SCAR: Hold the phone, WHAT??
SCAR: I wanna say took you long enough, but even I've given up hope you'll get back together, wow.
SCAR: Also, in the bathroom of a bar? I bet there were fireworks.
AUBREY: I know!!!
AUBREY: There was definitely something once I stopped thinking about all of the gross germs surrounding us.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Friday night?
AUBREY: Sure.
AUBREY & SCAR
AUBREY: Ryan and I had sex.
AUBREY: In the bathroom.
AUBREY: At a bar.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Okay. So, dinner this week?
AUBREY: Sure.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Then you know you’ve got nothing to worry about.
AUBREY: Okay.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Of course I do.
RYAN: Do you trust me?
AUBREY: Yes.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: I don’t want her that way. I want there to be an us again - as in you and me.
RYAN: She’s just got nobody and I guess she deserves it in a way but I don’t know. I feel bad. She meant something to me once.
AUBREY: You do?
AUBREY: I get it. But I’m not happy about it.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Yeah kinda surprised myself. It doesn’t change anything with us though.
AUBREY: It can, if you want it to. Not like we were really an us again, anyway.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Siobhan’s back
AUBREY: There’s the other shoe.
AUBREY: Ha. Of course she is.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: I can’t just text you?
AUBREY: You can, but there’s usually a reason for it. Plus you’re acting weird.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Yeah, you're really missing out here.
AUBREY: Alright, what’s up?
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Just hanging at the firehouse. Cruz cooked again and it tastes like cardboard smothered in hot sauce.
AUBREY: Mmmmm, delicious.
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: How's it going?
AUBREY: Not bad. At the pool. You?
RYAN & AUBREY
RYAN: Hey there.
AUBREY: Hi there.
AUBREY & RYAN
RYAN: He watched in awe as she left him with that one comment and made her way to the bathroom, wondering if she was giving him some sort of signal that she wanted him to join her. If she wasn't, things were about to get real embarrassing.
Taking a long swig of his drink, Ryan glanced over his shoulder before making his way over to the bathroom to see whether or not he'd read that exchange right.
AUBREY: Hearing someone outside the door, Aubrey bit down on her lip and opened the door just enough to peek through the crack and confirm it was him. When she was satisfied that it was, her hand dipped out between the open space and she took hold of his shirt, tugging him towards her. It didn't take long for her lips to crash against his, and suddenly, it was as though she were transported back to a time she missed more than she thought possible.
AUBREY & RYAN
RYAN: There was a tension between them that he knew she felt, too. Hell, every single person in the bar must have felt it. It was a strange feeling but it was as though Ryan was returning to his old self - to the person he liked the most, and he could only ever be that person when he was around Aubrey this way.
They'd taken some time apart, they'd both been through their fair share of shit. Maybe now it was time that things would start falling back into their proper place?
"80-20, huh?" Ryan asked, his voice low. "Those are some pretty solid odds. What do you think about that?"
AUBREY: “I think we should put it to the test and see for ourselves,” Aubrey stated boldly. Her hand brought her beer to her lips and took a few gulps before setting it back down. Grabbing her bag, she slid it onto her shoulder and then stood. Her hand ran across the back of his neck as she moved away from their table and towards the bathroom. Someone may have thought it was overly suggestive of her, but she rarely ever made a move like this, and something about today made Aubrey feel a little more reckless. At the last moment, Aubrey turned back to look at Ryan with a wink. She then pushed open the bathroom door and slipped inside.
AUBREY & RYAN
RYAN: Her eyeroll didn't go unnoticed but instead of commenting on it, Ryan just let a warm smile take over his features. It was the subtle little things that he'd always admired about Aubrey - the eye rolls, the raised eyebrow whenever he said something that was pushing his luck, the way she bit her lip when they were in situations that were maybe pushing their friendship boundaries a little too much.
Ryan took her words to mean that she had spent the rest of her day worrying about him, though he chose not to address it. He knew all too well about just how much she worried when it came to him.
Managing a smirk with a mouthful of beer as Aubrey enlightened him on the rumor going around the firehouse, he placed his drink down and moved in a little closer.
"I did not know this. What are those odds looking like?"
AUBREY: The closeness between them made her heart beat in her chest just a tiny bit more. Their knees grazed against one another, a simple movement but one that left her wanting more. Yearning for more. How long had it been now since they’d last touched as anything more than friends? Since their last kiss? She’d lost count of the days, months, years, unable to believe they’d really been apart that long. They were Ryan and Aubrey, after all, which was why her response came so easily to her.
“80-20,” she told him, her voice sounding much more confident than hopeful. Chances he didn’t agree with her? Zero.
