sebaston's gaze softened, his expression hinting at the memories that lingered between them. the weight of their abandoned engagement rested heavily on his shoulders, a reminder of what could have been. yet, he couldn't resist the opportunity to engage in conversation, even if their interactions were often filled with tension.
his gaze met hers, locking in a dance of veiled tension and unspoken words. "of course, your highness.โ he replied, his tone cool and detached. "i'm sure your appreciation is as genuine as the promises we once made." it was a slight jab, a reminder of their turbulent past and the animosity that lingered between them.
he took a step back, creating a polite distance between them. "if there's nothing else, i bid you farewell, princess." he said, his voice tinged with a touch of indifference. "may you find your way back to your precious chambers without any more mishaps."
daenys smiled as she took a large bite out of the piece of fruit, the ripe juices covering her face. "oh dear," she couldn't help but giggle, her cheeks turning a rosy shade of pink as she checked for a handkerchief. "do you have something i could use to wipe my face?" she looked up at him. she'd hate to summon a lady in waiting, it would certainly ruin the moment.
"i would say it's more genuine," she smiled, biting down on her lip in the process. "perhaps an escort wouldn't be unwarranted," she grinned, "after all, the keep has proven unsafe for targaryens as of late."
sebaston's footsteps faltered as daenys' plea reached his ears, like a familiar melody from a forgotten tune. it was a voice he had grown accustomed to, yet one that had eluded him for far too long. the weight of their shared history hung heavy in the air, their past tangled and unresolved.
unable to resist the pull, sebaston found himself closing the distance, drawn to the gardens where memories of laughter and bitterness intertwined. as he approached, the sight of her standing on tiptoes, reaching for an elusive fruit, tugged at something deep within him. without a word, he extended his hand, fingers grazing against hers in a fleeting touch. in that moment, a whirlwind of emotions stirred, a tumultuous dance of love and hate, desire and resentment.
"still demanding as always, princess."
daenys hadn't realized she'd been holding her breath until she felt herself exhaling as sebaston's fingers briefly grazed hers. she wished the moment could've lasted longer. that their fingers could have intertwined as they stood there, both reaching for the same piece of fruit. but she knew better than to take the moment for granted.
"and to think i thought i had asked nicely," she smiled as she turned to face him. "thank you for your help, lord farman," she continued to smile as she reached to pluck the apple from his hand. "it is greatly appreciated."
Orryn smiled when Dory said that no one would miss him and that he would love to see the city. A hand moving to the other's chest, and then his face. His smiled soon turned mischievous. "You mean it then? Truly? You would want to sneak out together?" Orryn knew exactly how to get out of the Red Keep from here, and even more he kept changes of clothing hidden in the secret tunnels whenever he came for visits for quick escapes.
"I want to see whats going on in the streets of the city, like one of the members of the smallfolk, get away from all this stuffy ceremony, and arrogant nobles. Just the two of us. You want to?"
"i do," dory's nod was enthusiastic a wide smile already set across his face. the thought of escaping into king's landing would be thrilling even if he hadn't been confined to the red keep. and to do so with orryn, well, that was most of the fun.
"i would love that," he reassured his friend with another eager nod of his head. "we should come up with fake names," he suggested, "pretend we aren't dory and orryn for the night-" this caused him to bite down on his lip as he waited for a response. hopefully, he hadn't misjudged the situation.
"Everyone is trying to be on their best behavior in front of their new King. No room for actually stimulating conversation." Rhae laughed. "A few others? Well done." She said with an approving nod. "Lord Blackwood is betrothed, I do know that. To a lady of House Bracken. An attempt to douse the never ending tensions between the two households I believe. We have yet to see if it will actually do the trick." Ever the gossip, she continued. "Which Lord Redwyne. I know the one, Lord Garland, was set to be married to Lady Jeyne Hightower until the King in the North presented his son Richard into the marriage people. Her father, Lord Hightower, a retched man if you ask me, dissolved the arrangement and tossed his daughter to the wolves. An attempt to climb the ladder of social hierarchy I suppose."
