Arcane Ascension Book 2
Jin: Think! What kind of monster could participate in that?
Corin:
The biggest mistake you can do is undercut your own ability, straight from its source. You are your number one fan. You are the one person who should always one hundred percent believe in you most. If you can achieve that level of self-belief, self-confidence, self-attunement, then you will pass like a breeze through obstacles, ready to dust yourself off and try again; because the only limitations that have ever mattered or will ever matter are your own - and if you impose none on yourself, the universe is infinite.
One of the coolest parts of the Arcane Ascension series (keeping in mind that there are a lot of them) is the fact that heteronormativity just… doesn’t exist? Like. Corin is aro-spec ace, and while it’s important to him and he explores it on screen it’s just a non-issue for his friends, if that makes sense. He gets asked out by one of his classmates, Jin, who is also a guy and nobody bats an eye. He hangs out with his recently discovered sister all the time and the only person to even think of assuming they’re dating is the guy who has a crush on her. One of his best friends is a girl, and nobody assumes they’re dating. Like. Heteronormativity just is not a thing.
Corin Cadence is a homo/bi/panromantic asexual. I’m living for it and loving it. This is basically one of the first times in my life that an asexual (or ace coded) character has been written in a satisfying way to me and it just, I’m living. Like ace characters that give like an exact explanation of what makes you feel different growing up? Ace character still being in a relationship and happy/excited about it? All here, all great.
Corin and the gang being told what weak rookies they are:

This series is unreal 🤩
Corin Cadence is:
Ace
Grey romantic, or possibly demi
Adhd or autistic oR bOTH
This one’s more headcanon than the others, because I couldn’t find any evidence that Rowe did it intentionally, but both me and my dad find him Suspiciously Relatable in areas that overlap with our adhd/autism (third optioning, never solve the same way twice cause that’s BORING, Efficiency Over Everything, touch aversion)
ALSO HE’S TOUCH AVERSE or even repulsed I’m not 100% on the difference
A good cis ally
A good enby ally
Really good at social problem solving? None of the problems are caused by him being stupid for The Drama, and when he does make mistakes it’s understandable, and I usually actually agree with what he did
A realistic abuse survivor holy fuck I was so ready to throw hands and like he doesn’t really admit it to himself until the second book, after he’s been living in Not His House for a year? And he doesn’t tell his friends or his half sister because they’d worry and just hhhhh
THE MAIN CHARACTER DID I FORGET TO MENTION THAT WHOOPS
In conclusion please read Sufficiently Advanced Magic by Andrew Rowe
HOW YOU GONNA END A BOOK LIKE THAT HOLY SHIT
So I’ve definitely found my new favorite author. Andrew Rowe’s books are some of the most amazing fantasy books I’ve ever read, and I love how he actually explains how magic in his world works. He’s currently working on 2-3 interconnected series, but the Arcane Ascension series is my favorite.
On top of the excellent world building, action, and adventure, the characters are deep and flawed and ambitious and just feel like real people. The main character, Corin, is asexual and panromantic, another main character is gay, and another (introduced in book 2) is non binary/gender fluid, who prefers to go by they/them pronouns. Some of the dieties in the world are also gender fluid, with one of them switching between him/her pronouns fairly regularly.
Am I the only one that finds themselves using Resh as a curse more often or is it a common thing
