"I can’t do it anymore!"

            jailbird understood. he understood the pain his brother was going through. the constant running to survive, the pain they received. and now, the unbearable truth that pushed them both back into reality. their journey to the underworld had been long and nearly soul crushing. jailbird rarely slept but when he did, he would be woken by jughead’s attempts to take him away from the nightmares. dreams of dark memorizes that now plagued his mind. now, he was just running on pure adrenaline or whenever he had access to caffeine. 

           they made it to the underworld. getting passed the charon to travel the river styx to the entrance. getting passed cerberus (a.k.a. spot) and finally taking the steps into the massive castle that belonged to their father.  and the answers they seeked didn’t seem like the responses jughead desired and he lost it. leaving the underworld in a huff, jailbird followed. though, after jughead shouted at him at the top of his lungs, jailbird’s mood changed drastically. 

           “you can’t take it anymore? try going to hell and back and live after that. i can barely fucking sleep let alone deal with this shit that still follows us.” jailbird said, throwing his arms up in the air and raising his voice right back at jughead. they were both frustrated, both tired. though neither knew the powers that they possessed that could possibly get them home faster.

he’s glad that the other perks up as soon as he hears his voice. so, the plan in on. he just has to say it to ronnie and betts and they’ll be good to go. ❝normal plan more like it,❞ he likes pop’s, and he likes his friends, this is the perfect chance to talk about shit. ❝great, then, i’ll see you after school.❞

          the way archie seemed to perk up at that fact, he seemed excited. even though this was technically their normal type of double date, archie looked more inclined to organize the whole ordeal than just let things take its course. jughead thought for a second that there was more than just the simple hangout for the night. “yeah, see you.”

there’s a small laugh at his searching while she leans back against the frame of the bed once more. she almost closes her eyes, tired even after she had slept a couple of hours. some part of her body ached, and she was sure, she had a hickie or two on her neck. at his words, she opens her eyes, focusing on his, and sitting up. ❝i think… that’s a good idea,❞ she takes the clothes, gracefully, standing, still covered in the sheet, before quickly dressing up. ❝yeah, i can make some space in my closet, so you can have clothes here,❞ and with that, she comes close, smiling, ❝you can spend the night, anytime, you know that, right?❞

         he turned, giving her a little bit of privacy. it was least he could do, trying to be considerate even though they spent the whole night together. he pulled his shirt on before turning back to her fully clothed. and he smiled, lifting up a hand to stroke her cheek ever so slightly to where his hand fell down to her neck, examining the marks that were already close to purple. that soft smile that once spread his lips turned into a cheeky smirk. “thank you.” he said, giving her forehead a soft kiss. “though, you might want to cover those love bites. who knows how your mother will react to seeing those pasted all over your neck.” and with that, he turned and marched out of her room to the downstairs where the food laid uncooked.

“I said I’m FINE,” Jughead was quick to insist upon the bottle being thrust into his grip. His face was nothing short of a mixture of pain, exhaustion, and irritation. He’d love nothing better than to just find the nearest alleyway and fall asleep there like he used to in the old days before the Camp. Just sleep away the pain and he’d feel better in the morning. Or, at least, that was what Jughead liked to believe but a part of him knew it would still be there when he woke up. IF he woke up. The blood still seeping onto and through his shirt from the open wound showed it wouldn’t heal at the drop of a dime. Sometimes he wished he could just have ONE normal day where all sorts of creatures weren’t chasing after them. But two sons of one of the ‘big three’ was bound to draw attention. 

“Look, I’ll clean it later. How about we just find some place to stay where I can do that. Y’know, somewhere not on the streets where I might get more of an infection?” There had to be some cheap motel around. He didn’t exactly care about the state of a place but he didn’t exactly feel like cleaning a wound out in the open in case someone ‘mortal’ stumbled across the twins.

          of course, being how stubborn both jones twins were, jailbird was going to make the attempt to argue back at the other but, it seemed futile at this point. and, as they were climbing the hill on the side of the road, they were more than likely to see street signs for a motel not too far. he kept the bottle close to him, just incase jughead changed his mind in wanting the godlike liquid to fuel his own energy. though, jailbird knew that jughead wouldn’t take it until it would possibly be too late. 

         while walking in the night, jailbird noticed his brother was starting to trail further and further behind. there wasn’t any words exchanged but, he kept his eye on him. always looking behind him to make sure that jughead was still walking, still trudging. yet, it seemed his brother lost most of his strength along with his blood and jailbird heard a thump from behind him. he swung around and saw jughead on the ground, passed out. and he sighed, walking over and pushing him over to on his back to check the wound that had made him pass out. “you’re stubborn.” jailbird muttered, taking some bandages and quickly patched him up with little success in stopping the bleeding. then jailbird grabbed him. pulling him up so that jughead was being practically carried bridal style. and it was for at least half a mile jailbird carried him until they came close to a motel. even though a hospital would’ve been the better place for the poor boy, jailbird knew that he would hate it there. so, putting jughead down next to the building for a few moments while he ran inside to grab a room. the room wasn’t too expensive but the room only came with one bed. 

         somehow, jailbird had gotten jughead into the room and placed him on the bed. there, he was finally attempting to fix jughead’s wound which seemed more worse than it was hours ago when he was conscious and walking. it took nearly all the supplies that jailbird found inside the room. he used the towels to clean and patch up the wound. and finally, once it was over, he sighed and collapsed in the chair on the other side of the room and fell asleep.