"i noticed," daenys responded with a laugh, "i enjoy dancing," she shrugged, unsure what else there was to say. "the last i checked, a betrothal doesn't mean you can't dance with someone," she paused, "he was quite a gentleman," she made a point of adding. "that is the one," she smiled, though it quickly disappeared at the mention of lord hightower. "that's absolutely dreadful," she whispered, "poor lady hightower."
Who: @atychiphobiias - Daenys Targaryen Where: The Coronation Festivities
"Cousin." Rhae smiled and excused herself from a conversation with some rather boring Lords and made her way over to Daenys. "You appeared at the perfect moment. They were continuing to drone on and on and I was beginning to fall asleep with my eyes open while standing up." She joked, linking arms with the other blonde. "Tell me, how are you enjoying the festivities? Have you danced with anyone worthwhile?" The princess gave her a playful smile.
"cousin," daenys returned the other's greeting with a wide smile. it was a tad too formal for her liking, but given the current setting she could understand rhae's use of a formal greeting. "tell me about it," she sighed, "i haven't had this many boring conversations, well, ever," she giggled, "lord redwyne, lord blackwood," she paused, "a few others."
Willem did not know much of Dorne. It was far from Pinkmaiden and the Riverlands, and he had never had any reason to travel there. So the chance to get to meet one of the people of Dorne was an exciting opportunity. One that he did not want to waste, approaching the lady of House Dayne, he gave a bow, and smiled.
"Lady Dayne, it is a pleasure. I am Willem of House Piper. I have only heard tales of the exploits of House Dayne, but all of them good. Though I do not know if I would be able to handle the heat of Dorne myself."
@atychiphobiias
devika was down right tired of engaging in what amounted to meaningless conversations. and she'd never cared about meeting anyone new. still, she knew to smile as lord piper introduced himself. she could almost hear her mother's voice telling her to be friendly. "it's pleasure to meet you lord piper," she smiled, "i can neither confirm or deny anything you might have heard," she paused, a mischievous grin appearing across her face, "but they are mostly true," this earned a laugh. "dorne is not for the faint of heart," she smiled, "the heat is quite intense."
Once he was told that Theodoric would be honored to accompany him, Orryn allowed himself to smile ever so slightly, before his hand found the Redwyne's. Guiding him through the crowded Great Hall. He had spent a lot of time in the Red Keep, he knew it very well, and quickly whisked the other away to a more private balcony that he had always enjoyed. It over looked the Blackwater, where shipyards were. He had always liked watching the ships be built there, now though you could see the flickers of lamps lighting the docks, few people were out and about at this hour. He wet his lips, eyes scanning over the other, Orryn looked around making sure they were alone, before he wrapped his arms around Dory in a hug.
"Thank you....for coming. These past few days have been hard....seeing your face in the crowd....it has been reassuring." Releasing Theodoric, his hand went to lightly brush his hair. "Your night has been good yes? Do I need to make sure anyone has an awful time at this coronation for bothering you?" Orryn was mostly joking about that. "Do you want to sneak out into the city? Or do you think we'd be missed?"
despite how right it felt to hold orryn's hand, dory couldn't help but bite down on his lip as his boyfriend led him through the great hall. the thought of someone seeing them weighed too heavily on him. a part of him knew there was no need to worry - it could easily be explained away as not wanting to be separated in the crowd but it did little to quell his worries.
still, he couldn't help but melt into the other's embrace the second they were alone - a wide smile already spread across his face. "of course," he whispered, it felt too weird to say you're welcome, given the circumstances. starting trouble was just about the last thing orryn needed - but dory couldn't help but laugh as he heard the others offer. "no, no, everyone has been wonderful," he assured the other male. "i don't think anyone will miss me," he laughed, "i'd love to see the city."
