my best friend works in children's publishing. she told me that supporting barnes & noble is really important, because they stock such a huge inventory of books and that in turn pays to keep the publishing houses open, so the publishing houses can then take more chances on what to publish and indie book stores can in turn benefit downstream

I think the real takeaway is "shop brick and mortar stores" when you can