         “seriously. i can’t do this.” this isn’t just a singular truth. it’s multi range of sincerity. she’s been taking steps down to hell ever since the 4th. and she’s been staying strong for the most part ( because she has to ), but now she’s isn’t so sure. she feels like a shell of a person, completely dented, utterly shattered, all that teenage angst. with the additions of syrup and death and fire. in that order. her weather tonight as been unruly but all storms come to a clear. and she’s in the still of that aftermath. her sobs become cries. her cries because sniffling. and then there’s nothing. it’s been awhile since she’s cried that much — jason’s death discovery being the last time she drained that much salt and fluid. she takes her time resting on jughead, though. she’ll milk this moment for all it’s got; even in her tipsy state she knows she needs this. a squeeze warns her pull away but there’s not warning when she leans forward and kisses him on the lips. but her body’s having trouble standing the more she stands and the more alcohol soaks into her bloodstream. she likely wont make it much longer without passing out. 

        A kiss pressed to his lips had set alarms off in his mind. Eyes widened and a complete sense of surprise, Jughead pulled away in a rather quick fashion with the addition of scooting a bit away. And he stared at her, curious eyes as her own mind was taken by the alcohol. Her body fell to his, eyes closed this time, and her head lip on his lap. His own stiffened by the sudden woman on his person. If it were up to him, he’d leave her there behind Pop’s to fend for herself but, the voice of Betty, his new conscious, broke his thoughts. She would be mad over the kiss (of course he had to tell her) but she’d be even angrier if she knew he left Cheryl there. There was also the possibility of her death coming if he left her limp body to the vultures, human and the birds. So, after a long sigh, he moved her into his arms---bridal style---and stood. It took some effort and he exhaled heavily once he was actually standing. He looked at her for a moment before giving a stone face and beginning the long truck to the trailer that belonged to his father. Would his father mind the sudden female dressed in rather expensive clothing sleeping on the bed of the trailer? Hopefully not, considering that his father was in jail for multiple offenses. His father didn’t have to know.

before she’d gotten back to riverdale, jellybean had sulked about leaving without her brother.  pink floyd always screeched from the room she was in,  nose upturned when she was questioned on her day.  she didn’t hate toledo,  but it wasn’t the same without jughead ( or their dad,  but he was an afterthought. )  truthfully,  she just wanted her brother whether it was at their home or at their grandparents.  but there was a small part of her ecstatic to be back where she belongs,  a town she knew like the back of her hand with people she’d known since birth.

“dad said you were working on a story,” she announces,  prancing to his side.  jellybean can recall the times jughead has retold her stories whenever she couldn’t sleep;  he was good and she knew how much he liked creating the tales.  “will you tell me about it?”  she inquires pleasantly.  their dad hadn’t given her any information about and she was curious.

         It was a true surprise when little Miss Jellybean Jones returned back to Riverdale with the questions of his novel is progress. There was a smile that pressed to his lips as he saw his little sister jumping from the car and ran over to him with open arms. A big hug as he greeted his sister, though wondering what had caused the two women to take the venture back down to the dangerous streets of Riverdale. As the hug subsided and she jumped to his side, her voice perking up with questions flying. 

        “I think my novel is a little too intense for you, JB.” He said, ruffling her hair and giving her a look. “Now, why don’t you tell me of the adventures you had in Tordelo. I bet your stories are getting better. Have you been practicing?”

❝so, pop’s after school? with the girls?❞ he’s caught up with jughead in the hallway, he knows he’ll say yes. after everything, the diner is their place now, more than anything else. and he gets to hang out with both of his best friends, and the girl that he likes. it’s a good place. and the food isn’t that bad at all. ❝sound like a plan?❞

         Walking through the halls, Jughead normally kept his head away from the preying eyes of the jocks that wanted to take their frustration out on him. But, the minute he heard Archie’s voice, his head perked up to look at the familiar smiling face of his good friend. “It’s as much of a plan as it could be. A normal sized plan. But yeah sure, I'm up for it.”

         Right, it seemed Alice’s tactics were to go through teenagers to gain the information she wanted for her articles. Though, when thinking it over, he knew she wouldn’t take no for an answer. She would just keep trying. And for a moment, he thought he was describing Betty. A sigh escaped his lips. “I’m not going to interrogate her like you did at dinner to my father but, if anything comes up. I’ll make a note of it.”
