the matter", the event format is an in-depth conversation with high profile entrepreneurs, founders, VC's and generally epic people. 4th October, 7pm-10pm at BL-NK.  Tickets here. 

Wired 2013

Wired is a two-day conference that aims to shed light on the people disrupting the status quo and pushing boundaries in fields as diverse as social media, healthcare, nanotechnology, architecture, pop culture, big data, charity, sociology and business. TwilioCon Europe

Ladies Who Code Conference

We are very proud to share that over this past weekend, we made it onto The Next Web's list of 10 Web apps to help you plan and promote a great event.

We came in at #4 (in no particular order)! 

4. Attending

Attending is a simple, social event platform, allowing guests to effortlessly confirm attendance with a single click. As this site is small and uncomplicated, and has a clean and organized aesthetic, ease is the name of the game. Additionally, because Attending integrates with Twitter, users are not required to go through an extensive sign-up process when they need to create and manage their events.

The Twitter integration also allows invitees on an event guestlist to see each others’ social profiles, opening up conversation and opportunities for a bit of social media stalking before and after the function takes place.

5 Of Our Favourite London Tech Meetups

New to London, or just new to London's tech scene?

Whether you're looking for a social environment or a place to learn something new,  there are a plethora of community events in the London tech world, tailored to every different niche and corner of the industry.

It's by no means an exhaustive list, but the Makeshift team has compiled a few of our favourite ongoing tech events in London for you to check out.

@_AmandaFoley's favourite: Silicon Drinkabout

Silicon Drinkabout is a weekly networking event on a Friday evening, based at a different Shoreditch boozer or tech-related venue each week. It’s become somewhat of an institution in the startup community, and it’s always a great place to kick back, relax and knock back a few cold ones with your fellow denizens of Old Street.  It’s run by the 3 Beards, who also do a handful of other great startup community events.  

@jasecoop's favourite: Front End London

Front-end London is an evening meetup hosted by Made by Many that's dedicated to all aspects of front-end development. They chat about a wide variety of topics such as CSS, Sass / LESS, RWD and JavaScript, with thought-provoking talks from a variety of speakers.

@ntlk's favourite: London Ruby User Group

Ruby dev? Meet the London Ruby User Group; a community of ruby developers based in and around London who host a monthly meetup with talks, demos and pub nights.

TechHub Demo Night

TechHub was one of London’s original co-working spaces, and they still maintain extremely popular regular events, including the oft sold-out TechHub Demo Night. It’s a chance for local startups to get feedback in a supportive environment, and perhaps catch the eye of a lurking investor or two.

Don't Pitch Me, Bro! 

Another event from the 3 Beards team, DPMB is designed to get to the nitty gritty of business, not the hockey stick graphs and zero revenue models, but instead designed to help you ascertain where the next step may lie.

Attending, Now in Public Alpha

This week at Makeshift, we’ve focused on making our tiny events platform, Attending the most simple, social and lightweight event management platform in the world.

We released Attending in private alpha a few weeks ago, and carefully listened to your feedback and requested features to make it a more usable product. We’re happy to share a handful of those changes that will make hosting and attending events on Attending that much more fun. 

Need to fill your calendar?

Public events are now all listed in an easily browsable format.

Have an event update to share?

Event hosts can now email all attendees directly, before or after the event takes place. You can also export attendee emails to CSV for future use. (Email marketers, rejoice!)

Profile Pages

See what events other users are hosting and attending with our new profile pages, which are simply attending.io/yourtwitterhandle (e.g. http://attending.io/cbm). Each event specifies which user is the host on any given event page. You can even share your profile pages with a friend! 

Oh dear - last minute cancellation?

Working late or just lazy? If you're not going to make it to your event, it now just takes a single click to let your host know and send your apologies.

Better, faster, stronger

Attending is also rocking some updated social media integration, allowing attendees to share events via Facebook, Twitter and Email. The new event pages include an updated design for map display and buttons, and an overall better user experience.

Don't have an event to organize? We still need your help! We have a handful of excellent groups like Startup Hike, Silicon Drinkabout and Ladies in Tech London already using Attending, but we're looking for more organisations who'd like to try out it out for their next event and give us feedback. 

If you know someone who runs events using legacy bloatware like Eventbrite or Meetup tell them to sign up for Attending and make everyone's lives a little bit easier.