Daeron was making his way through the garden, he was thinking as alone as he could be, he was trying to figure a way out of this mess that he now found himself inheriting with his soon to be coronation. It felt too close to everything, but he knew the realm needed stability now more than ever before. Hearing his cousin's voice, he chuckled to himself. Finding the first apple he had one of his Kingsguard hold onto it for him.
"Allow me to help with that Daenys." Reaching up once he was close enough, he plucked the apple, offering it to her, before quickly pulling it away when she reached for it, biting into it, before once again offering it. "I hope you don't mind cousin." Speaking he was trying not to laugh, and still had apple in his mouth, "I was hungry."
"thank you, cousin," daenys smiled as she stepped backwards to give daeron more room to reach for the fruit. in case her smile didn't say enough, she was quite grateful for his help. she opened her mouth to say thank you once more as she reached for the apple only to gasp loudly as he took a bite. "no thank you, i would like one without a bite missing," she informed him, unable to hold back her laughter. "or a few, if you don't mind."
"lord lannister," lorence began anew, his voice taking on a more determined undertone. the ambience of the red keep, with its austere stone walls adorned with draping banners of different houses, lent a palpable gravity to his words. "i must admit we have not had ample opportunity to converse at length, beyond formalities."
subtle as a soft melody carried on an evening breeze, he steered the conversation towards the path he wished to tread. he was playing the dance of diplomacy, where the rhythm was set by the echoing words, and each beat hinted at more significant meanings. it was a dance he was not overly familiar with, but with the expectations of his father starting to grow wider, a simple meal could open doors to understanding, alliances, perhaps more.
"in this light, i thought it might be fitting to extend an invitation for us to dine," lorence offered, his gaze steady on steffon, reflecting the sincerity behind his words. the surrounding tapestries and gold leafed motifs seemed to fade into obscurity as he focused on the lord before him. "a private gathering, where the clamor of court can be set aside, and we can engage in more personal discourse, between our houses."
"ah yes," steffon paused momentarily, his brow briefly furrowed as he stopped to consider any possible angles the younger male might have. "i must apologize for that," not that he really cared, but it was the polite thing to do, "i have been horribly busy," the truth. he'd lost track of how many nobles he'd had to entertain, holding the same conversation over and over tended to do that. "a wonderful idea," he forced a smile to go along with his response, "when do you suggest we have this dinner?"
She had undoubtedly spent too much time in the gardens since her arrival in King's Landing, but it was the area that reminded her the most of home. Of course, it paled in comparison to the splendor of Highgarden. It was a wonderful surprise to happen to run into someone of the reach. There had been so many lords and ladies in attendance that she hadn't seen a recognizable face in a long time. "I promise," she said, a teasing smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Though I doubt you're the only one," she continued.
"thank you," theodoric returned her smile as he slowly finished plucking the rose, carefully removing its' thrones before turning to offer it to ceryse. "for you, my lady," he smiled, "let's hope. i don't think i'd fair well in a dungeon," he laughed. though he highly doubted such offense would warrant that harsh of a punishment.
Tytos smiled at his brother, suppressing a laugh. "I have been having a lovely evening, thank you for asking, brother." When he mentioned that he hoped no Waynwoods had been offended he shook his head a little. "Oh, no, no I was asking if you had done the offending. I haven't seen a Waynwood all night. I did however, see several Marbrands. They wanted to me to send well regards to you." When he was threatened to be locked in their rooms, he frowned. "Come now, that wouldn't be very brotherly of you, now would it? Besides you should know by now, father tried that many times on me, and I always found my way out, and when have you ever known me to watch waht I say? I think the Maesters regret helping me develop the power of speech."
he hadn't asked, nor did he particularly care how tytos' evening was going - but steffon made the decision NOT to point that out. the last thing he wanted to do was give his brother a reason to act out, not that he ever seemed to need one. "you know damn well, i haven't offended anyone," his voice lowered, "unlike our father, i'm familiar with most of your tricks," he continued, this time his words were meant to serve as a warning.
