He’s so nice and so cool. Plus he’s super attractive. Is that a weird thing to think? I barely know him. I should stop thinking about his looks, it seems way too predatory. Wait a minute, can he tutor me in French? I know he studies it too and he did correct me that one time. Is the French that the Post-19′s do more advanced than the French course I do? Probably not. Plus it would be weird to ask him. Post-19′s have single rooms, don't they? Damn, he’s lucky. I wish I didn’t have to room with so many other guys. Must be nice to have some privacy and space.

Atticus’ maternal grandfather died before he was born and his grandmother died when he ten so he doesn’t have much of a memory of them, although he does remember his grandmother visiting them in Madrid once or twice. His paternal grandparents, his Granny and his Pop, are both still alive and live on a farm in Alabama. Atticus and his family travel to the farm every Christmas they can to spend the holidays with them. They both have thick Southern accents and his Granny hand-knitted him about twenty sweaters when she heard he would be moving to England in case he was cold.

Atticus’ very first enemy was a girl he knew when he was still living in South Korea. She was the daughter of a British businessman and they had an intense rivalry over who the teachers at their international school liked better. While Atticus stunned them all with his knowledge of languages and his aptitude for reading and writing that was well beyond that of his peers, his nemesis always had him beat in the areas of maths and science. He was seven, at the time. When he was older, Atticus was told by his father that neither he or his enemy were the class favorite. According to several parent-teacher conferences, the two children - although intelligent - were rude and disruptive in class due to their constant arguing. A fair few of the teachers considered it a miracle when the pair were separated by Atticus moving away.

Atticus’ father was a literature and film professor at Georgetown University until his wife was promoted to a diplomatic position and his family moved to Spain for her first placement. Since then he has become a stay-at-home dad, enabling the family to stay together, while also using his new schedule to work on his career as novelist. He primarily concentrates on writing literary novels although he does have a series of political espionage thrillers that he authors under a pseudonym.
Don’t underestimate me because I’m quiet. I know more than I say, think more than I speak, and observe more than you know…

One negative aspect of living in a room by himself was that Anson had way too much time to think. He thrived on company or else he had the tendency to think himself in to a sad place. Tired of being locked away in his room, he decided to roam the campus. It was a beautiful autumn day, so that would instantly put him in a better room. He didn’t think twice about the boy on the bench until he heard him mumbling to himself in French. Anson’s French was absolute rubbish, but the boys accent and pacing was basic enough for Anson to catch. “Veux,” He offered before he could catch himself. “Although you’d probably say ‘“Je ne suis pas sûr de ce que je veux carrière,”’ He shrugged with a sheepish smile. “The grammar always confused me.”
Atticus looked up from his book, the confusion on his face slowly transforming into a wide smile as the stranger finished the sentence for him. “You’re exactly right, I can’t believe I missed that” he grinned, quickly crossing out the phrase he’d written into his exercise book and replacing it with the proper wording the boy, or rather the man by the looks of him, had suggested. “Thank you so much. I’ve been trying to work out what was wrong for five minutes. You’re completely right, French grammar is the worst. I’m fluent in four languages other than English and I swear none of them were as hard as French to learn in terms of grammar” Atticus stopped, realizing that may have almost certainly seemed like he was bragging, and took his first proper look at the stranger in front of him. He definitely was not a boy and he didn’t look familiar at all. “I’m sorry, I’m Atticus. I don’t think we’ve met”
Vanessa was out taking her daily walk around the campus. She mainly did this to get some peace and quiet from her roommates, but autumn was also her favorite season and she loved the weather around this time of year. Something about the changing of leaves and the smell of pumpkin spice everywhere was pretty inspiring to her. It was all just so beautiful and serene. Carrying her notebook in her arms, Vanessa headed over towards the garden. Once she saw a boy sitting there, she paused. “Oh, no, you’re fine. This is usually the spot where I like to come and write, but really… You’re fine. I was just going to write for fun where it looks like you’re actually using this space for schoolwork.” She sat down on one of the other benches and opened up her notebook. “So was that French I heard?”
Atticus looked up at the girl, brow furrowing as he tried to remember just who she was. He had a knack for remembering names so he had some idea of hers as he recognized her from Creative Writing and had seen her around St Arcanus plenty of times. He frowned a little as she told him that the bench he’d chosen was her usual spot, prepared to have to find another space to practice. He relaxed when she took the bench beside him and opened up her notebook.·“It was French. Probably terribly phrased and horrifically pronounced French but French nonetheless. I’ve been trying all day to find a place to study for my speaking exam without bothering anybody” he explained as he glanced over his notes and found the phrase he’d been stuck on. He repeated it under his breath in the hope it would commit it to memory before turning back to face the girl.·“You’re Vanessa, right? I’m pretty sure we have Creative Writing together.”