standing within a large window overlooking blackwater bay, dark hues flickered over her shoulder at the greeting ( for once, the smile that blossoms on the eldest martell's face is genuine, rather than the mask she offers to most ). "lady dayne," she breaths in greeting, turning from her view to take in the woman entirely. "it certainly does, doesn't it? i've heard more than a fair share of lords and ladies alike complain of the heat this morning." as if they were delicate snow melting before a warm summer sun. "how poorly most would fair in dorne," a thought that admittedly brought her joy, given the princess wanted little to do with most north of their borders.
there is a moment of pause before she's offering out her arm. "walk with me? i hear they claim their gardens a masterpiece and i hope to hear how you and the others are fairing within the capital. i fear few are offering me their true opinions on the matter, given my position."
"they wouldn't last an hour in dorne," devika responded with a laugh,it was an exaggeration, but it rang somewhat true. she couldn't picture any of the fair weather lords and ladies surviving in dorne, especially the northerners.
"gladly," she smiled, "you know me, i always tell the truth," another lie, but a convincing one. and in this situation, it was closer to the truth. she wouldn't like to sarella, not without a damn good reason.
"More tea, your grace?" her maid asked, falling on the deaf ears of the princess. Her mind was elsewhere as it always seemed to be as of late. She heard the commotion from her place on the terrace taking afternoon tea and walked over. "Oh Daenys, don't bother." Elenei answered dismissively, concealing the fact that she would be of no real use in the situation. The two girls had always been of the same height. Any attempt would only likely end in embarrassment.
"My maid has just finished setting out tea and pastries. There's plenty for two." The Red Keep was the most public place in the Seven Kingdoms. Elenei quickly learned to always set out enough for unexpected guests. Her cousin, especially, would never be unwelcome at her table. " Our baker makes the best applecakes. You will join me, yes?
although a frown did momentarily cross daenys' face as elenei's comment reached her ears, it was gone by the time she turned to face her cousin. she'd save the fruit picking for later. "i would love to," she smiled, as she smoothed out her skirt before taking her seat. "i guess i'll have to see for myself," she smiled, as she leaned forward to pick up a pastry.

"oh rats," daenys couldn't help but sigh as the apple she'd been trying to pick fell to the ground, quickly rolling out of sight. were she in a better mood, she probably would've chased after it - but these days she hadn't felt like doing much of anything. still, she sat her sight on another piece of fruit, standing on her tiptoes as she tried and failed to grasp it. "can someone give me a hand?" she raised her voice only slightly, hoping that someone would overhear and come to her rescue. these days the gardens were seemingly packed.

Tytos had always excelled in social situations, he enjoyed balls and feasts. He enjoyed them less than jousts and melees, but still enough that he would never complain about actually having to go to such an event. He was finishing a conversation with a lord of the Reach when he saw his brother Steffon. Smile on his face from cheek to cheek he finished his drink before slowly approaching him.
"Lord Lannister, are you enjoying yourself? Tell me, how much trouble have you landed us in since we dispersed into the crowd? Are we going to have to invade the Vale within a fortnight because of an offended Waynwood?" He chuckled a little, lightly smacking his brother's shoulder. "I think I've personally been rather charming all night, but I think I am about ready to go find a Hightower to climb." He mentioned the last part with a mischievous smirk on his face. Maybe he was being slightly bolder in his brother's presence because of the wine......but Tytos didn't care what his brother thought about his comments in the moment.
@atychiphobiias
"lord lannister," steffon's brow furrowed at his brother's peculiar choice of greeting, though he didn't hesitate to use the same greeting in return. he opted to listen to all of what tytos had to say before even attempting a replying, though he quickly claim to regret the decision. "why do i get the feeling i should be asking you the same question?" he responded, this time with his eyebrow arched. "i sure hope no waynwoods have been offended," his voice lowered as he leaned closer to tytos. "do watch what you're saying, brother," he cautioned, "or you might find yourself confined to our quarters." a threat that steffon would make sure to honor.
